Bad Luck turns into a Good Day of Fishing

  • I haven't been able to fish much lately because of work and moving, but Jess and I managed to carve out a day to go fishing this past weekend on Kerr Lake. I was really excited to try out my new Garmin GPSMap fishfinder, which has higher resolution that my previous EchoMap unit and allows me to record video directly to my phone without glare.
However, as luck would have it, not only did I manage to forget my fish grips (which I use to wrangle the catfish and weigh them), but my brand new fishfinder decided that it wasn't going to work for the trip (despite working fine less that 24 hours earlier). I was bummed about this, but was going to try to make the best of the situation regardless.
Although I didn't so much as get a nibble the first two hours, eventually, I drifted over the right spot and ended up with some nice fish, including a few surprises. Jess managed to land a nice fish, too!

Those rod holders look sweet, always a struggle to pull the rod out of mine when a big fish hits.

They're Scotty Orca series rod holders (#400)... they take a little getting used to, but they're generally a lot easier to use than a standard rod holder when a big fish hits.
