BMW M Hybrid V8 LMDh preparing its debut in the 2024 WEC Hypercar Class at Imola Circuit!

- In the last few days Team WRT was at Imola Circuit to continue their testing with the BMW M Hybrid V8 LMDh ahead of the 2024 season debut, during which the Italian track will host a round of the FIA WEC (World Endurance Championship). The BMW prototype has already completed an entire IMSA season this year with BMW Team RLL but from 2024 the car will be fielded in both major endurance championships.
I was at the first day, out of two, of testing characterized by wet track conditions which significantly improved in the afternoon.
The M Hybrid V8 has been developed under the "Le Mans Daytona h" (LMDh) regulations which allows it to be fielded alongside Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) entries in the Hypercar class of the FIA WEC or in the GTP class of the IMSA SportsCar Championship. Compared to Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) rule set, in which there's much more freedom in designing the car, LMDh teams are forced to rely on one of the 4 chassis manufacturers chosen by ACO and IMSA (Dallara, Ligier, Multimatic and Oreca) in order to have a base from which to build their own vehicle. BMW has chosen Dallara as their chassis supplier.
The M Hybrid V8's engine is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, called P66/3, which is a development of the engine found in the 2017-2018 BMW M4 DTM, paired with the standardised hybrid unit.

@@19Bozzy92as a diehard fan of Nijigasaki and FIAWEC, WEC 2024 is absolute must watch for sure. Despite the class races is down from 3 to just 2, its still amazing tho.

They really make sure people can see the kidney grille, even at night
Love the kidney grille on the BMW hypercar. When I first saw the huge grill on the latest M4, I hated it. Over the years it has grown on me, and now I think the big grille looks awesome especially on the wider GT3 M4. It has become one of my favorite cars

Wtf is wrong with the people complaining about the sound? It sounds nice, also i dont get why they complain about the design, imo this car looks nice, this and the M4 GT3 are the only cars that look cool with the big grill
You like it! But those who don't like it also have the right to say so! Personally, I like it when brands develop engines that have a unique sound! That makes you vibrate with every passage! Most people who come to Le Mans for the first time and neophytes always prefer the cars that make the most beautiful noise! This one sounds like any LMP2 car with Gibson V8! Basically, it's better than electric, but it's nothing exceptional!

those aren't kidneys smh. the e30 m3 had kidneys with an extended width grille. they should have tried that instead. this is just the horrific 7 series grille on a lmdh car. i hope it at least drives well because every cad designer at bmw has lost their mind

Great Video Bozzy! The BMW is easily the best looking car out of the LMDh bunch, its recognisable from every angle and the kidney grills are incorporated beautifully! Its also absolutely crazy to think that this and the caddy are built on the very same Chassis! 😮 Very excited to see what this car can do in the hands of an outfit as professional as WRT and see if it can give the LMH Juggernauts of Ferrari and Toyota a run for their money!

The rules allow to slap a V12 if you want, but most manufacturers prefer smaller turbo engines for efficiency.

a decent vent geometry gives airflow. they should have used the m1 style or e30 m3 or csl style. this is garbage and looks stupid. we could have just as much frontal airflow without ugly lines.

These a barrier between them, and that's not a likely place for a car to have a high speed crash anyway.
@@still_gunsEnd of a short straight, with a collision the barrier deforms, they need to put a tires-wall, for a FIA Grade 1 track it's problematic, 10 years ago at Tertre Rouge in Le Mans there was a driver who died like that and they put a tire-wall on the place.

I wish BMW luck. If only those modern race cars wouldn't be ugly a. f.... Just compare those LMDh or LMDHi cars to an 80's group C car (956 or 962 Porsche, Jaguars, Sauber-Mercedes) or GTP car. Yeah they are faster. But the apperance and the engine sounds ...
