- The KABAR Combat Kukri just came in not too long ago, and I think I am going to love it!
This video is a tabletop review as I lay it alongside some other large knives, Kukri, and misc blades just to showcase them in comparison.
It has an eight inch 1095 blade, and is less than a pound.
Paper shaving sharp out of the box, in a weight forward Kukri design! This ought to be a great chopper!
The nylon sheath is basically the same as the Machax (BK4) and seems fine for the blade.
I am not one to replace a sheath unless I see a need, and I see no need for sheath replacement here.
The sheath can be utilized as a fixed one, with leg tie, or as a dangler. It has two snaps, though only one is required to secure the blade.
Wifey wants new shoes now. Man o man.
Doggin on 1 of the best sheath designed ever
Just got mine! Nice review.
My tailcap has the coldness of metal...
Say Heah Steven, Infact I'm surfing the Tube because we're going out again soon. I decided to take my Himalayan Imports M-43 and I'm pairing it off with my Bokor Magnum Series Vox 2011 Collection which I think is a real Retro looking knife and for finer tasks I'm bringing my Vintage Myerchin Pocket Knife with the Marlin Spike great for untangling paracoard, I didn't realize or bought then to match eachother. ut they all match eachother. I also have a Cold Steel Kukuri Plus in O1 which is real good it has a thicker tang so I trust the strenght. I'm also getting the BK-21 can wait. Thanx Bro.
I don't know what knife ka-bar intended for that little sheath, but on the becker sheaths, a BK13 Remora fits in that spot. The product page on ka-bar's website doesn't mention the little piggyback sheath, go figure.
I agree with you about the Machax, btw. It doesn't get the attention it deserves. Most of the attention goes to the BK9.
that center pouch is for the ka - bar becker Remora knife . a very nice knife.
You are right, dano727, I scratched it to find out and sure enough...steel! :)
I think a stick tang is better since you have some material between the steel and your hand to dampen impacts. This would only matter if a person actually uses the knife, which is why so many knives in developing nations utilize the stick tang.
I'm starting to like that style of Kukri by Kabar ,,,the name Combat is a Kabar kick back to the knife I would guess,,,Take Care
That little area is for one of kabars made in China skeleton knives that come with all the 'zombie' branded line. I think they are all the same sheath.
Those are not Twenty Dollar now in 2021 now dayz , glad I got one back in the
BudK Dayz , I had my work cut out for me sharpening it. The Ka Bab is good but I got the BK21 by Ka Bar and its a Becker blade with a handle like Becker you have.
Bk21 full Becker tang is where it’s at
Yup you got that correct pal. That's how come I want another one and a BK 9 with some upgraded scales.
I like it, but I would be leary of the rat tail, especially with all the chopping. It will be very interesting as you use it to see how it holds up. Thanks a ton for showing it to us.
***** I tried it with some food today, and hopefully this weekend I can beat it outside...and beat it ;)
+Larry Roberts, yes...I'll be testing and also using this some more once the weather here cools a bit.
Rat tails, or stick tangs don't scare me a whole lot, as I have never had one actually break on me (have you?) but of course they are not as strong and dependable as the same quality of steel and knife would be as a full tang. That point where the tang and blade meets is a weak point where pressure and impact are concerned. Still, it is steel. We'll see!
No, I have never had one break on me, but the only rat tail I have ever had was a mora. I use my mora pretty nicely so I've never had a problem. I just figured a full tang would be stronger. I'll be following your progress.
On a traditional kukuri the band in the middle of the handle acts in the same way a hand guard does in the way that it keeps your hand from sliding up the blade when stabbing.
The butt cap is 1095. Just like on a 1217, etc..
Ooops I stand corrected it is 1095 CroVan I'm sorry I was wrong.
+paulie 4x It's 1095 "CroVan" but my knife making friends tell me that in use, there really is little exhibited difference between the two types of steel. The best that I can understand, the difference is much like a stew that has "just enough" salt, only the cook knows for sure and the rest just guess according to their own suited tastes ;)
Well its the same steel as my Vintage Cold Steel CarbonV Knives. and those hold a great edge and are tough. Infact I have a S.R.K. (2) Recon Scout's one I use and the other is still virgin and it still has the red tape warning on it, I guess that's it's cherry heh heh heh, WoW K ' m sorry for that one. But yeah the CarbonV was great and now my Becker's and some Ka-Bar use it too. A long time ago more used it the generic name was 0170-6C today it's called 1095 CroVan. This is where I get my info, You can download the Steel Knife Composition at Google Plus and it's free or find it on this website, It's awesome stuff. I don't know how Ethan did it but it's good steel.
Oops the website is. zknives.com. enjoy !!!
Say Heah my Friend but that Ka-Bar Kukuri is 1085 not the same as the 1095 CroVan ?
Its 1095.
Just like their other combat knives.
The Kukri machete made in Taiwan is 1085.
"click off". I like that. LOL
Like it a lot but would be better with a full tang rather than the classic kabar "stick full tang".
It a combat Kukri for soldiers mostly, that's how come its small and light weight.
Someone had mentioned that they did not like the sheath design and I think they're completely stupid I think their sheet design for the combat cookery is beautiful next to perfect
Plz mention the back sheath..
Jeez people
Stick Tang.
+Texas Outdoors, yes it is a stick/rat tang, much like the traditional military KA-BAR.
I'll be doing some fun testing and using this later as the weather cools, and I'll make sure that along with other testing, I at least film a hard blade test as well.
I find out that the pommel is indeed metal, and NOT wood.
