He lost mobility on his right hand due to the severity of the slashes, lost a lot of blood, and took 8 months to recover but not completely, he's got lots of scars and during a couple of months he looked so pale because of the blood he lost.

This is why defensive melee is not for everyone. In order actually defend yourselves close quarter. You have to be expert at martial arts or some technique. Don't ever go melee. Melee is very grueling. I always go with pepper spray. Eventually I am going to get a pistol at some point. If you want to go with melee self defense. The best bet to use is a portable arm shield where you can block the knife and hit your attacker away with it or use a long metal stick. A collapsible baton is way too short as its not always legal everywhere.

I have a background in private security and korean martial arts. So in general you want to maintain at least 7 meters (20ft) between yourself and someone with any melee weapon, particularly edged weapons as they classify as lethal on the use of force continuum. Now that is a minimum distance because that is on average the amount of ground an attacker can cover in the time it takes the brain to process and respond to an incoming attack from an empty hand position. If you have a firearm and are appropriately licensed and trained, that would be the go to, as you're matching lethal force with lethal force. Second best option is to GTFO. Unless you're kitted up to protect against stab and slash attacks, you're going to get seriously fucked up, however, if someone does come at you with a knife, you're much better off taking a cut to the forearm than the chest. Even just having on cut resistant gloves makes a difference. I'm saying that from the perspective of someone who has to respond to and control a situation and doesn't have the option to just run. Honestly for me syringes are worse than a knife. Have had a few junkies pull used fits before and when you know they're +hepc and that a hypodermic needle will go through most cut resist shit, it can be a little confronting.

They were dedecting points pers slash or swipe, but honestly if we go off of lethality he manages to avoid and disarm the guy only receiving wounds in most trials that were successful I'd consider minor at best like these in the grand scheme of things. However getting slashed period only shows practicing this stuff only increases chance of survival and negation of injury, not really guarentees it.

Even this doesn't do it justice. All that BJJ, Kav Magra, Karate, and whatever tacticool mall ninja training you have, is nothing more than MUSCLE MEMORY, for your body to react IF a split second moment presents itself, that you COULD (poorly) do one of the things you're taught in a dojo. A real knife attack doesn't unfold like a one-step test to get your next belt. Even in this video, the knife wielder isn't actually trying to hurt the guy he's attacking, so it's still less violent than real life.
Real life isn't the the dojo, RUclips, or the movies. You WILL get cut, and possibly stabbed, probably multiple times. If you don't know and accept that going in, you're going to have to fight against your own fear and panic when it happens, as well as fighting the bad guy. And you have to know that the move associated with the muscle memory you trained may or may not present itself, and when it does, it might be so fast and fleeting that you miss it, and don't realize it until the moment's gone. Now you have to stay in the fight, keep your head, and wait for the next opportunity, while trying minimize the damage you are going to take in the meantime. Or you have to know you're about to take some serious damage and press the attack, through those injuries, hoping to end the fight before those injuries get numerous enough, or are serious enough to kill you.

The thing about martial arts is yes against a knife you will be cut. It also depends on how good you are but you’re chances of surviving are a lot higher because you are training and preparing yourself to be ready to subdue your opponent that’s more realistic then thinking you’re just going out destroy anyone who crosses your path that’s bullshit. Martial arts doesn’t make you invincible it trains you to be aware!

I can’t tell you that I’ve been in a few knife fights (cough). But if I had been I would tell you that first: you don’t want to be. Even if you both have one you are going to get fugged up. If it’s just a shivv then you have a better chance of survival but blades are tough man. Example the man on the new recently that got knife attacked on the train in New York. He can't just jump off the train. Thats when these very risky techniques come in and could have possibly saved him.

Slasher movies make stabbing and cutting look easy. Unless they have a very, very sharp blade, swinging it and hitting you will not cut you, and you have to stab with a lot of force to penetrate. Someone with a medical scalpel could swing on you and slash like a 90s horror film, but a chefs knife or even a razor utility knife doesnt just cut flesh like a "hot knife to butter" as they say.

Instructor 1) "Do this and you'll be safe from anyone with a knife.
Instructor 2) first off start with palms facing (as much as you can) you're gonna get cut up until you attack the arm with the knife. When you attack it be committed despite your lacerations, and break it.
Call 911, because he has a broken arm, maybe missing teeth? You though, you're bleeding out like stuck pig and might have meat hanging off you.

Learn how to fight and defend yourself in the right. You can learn how to box and defend yourself at home by training. And do weight training. Everyone should learn how to defend themselves. But never attack only defend. And if someone attacks you beat them up and win. But if someone has a gun you can't just punch them you have to be smart. Know how to win and think things through to the end. Master attacking with all weapons and self defense against weapons as well. And don't even take little crap from no one underhanded tactics. Defend yourself right away in the moment. Strategy is winning and plan before taking action so think things through. Read strategy books, master strategy, play chess, and know your enemy inside out how he thinks, and win in your mind. Strategy most important skill for everything so Master this young and read as much books as you can most important skill more than math and anything.
