Knowing each of the guest vocalists really helps. I like each of them in their own bands, but to get them altogether was a real treat. I think because you are not familiar with them it would probably hinder your overall enjoyment. For me, seeing and hearing them altogether made this a really enjoyable song. Feuerschwanz is a folk metal band, as is Saltatio Mortis, and they routinely use instruments like the Hurdy Gurdy and the Bagpipes in their music, which is something I really like. In this one they used an electric Hurdy Gurdy instead of an acoustic one. Just love the epic feel of this song, but I understand your position, would have been a 9.1 from me, but we all have our own likes and dislikes, that's why music is always subjective. If you want to hear Feuerschwanz themselves then try "Momento Mori" or "Ding" (with Melissa Bonny as the only guest singer) and if you would like to hear Saltatio Mortis then listen to "Loki" or "My Mother Told Me"

The two dancers in the video fighting with weapons are part of the band they just dance onstage.
The last two Feuerschwanz albums they had two discs. The first disc was original music and the second disc had seven covers each picked by one of the members of the band.
This song was picked by guitarist Hans Platz.
Feuerschwanz is: Hauptmann Feuerschwanz (Vocals and Acoustic Guitar)
    Stephanie Pracht (Violin and Hurd-Gurdy)
    Hans Platz (Electric Guitar)
Ben Metzner (Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Flutes, Whistles, Bagpipes)
    Jan Jamaszk (Bass)
    Rolf Hering (Drums)
For original songs by them I would recommend Metfest, Das Elfte Gebot, Ultima Nocte or Untot im Drachenboot.

Lead Vocalists from Feuerschwanz are Ben Metzner (the very first singer) and the knight (Hauptmann Feuerschwanz).
Melissa is normally in the Band Ad Infinitum (i recommend their song Sparza). Thomas Winkler is the ex Vocalist of Gloryhammer (the guy in the green Armor).
And at the end Alea from Saltatio Mortis is the guy with the beautiful beard.
All people from Germany or Switzerland (Melissa and Thomas)

That dude with the eye-paint isn't a singer as his main job. You know what he makes his living with? He's a Notary^^ Imagine having some important matter and you google your notary and find a dude running around castles dressed as a knight...
Also the singer from Saltatio Mortis (blonde dude) was ill when they filmed, so all his stuff was shot like a week later.

David, what you have seen IS a collaboration initiated by Napalm Records to feature several artists they have signed. It's like the "last song" of a Medieval Metal Festival, when band members from the day are put together and appear on stage again for that very last song. Feuerschwanz, Saltatio Mortis (both bands are from Germany), they have also appeared in the line up of the biggest Metal event in Europe. You know it very well, I'm talking about ... WACKEN (Remember - Nightwish GLS and many more). You remember? There a lot of other great bands playing that kind of metal using old instruments and they are reputated well in Europe.
I get your point, that you feel too much of vocal protagonists in this video involved. All of what you heard is reproducible also live, they have the skills to do that high ranges. You may like it or not. For me it's pretty okay and I would also go with your score, perhaps a little higher from the perspective that I like this style of medieval appearances in general.
By the way Melissa Bonny can also growl. Probably you may check her out. Interesting to see that you got in touch with this genre of music and your route to another complete different experience of music and performance becomes shorter and shorter.😀 What I'm talking about is my recommendation of the first "Metal Music" made in human history. Check out the Band Heilung and their live performance of "In Majdian", which probably will take off your socks. Take Mrs.Heretic with you on this journey!

The vocalists are the following (in the order of their appearance):
    Feuerschwanz
Prinz R. Hodenherz III (Ben Metzner)
    Hauptmann Feuerschwanz (Peter Henrici)
    Guest vocalists:
Melissa Bonny (Ad Infinitum, Dark Side of the Moon)
Jörg Roth aka Alea der Bescheidene (vocalist of Saltatio Mortis)
Thomas Winkler aka Angus McFife (former Gloryhammer vocalist)

the fact, that you don´t know the original song and its meaning, it is hard to catch the feeling a Manowarrior like me gets when listening to this. For your own, just watch that original video of Manowar and you will understand what i mean.
More Feuerschwanz would be nice too, but it is a german band, and most if not all own songs are in german.
danke java devil :) eventuell noch "memento mori" oder "untot im drachenboot" hinterher ? =) damit David lernt was Feuerschwanz wirklich ist ?

Hello David Heretic, the rating is totally fine or should I say really good ;) I understand that I confused you a bit if you don't know any of the singers and also not the original song.
About the singers: When they start, the first one is Prinz R. Hodenherz III (short Hodi, from Feuerschwanz), the second one is Hauptmann Feuerschwanz (short Hauptmann, from Feuerschwanz), then comes, as you guessed right, Melissa Bonny (from Ad Infinitum), on the fourth place comes Alea (from Saltatio Mortis) and last one is Thomas Winkler (former frontman of the metal band Gloryhammer).
For June I have already requested "Ultima Nocte" from Feuerschwanz. I think Saltatio Mortis and Ad Infinitum will follow later ;)

Manowar Battle Hymn live Earthshaker-fest 2005. Accept no substitutes. Imo, we are talking at least Babymetal or Nightwish level live production. 200 piece choir and orchestra, plus the former members joining them on stage. Epic. The ultimate gift for the fans.

I've been anticipating this since I saw it in the announcements for April. Concerning the multitude of guest appearances: I think the idea is to fit the theme of the song, letting the metal "warriors" of the world unite (well, "the world" doesn't extend beyond Germany and Switzerland in this case, but anyway 😆 ). One may like it or not, but I guess it can be very confusing if you're not familiar with the artists.
I'm actually a bit shocked that they didn't use Melissa's growls more (there are some in the choruses, if you listen closely). As someone else already mentioned, the guys all have a quite similar vocal approach and she would have blended in better with growls, if you ask me. But I guess they wanted to go for more feminine vocals as a contrast, which doesn't fit the song that well in my humble opinion. Anyway, we will hear more of Melissa once we get to my Ad Infinitum request.
I liked the review, but it was a little disappointing that you couldn't get into more detail, because you didn't know who was who. Not really your fault though. I think it's not the best idea to request a song with this many contributors, when you have not reacted to any of them in the past, if I remember correctly.

Funny thing about this song is that I did not know it at all when I first listened to it - had never heard of it and came just looking for the artists.
Anyhow, after one, two minutes in the song I just thought: That sounds just like Manowar might sound.
However, I had never consciously listened to a Manowar song before, either. 😆
My brother, however, is a fan and used to have a tourt poster in his bedroom - my impression was that the song's overal notion resembled the way the poster looked like, and apparently, I was right.
(At that time, I had moved out from my parents's house already, and he had, too, to a different city, so no, I might not have heard the song there ever before. It was just the overal Conan feeling, I guess.

New here, just got sucked in with the dragonborn comes reaction. Based off what I've seen and heard I'd suggest checking out the song Jenny of Oldstone by The Dark Side of the Moon. Lead singer Melissa Bonny and it shows a lot of her vocal range. Did I mention there's a harp?
Given that Melissa's regular band (ad infinitum) just opened for Epica you might have an idea what to expect.

So please rate them after at least 3 pints of Met or (german)beer. They are just a really nice Band to have a festival on a medieval castle. But then, they will kick axxxx and bring you a seriuos hangover. Love them^^

I agree about Thomas Winkler's pitch note. He was a little too over the top in other parts for me too.
This song is a fun project for Feuerschwanz really as this is from their 2nd disc of just covers, so i'm fine with the number of guests but i get that it's confusing for a first time listener. I really love this version of the song and others who like it will probably look into more songs, so they will know the who is who pretty fast unlike you, who has to hold back a bit so you don't spoil some potential new videos.

About "unusual" instruments: The two you see on screen are a hurdy gurdy (the one with the wheel to be cranked) and some bagpipes, plus there's some novelty sting instrument manufactured by putting some strings on a halberd. Starting at 3:32, you also hear a jaw harp, juice harp, jew's harp or whatever it is called in English, but you don't see it in the video. JustJen thought it was a didgeridoo :-)

Manowar has broken their own record and they added one new "the longest live show ever, 5 hours and 1 minute"
On top of that they signed their first album record in their own blood, Eric is known for his insane 41 second long high pitch scream, Joey is legend on his own and they are Kings Of Metal!
Manowar is amazing, if you want to hear something that will tell you what Manowar is capable of listen to "Power" or "Fight Until We Die"
Btw... Manowar has the best song that has been ever written in music history "Achilles Agony And Ecstasy In Eight Parts" no question, no discussion :) about this
oh and you like bass guitar? Than listen to Joey DeMaio (bass guitarist of Manowar) he has guitar like no one else (really, very specially customized, with very very thin neck) and his solos are legendary

Melissa Bonny is great check her out in Rage of lights cover of Amon Amarths Twilight of the Thunder God.
Or in her new band Ad Infinitum, I love their acoustic version of Marching on to Versailles, Unstoppable, Animals or Afterlife ft Nils Molin from Amaranthe. (Melissa is engaged to the drummer in Amaranthe)
With Feuerschwanz why not Schubetanz, Das elfte Gebot, I see fire (Ed Sheeran cover), Metfest (live), Memento Mori or Ding ft Melissa Bonny (SEED cover).
Then you have Dark Side Of The Moon - Jenny Of Oldstones (GOT cover)
Another fun unrelated but fun reaction would be - Diggy Diggy Hole with Wind Rose...😂❤
it is seriously great... - and funny.

I had a suspicion one of them, the guy that went really high there with his vocals, was the vocalist of Gloryhammer, I just didn't know his name. Guess that by the comments I was right. I personally like his vocal style, it's ultra power metal.
I heard this song once in fact. Pretty good in my opinion, but Manowar is Manowar. It remains my favorite north american band of all time, and as things are these days, I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Bro!!! You have to check out Man O War's original Warriors of the World. The best part of this version was Melissa Bonny's vocals. She's the lead vocalist for the band Ad Infinitum. You should definitely do a reaction to Ad Infinitum. Also I'm probably a bit biased to ManOWar cuz they are from Auburn in central New York and I knew them from the club circuit there. The singer that had the "pinched" vocals was Thomas Winkler former lead vocalist for Glory Hammer. The singer B4 him is the lead vocalist for Feuershwanz.

This is a fun band and this is a fun song but you need to be familiar with the German metal scene to truly appreciate them. They have dozens of good songs but they have nothing truly spectacular.
"The last guy" was Thomas Laszlo Winkler, used to be the singer of Gloryhammer for 10 years.
Feuer = fire. Schwanz = tail, also slang for penis.
The strange instruments were a hurdy gurdy, a bagpipe, and a Jew's harp - and they were there, on the track. There was also a bass guitar on a halberd but I am not sure how real it was.

I like that you're so honest!
Since you don't really see any critical comments on their video, here are some things I'm not a fan of:
Why have so many singers if the male singers all sing in that samey raspy/gritty one-dimensoinal style that is everywhere in German Medieval rock/metal nowadays? (seriously, it all sounds the same, no variation anymore in that genre). Melissa is the only one who sticks out... which she shouldn't because this is basically an ensemble.
Some parts aren't as nuanced (mostly vocally) or hit as hard as the original. I love Melissa's voice, but her part in the downtempo section was very weak. It's an emotional line about being strong and fighting, not a pretty lullaby.
These all-star collaborations seem to be part of Napalm Records's marketing strategy, seems to be working so far.

To be honest, I think this is a cover noone needed.
I dont know exactly what, but there is something terrible wrong with the bagpipe instrumentation in the first seconds of the choruses (for example 7:14-7:20). Also, I dont know why there are 4 vocalists, they are poorly used.
I neither hate nor love Feuerschwanz, but I think this is bad and very forgettable.
