I am American and wouldn't trade it for anything! We have our problems just like other countries, but we have many different cultures that are here - not just one - that would be boring. Most inventions are done and it's exciting to do whatever you want.

@@gissyb1 Russia is generally similar to Canada in terms of how cold it gets. The vast majority of the US is pretty easily warmer than the vast majority of Canada (except Alaska of course). Most of the southern half of the US is warmer than anywhere in Russia. I live in one of the coldest states in the US (South Dakota) and Moscow and Saint Petersburg (Russia's 2 largest cities) for example are both colder.
*Standards of living* coming from a Russian.. literally every index they are way way worse off, even homicide its over double for the whole of Russia vs the whole of USA including areas with cartel members like Chicago and southern California plus the mass shootings.. those all included yet Russia is double according to the United Nations.

@Porcupine Unfortunately, most Americans value money over everything else. It is a capitalistic society, so this is to be expected. As far as trust goes, it seems to me like people are very trustworthy when the situation is mutually beneficial, but once it becomes costly or risky, that can change very quickly.
@Porcupine I don't even trust family with money any longer. I hate to say. Got burned big time. I'm an introvert and it takes a lot to get me out of my author cave to interact. I am a good friend but got stabbed there, too. Most did so due to ignorance of the situation.

Im russian and lived i the u.s. and can say, this video is completely wrong. In russia, they drink too much and believe they are brilliant because that is all out government owned media tells us. The people i have met go to gyms, exercise regularly, eat heath and some of the most advanced tech in the world. In russia, we import a lot of tech because the corruption and missuse of money has ruined the economy. Also, what russia teaches about history is completely false. I have seen a lot of the historic documants in person and can say, what i wax taught in russian education was a lie.

As an American, I love Russia. Maybe because I’m a rebel. I was born in the 1960s and our teachers and the media tried to teach us Russia is bad, very bad, they are all evil Communists. But I loved Russian art, music, ballet, architecture. How can people who create these things be bad? I live near the town "Grafenwöhr" in Germany (US military has a training area there) and damn that is so true. It really irritates alot of germans how quickly americans will start smalltalk with strangers xD.
Our family hosted a Russian high school boy for a month about five years ago. His name was Nikita and he was from Moscow. His mother is a pediatrician and I think his father worked in material sciences. He and my son got along so well they were once mistaken for brothers. We enjoyed having him.

The older I get, and the more I learn, it still blows me away that governments, cultural differences, and propaganda have fooled people for so long into believing that they are much different than others... We are all humans. We need food, shelter, and desire companionship and some form of security. This American would love to be able to visit and converse with Russians about life, and all kinds of topics. My guess would be that we have much more in common than stereotypes would suggest.

Its not just the propaganda, though! When are countrymen & women travel abroad, they share what they understand and based on their experiences, and that seeps into are caricature of others as well! For example, the fact that french people dont take showers and that french women are hairy. So American GI's brought this back from the last world war, maybe not taking into account that those were unusual times and that French people arent normally like that. unfortunately, this stereotype has really stuck here! And the fact that Canadians live in igloos, and ride dog sleds through perpetual snow!

The USA does have a ridiculous amount of fast, very unhealthy food restaurants, but you do not have to eat at them if you care about your health. Just keep driving by, like I do.
I know right....I always have to comment on these types of videos that you judge the person not the country.
I just bring healthier foods with my husband and I when we travel around. Because it is true that there's a lot of unhealthy fast food chains out there. Or we end up eating Chinese food, lol. And find healthier options. Like chicken and broccoli with steamed rice. We're not Asian but love the food. We're not normal Americans, lol. My husband is a Miltary brat and I am a first generation American. Maybe this is why.
@@KC-jr6zs Sorry, I don't normally like to come off as argumentative online but if you are referring to Americanized Chinese food and white processed rice then you have only a minimally healthier diet option as opposed to eating traditional fast food. Americanized Chinese food contains astronomically high levels of sodium, possibly the highest amounts you will run across anywhere eating out. Sucrose (table sugar) is also a staple in this food, usually present in higher amounts than you may guess as the taste can become obscured in the many contrasting flavors in this style of food. And white rice is just a trashy source of carbs even though it can be tasty (I prefer Jasmine rice). Yes, there is a decent amount of fiber, vitamins, and minerals as a result of the vegatables present in this food but much of the positive is negated by the items I mentioned above. Sucks, because I personally love Americanized Chinese food but it is what it is. I've become very health conscious over the years especially where food is concerned so I've researched this topic quite extensively. Sad but true, the American diet is mostly garbage.
@@joeldavis5815 No worries, I totally get what you're saying. Everything you said is true. It comes to be small pickings to choose from when traveling around by car on the road. It's either that sometimes or I have to remember to make something before we go. I sometimes forget. You never know, maybe I forget because of all the chemicals in our food supply. We can always wonder. We eat organic as much as we can. But that's not always a guarantee to avoid chemicals still. Hopefully good changes can come to America one day. I'm not holding my breath though.

What most people who have never been to the US can never fully grasp is that the US is literally 50 countries in one; each state has a different goveernment, constitution, laws, ways of socializing, educational systems, foods, climate, landscape, passtimes, foods. They share a language and certain things, but they even speak differently from one state to another. I grew up in the US and have lived and visited many states, and each experience was unique. I always encourage people to visit and form their own opinion rather than watching foreign news promoting uninformed and decontextualized views, or too many Hollywood films. The US has issues, yes. But there is lots of culture, arts, sports, great food, linguistic and cultural diversity and each state will offer a unique window into their world.
I wouldn't quite say 50 countries in one, as nearby states cluster with each other, but definitely California is its own thing (though it shares a lot with Oregon/Washington in some ways), so are Texas or Florida, which is different from NY again. But not much difference when you cross the border between NY and Mass for example (near Albany), or between Vermont and Maine... I haven't been to Dakota but I can't imagine it being that different from Montana. You can probably say it's a dozen countries in one at least though, which definitely makes it very heterogenous...

The biggest misconception non-Americans have about America is that we're all rich. In truth, most of us are poor people trying to _live_ like we're rich. The young Americans you see on reality shows with fancy cars, nice watches, huge houses, and chic clothes - 99% of those people are in debt up to their eyeballs. They may have a high income, but they have nothing to show for it except the appearance of wealth.
The irony is, most of my clients don't live like they're rich. They don't have flashy cars or have enormous homes or wear flashy clothes. They don't buy a lot of things that lose value over time, like cars or clothes or jewelry. They drive Toyotas - but they own stocks. They live in modest houses - but they own other modest houses that they rent out to make more money.
The idea that "anyone can become rich" in the USA is _absolutely_ true. But to become rich, you have to live like you are poor, and invest your income in things that make you more income. Almost everyone in the USA could do this if they had the self-discipline, but most of us have trouble resisting the consumer mindset. Our economy caters to our vices and we indulge them.
If you see a person in the USA who looks rich, that is usually a sign that they are poor. It sounds crazy but it's true.

I’m an old contractor, most of my clients are what I would call the local aristocracy and old money. They’re not flashy, they’re mostly very conservative considering how well off they are. They are secure. You’re spot on. It’s the new money that is flashy. They want everyone to be impressed with them and all their stuff. Old money people tend to be really nice. New money, not so much.

Just like with every walk of of life; there ARE bad actors, and there always will be. Funny though, that you single out Legal Counsel and not Judges, Judge's Clerks [who have ENOURMUS power, ie; writing briefs, which cases to take up etc...]
There ARE honest and very skilled Legal Counsel out there.
It's the Ambulance Chaser and Divorce Lawyers that leave such a bad taste in the mouth for most people.

I just know that the southern american cities are rather big when it comes to space so people can build houses and live there. But big cities are usually crowded and people live in flats. In Russia almost nobody lives in a flat outisde the bigger cities. I would say that 90% of the buildings outside the cities are houses.

I think from what i can see from here at home (Orlando Florida) that Russia is very big and beautiful and with beautiful people that would love to get to know us better as well. I was in Russia twice, once in the early 70's, then in 89. Russians were very friendly to me and my brother. We sang songs, laughed a lot, and had conversations often by hand gestures and even drawing, since English wasn't common. I very much enjoyed Russians.
Modern Russians or simply put, young people almost all know English, for those years that you have not changed much and now everyone knows English at a basic level, I am from Russia but I was able to write you this message, I have been learning English since the 1st grade for 11 years and I think my level is very weak, I learn very rarely any words for myself so I can be wrong about something

I worked for 25 years with tourists in Rome. Unfortunately Russians didn't look talkative, friendly, nice and they never used to smile. Later I read that for them behaving with a man in that way, means to have great respect for him. Smiling on somebody face to them means disregard. By the way, few of them knew English.

I ran a shop for a while that had nearly 100% Russian and Polish tradesman (about 45 people). Most were very talented at their trade and willing to do whatever was needed. We sometimes had crushing deadlines. There was never a conflict with any of them. I helped them wherever I could, praised their work, and thanked them. They taught me how to swear in their languages. It always broke the tension when I would mispronounce some nasty word and they would laugh. It was fun. I think different governments create an illusion about other countries, which is mostly untrue. People are people.

That's because of different cultures. When a person from a Slavic country hears "how are you?", they (generally) answer how they really are. They treat it as a normal question, not as a greeting. I remember my English teacher told us to always answer "I'm fine" even if you are not fine, because it's like "hello" and people don't really want to know how you are 😅
That’s because they value truth. Americans never had communism where truth was always in the shadows. Russians (and most slavic countries) have a hard past, that’s why they are tougher than Americans.

I watched this and said “that’s true” and I can see that” quite a bit. There are at least six fast food places in a mile from my apartment. I can understand them wanting to visit America but not live here. I feel the same way about Russia.
I have lived in a few different states here in the US and all of them have different cultures. I have met a few Russians here in the US and they are kind, friendly, and very intelligent. I love meeting people every where I travel. I hope to get to Russia one day. It’s sad all governments paint such a bad picture of each other.

I am not sure "all governments" describe others poorly. In many countries, including the US, they talk about "X government did this" and often try to separate the actions and views of the government from the people.

@Human Peeing Everyone needs to create their own path that works best for them, and there is no set series of events that has to happen to achieve competence in a foreign language, but I did pretty normal things and hope you can benefit from my experiences. I started by completing the entire Duolingo course (took around 2 months) and then moved onto downloading and memorizing all the decks I could find on Anki (took around 1-2ish months), increasing my vocabulary first in the fastest way possible so it would be easier for me to refine my skills (such as pronunciation, grammar, etc.) later on. After that, my vocabulary was at around 7,000 words and I was near a B1-B2 level. I then watched as many videos on RUclips and foreign films as possible, maximizing my input. After feeling ready to practice output, I branched out and found my group of "Russian weirdo's" :)
I often think about all the friendships I would have missed out on if I hadn't learned the Russian language, and connecting with others is what language learning is all about in the end.
According to stricter tests and definitions of the levels, I sit at a B2 level. On more lenient tests I am a C1. I feel I still have a lot of room to improve, but consistency is key!

@маска басманова I was not lying about anything, and I admitted that I still have a lot to learn. I don't know the best way to proceed but I know how I have already gotten to the point I'm at. I am happy with the choices I made because of how quick my progress was, even if everything was based on memorization. My goal was to create a solid base as quickly as possible, no matter how dependent on memorization it was, so that I could start watching native content and communicating as soon as possible and learn from that. Still just trying to improve little by little every day :)

Am American, and I haven’t eaten fast food in over 20 years. I mostly eat food from home, and when we do eat out it’s usually Thai food or Mexican, never fast food.
I honestly can respect the people who only want to travel to the US from time to time due to it not being the way they like to live their lives, but for anyone out there who currently lives anywhere other than the US and wants to live here, what makes you want to do that? I mean, surely you know we don't have free health care, we have legal ownership of most firearms and weapons, education costs a fortune (on top of health care) it just seems so unappealing for anyone not already living here/grew up here.
As a European that spent time in US (years) I can point out one BIG difference. When American ask you where are you from and you tell them they will 100% of the time say "cool" followed by an example of why my country is beautiful. Weather they went there for a Vacation or they know someone that did or they saw something on TV etc. If they have anything negative or negative experience they will never bring that up. (and they sure could because my country is not as advanced in many things as USA)
Europeans.. on the other hand If you bring up "Americans" have this need to say negative things first.. which actually makes me sad not only because most of them are not true, but it shows Europeans in some kind of "inferiority complex" way..,

As an American who has visited many countries (including Russia), most stereotypes presented by the media are less than factual. The Russians I met there were welcoming and friendly (but not overtly so). A people shouldn’t be judged by the actions of a few, but often are. If I had a bad experience in St. Petersburg with pickpockets, I could think ‘all Russians are thieves.’ That’s not truthful but it could become a stereotype. I was pleased to see that some believe we’re generous as that’s a good stereotype to foster.

We think of the world as a competition to live in the best country when in reality we live on the same floating rock in space and the borders are drawn by old men to keep their people at bay. We need to realise that making the world a competition will be the death of us
As for generosity - I laughed .. It is customary for Americans when they meet to ask the question "how are you?" , although in fact the interlocutor does not care how you really are. In Russia, if you are asked such a question, it means that a person is really interested in knowing if you have problems or not. And I doubt that many of the Americans will help you without any benefit for themselves (and even call the police to check who you are) in Russia, they will help you without asking for anything in return. different mentality is felt.

For generosity, I've traveled and found most people in most countries to be generous. If you're at a train station and lost, a lot of people will be happy to direct you, some even walking you to your destination. Most famously, there's even a US holiday where kids go door to door and get free candy from people in town.
If people could separate politics from people, stop watching the "news" and travel, you will find out that we are basically all the same. The vast majority of humans are great no matter where you are or live on this planet.

And what I’ve learned is that every human on the planet is going through the same thing. We experience love and joy and happiness and we also go thru pain and sorrow and tragedy. Meeting each other with kindness and compassion goes a long way. If we just spend enough time together we learn very quickly we are all in this life together. We are family. Eat better than the average American by growing some of your own food, cooking from scratch, and only eating out every now and then. Disconnect from commercial media. Make good use of public resources, like schools, libraries and parks. Travel domestically and internationally, as time and funds allow, because travel broadens the mind and allows the traveler to hear and understand other perspectives, including the sorts of observations made in this video.

We like many of the same things and enjoy doing similar stuff. I would like to visit Russia one day it seams to be a beautiful country. Remember it is not the people of our countries that have a problem but both our governments that are pushing us apart and that is very sad. Both of our countries should be looking closely at what China is doing, we should be working together to make the world a safer and happier place. To the girl who said every teenager has a car here: there is actually a reason for that. It is not necessarily that every American has money to just spend on cars, which is also common, but American public transportation can range from pretty bad to virtually non existent. Obviously this is entirely dependent on where you live, like if you live in NYC, public transportation sucks and is very dirty, but it is there and you can generally get around anywhere in the city using it. Same with other big cities that are densely populated. But for me, I live in the south. Public transportation is abhorrent. The bus stops are incredibly spaced out, the few trains we have only take you to different cities (not around within the same city), and unless you are in a built up area, walking anywhere can take ages. It can also be dangerous at night not just for normal reasons like possibly getting mugged, but somebody might call the cops on you simply for being outside (it is uncommon for people in my area to be walking around at night unless they are doing illegal activities) and dealing with police here is generally not pleasant. In most places in America if you do not have a car or cannot drive it is a MAJOR inconvenience that the state and federal governments do very little about. If you are considering visiting or immigrating to America please keep this in mind.

@@something_special500 I know me too. it really sucks. Granted if there are bars around it's ok, but it's usually only in a bigger area and once they close you have to go home. My neighborhood borders the countryside so walking around past 11 at night attracts dirty looks and sometimes even police. In America we are not as free as we'd like the world to think.

Russia seems to have many similarities with where I'm from (the midwest) when someone askes us how we are, we tell them and not just small talk for no reason. Here in California many things do feel superficial but I also feel the same as you.

As an American it’s funny to see someone say Americans “don’t like Russians”. We seperate government from the people. There are many Russians in the US..as well as people from everywhere else. We know Russians are thoughtful kind people.
But they are stupid YES. Especially around sunbelt states. Over there they consume less vegetable but more GMO crop. Hormone milk .. etc. America strong because high tech firms and scientists that live around costal area.

They are partially correct. They fail to recognize that most Americans are not like what they describe. Many, sure, not not all, and not most.
They should also be asked about Canadians, and Europeans like Norwegians, Finish, Dutch, British, Germans, etc.
Some of these stereotypes do appear true but after watching many Russian RUclipsrs show Russia from their perspective, I see that we are more alike than we are different. I see that it is best to take a good look in the mirror before criticizing anyone about anything. Also, it is best to get to know the people for yourself and then you can make a better call on how they really are. I still love Russians!

I wouldn't want to live in the USA. No health insurance. Here in Canada is almost identical culture without much of the downside and free healthcare. Only thing I don't like is the cold weather. That is why I went out and got a Euro Passport so I can also live in Italy. I am 65 years old and I still have never seen a gun in my life, only on TV and heard some friends talking about hunting. I live in a fair sized city also, Winnipeg. When I travel ,everyone thinks I am American and I have to tell them, or wear a Canadian T shirt. Many Americans actually do that also so they don't get harassed.
Ukraine is a beautiful place also and warmer than Winnipeg and I can move there also since my wife is Ukrainian. The cities are cleaner than Canadian cities and things are very inexpensive. Everyone lives in apartment in Ukraine for the most part and they don't pay property tax and they don't bother with house insurance. Since Putin blew up so many blocks the insurance would not cover acts of war anyway. Moscow is a nice city also and I went to Krasnoyarsk in Siberia and that is nice too. The apartment blocks are all pretty ugly because the balconies are used as storage rooms. You can actually rent a car in Ukraine and drive there, it is just like Manitoba Canada. I also rented a car in Italy and it is the worst place to drive and a mistake. I have been all over , Trinidad, Guyana, Australia, New Zealand, and Italy is the worst. You can't even walk down the street without risking being run over by a motorcycle.
Most Americans don't travel and only 40% or lower even have a passport, whereas 90% of Canadians have passport and travel all over. When I went to NewZealand, the guest books for different things had an equal number of Americans and Canadian signing but the US has 10 times the population of Canada. This shows you that most Americans don't go anywhere.
Going outside yaa county is not considered traveling but sure. What do u call it when u leave your state? Moon landing?

We had an exchange student from Italy for a year. The things that she said stood out the most to her is how 1.) How ethnically diverse it is here. This is obvious as we all came from different places.
2.). How EVERYONE holds the door for each other, regardless of how far back that person is from the door.
3.) How people like to make small talk while waiting in lines, etc- which often evolves to long deep conversations

@@rienn8559 I don’t know if you’re an American, but holding doors is just a courtesy that’s common here. It’s nothing too special, just an easy thing that’s nice to do for a stranger. It always makes me feel good when people do it for me. Small talk with strangers is definitely common in the US. If someone isn’t receptive to it, the other person usually stops pretty quickly. My exchange student loved that. When we went to amusement parks and other places with lines she “practiced” making small talk!🤣
