Whew, what a movie! I had to simmer on this one, but the more time that passed after watching, the more I liked it. What was your first Tarantino film? - Sarah
This was my first Tarantino film, I saw it the week it opened because Harvey Keitel was starring in it, and it was sort of "the return of Harvey Keitel". He did this and also "Bad Lieutenant" the same month, so it really was a "return" for him. (and he was ubiquitous in the 90s after that). The movie was so wild, immediately became a fan and when "Pulp Fiction" came out, it was VERY anticipated. Saw that the day it opened, ditto Jackie Brown and the first Kill Bill. I didn't like Kill Bill that much so after that I stopped going opening day, lol. But I'm a Tarantino fan from the very beginning, and it's pretty much his first three films that are my favorites.
I think I saw Pulp Fiction first, but Reservoir Dogs is a favorite of mine (probably behind Death Proof and slightly above Jackie Brown). I love it so much I own 2 copies on DVD 😅 the original color coded cover and the 20th anniversary metal gas can case with matchbook DVD sleeve 👍
Kill Bill Vol. 1. I was 8 when I saw the climactic fight of that movie and was forever changed lol. For better, worse... ehhh who's to say :P lol But nah, that movie BLEW my mind cuz of the style of it all.
20:04 that door actually kept swinging open during filming in the warehouse the entire time they were shooting in there. That one scene in particular it started going open again, and Keitel (Mr. White), staying in character kept his dialogue going while walking over and closing the door. Penn (Nice Guy Eddie) was following him because he wasn't sure what was going on, and wanted to make sure he still heard the dialogue while Keitel was speaking and walking to the door. Tarantino liked the realism and how genuine the scene looked so much that he kept it in.
White did shoot Orange at the end. The cops returned fire after that. Also, if you listen very closely, you can hear Mr. Pink getting arrested/shot outside while trying to escape.
We don't really know if he got shot or arrested or both or actually got away with the diamonds but he definitely was busting & unloading that chrome .45 at the police both times he ran into them👍
this comment alone makes me wonder if i should watch the reaction.... ugh, i hate when peopel don't understand.. but then i wonder did i understand everything when i first saw it? ... honestly i think i learned about what happened with that character long after watching the film... okay. i need to not be so judgemental. lo.
I heard 4 shots in rapid succession, which I believe were: 1) Joe shoots Orange 2) White (Larry) shoots Joe 3) Eddie shoots White 4) White turns right away and shoots Eddie just as he’s shot (which makes sense because White knew he had to deal with both guns aimed at him).
@@onskates56 not to mention that Mr. White is not only a professional stick up man but he's also a Vietnam veteran & very good with firearms hence why he accurately shot both cops dead in the squad car with dual .45's & why he felt so bad for Mr. Orange being shot & bleeding to death in front of him because he's seen it happen to his buddies during his time serving in the war 👍
@@christopherking4932 it's either in the 10th or 15th anniversary DVD bonus features ( I honestly can't remember which anniversary dvd because I owned both of them) , Quentin has written back stories for *Mr. Pink* , *Mr. White* , *Mr. Brown* & *Mr. Blonde* that u can read!!!!! *Pink* was born in the ghetto & has the most street smarts ) probably why he's smarter than the others) , *White* was in the army or marines & has the most experience with weapons (hence his aim & sympathy for a wounded Mr. Orange) , *Brown* was a Rapest & I think a pedophile (probably why he got shot in the forehead as a nod to his sick mind) , & *Blonde* was a serial killer that was raised up spoiled in a perfect normal middle class family as a only child with both of his parents !!!!!! There's also longer versions of they're four back stories on the web too if u can find them but if not , just buy both of the anniversary DVDs I guess or maybe it's also in the bonus features of a Blu Ray or 4K copy but I honestly couldn't tell u!!!!!
I'd agree with that. It's before all the stylistic Tarantino tics and tropes became so prevalent in his movies. Even the inane passages of dialogue trope still felt reasonably fresh and not overly forced, as it does in later movies. Most rewatchable, along with Jackie Brown.
Yeah what's interesting about the radio is it marks the only time where Tarantino feels a need to explain his retro soundtrack, whereas his style is so embedded in popular culture now that we all expect that kind of musical flavour from him.
Great reaction of you guys, and about the title choice of Reservoir Dogs, it came together when Tarantino was working as a clerk at Video Archives in the 1990s and one day he suggested a french drama titled Au Revoir Les Enfants (Goodbye Children) to a customer to rent. The customer misheard it and said "I dont wanna watch no Reservoir Dogs!" Tarantino liked the wrong title so much that it became the title of his film debut.
Tim Roth’s monologue in the toilet with the police and police dog was an accident. They were rehearsing and only had enough money in the budget to run through it once without having to pay the crew overtime, so Tim narrated as they worked on the revolving camera angles in order to get the timing right. Tarantino loved it so much with Roth narrating in front of the cops that kept it in the final cut
Deathproof (the 2nd half of the Grinhouse double feature with Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror) is another Tarantino movie. He also wrote the scripts for True Romance, Natural Born Killers, and From Dusk Till Dawn.
The opening scene is great, awesome dialogue. I love the "If you shoot me in a dream" line. You gotta do "Pulp Fiction" and "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood", but I think a good bit of that may go over your heads since you two are young and probably don't much or anything of the times and the Charles Manson story. A reworking of the era.
Great reaction! My cousin snuck me into the theater when this movie came out, I was 12 back then but I absolutely loved it from the first watch and I had the biggest crush on Tim Roth. It's been 30 years and it's still one of my favorite films, and I still have a crush on Tim Roth. 🥰
Yeaah early Tarantino is great, The first of his movies that i saw was probably Pulp Fiction but i didnt finish it. The first of his movies that i watched all the way through was Django Unchained which is a great movie that i would recomend, Its a western so its different from his usual style of films.
About who shot "Nice Guy Eddie"- In the three way standoff Joe shoots Mr Orange, Mr White shoots Joe and immediately turns to Eddie- Eddie shoots White and as he is hit, White gets off a second shot- killing Eddie. It all happens in less than two seconds.
I was in my mid 30s when I saw Pulp Fiction opening week in the UK ay a really cool Art House cinema (Victorian vaudeville theatre converted, in Leeds UK, called The Hyde Park Cinema). It was mindblowing, never saw anything like it before. I'm a huge QT buff, seen all of the films, docus, interviews, making ofs... He is one of the most important auteurs of the last 30 years. You gotta see them all in release order Love hanging with you guys even though you're half my age

Everyone always complains about Mr. White being stupid at the end of the film but most fans don't know that Mr. White was a seasoned Vietnam vet & watched alot of fellow soldiers die & bleed to death infront of him so seeing Mr. Orange being so much younger than him & bleeding to death , it pretty much gave Mr. White flashbacks of seeing his old comrades like that during the war hence his extreme empathy for Mr. Orange which unfortunately caused him to unintentionally over cloud his own judgement in the end!!!! This film has very detailed back stories that Quentin wrote for each character but unfortunately he didn't have a big enough budget to actually show everything & that's also why we never see the actual heist go down either but thank Harvey Keitel (Mr. White) for believing in Quintin enough to finance this entire film which basically gave Quentin Tarantino his chance in the business & everything we got later from him👍 If u want to learn more about each characters backstory, just buy the 10th anniversary DVD & go to the Special features & u can read Mr. Pink , Mr. Brown , Mr. White & Mr. Blondes complete back stories 👍 Mr. Pink is a seasoned criminal/stick up artist that grew up in the ghetto in a all black neighborhood & is extremely street smart!!!! Mr. Brown is a rapest & a sex addict hence his conversation at the beginning of the film & why he got shot in the forehead because it was basically like his karma for having such a sick mind!!!! Mr. White is a seasoned Vietnam vet , a professional stick up artist & very good with weapons hence why he was basically made the lead man for the entire jewel heist job by Joe & why hes so accurate with those duel handguns !!! Mr. Blonde is another career criminal but also a undercover serial killer that grew up spoiled in a mid - upper class family with both of his parents as a only child & never went hungry a day in his entire life & just like most sociopaths , he was a bed wetter , a fire starter & he loved to torture small animals as a child 💯 You're welcome 👍
I first saw The Dogs in a seedy cinema in London on its general release. The sense of menace is dialed in from the first frame, so much so that I almost left the theatre after the (SPOILER) ear scene. However, I stuck with it and I was glad I did. An explosive debut from a daring, intelligent and masterful director. It does help that the cast is so on point, the music is so cool and the overall effect is one of breathless forward motion right up until the end. 10/10. P.S. love you guys, keep watching the great films from my era (late '70s to early '90s)

My guess at first with the title was that it was a reference to the aqueducts in Los Angeles but then I read it just came from something someone said to Quentin that he thought was funny. Although that doesn’t necessarily mean it can’t mean anything
City on Fire is a movie that has a very similar ending, and has a few similar elements - no coincidence since Tarantino is a huge HK gangster film fan.
The reason why you're confused as to who shot Eddie is because Chris Penn's gun fired early accidently and caused a cluster fuckup. If my memory is correct, Tarantino didn't realize this until after the film was finished.
Shouldn't have put Mr. Orange on the ramp with his head above his legs. Instead, elevate the legs on the ramp, keep the head lower, more blood for the vital organs.
In the scene where Harvey Keitel and Laurence Tierney are talking, they mention a person they both know called Alabama, this is Alabama from True Romance. Its a small (Tarantino) world!
I fucking loved this movie from the first scene until the end, from my 1st watch to 50th watch. It’s just a very neat and tidy, FUNNY movie that wraps up perfectly
Who shot Nice Guy Eddy? They had that printed on the crew shirts when they went to Sundance. No one shot him--the squib in his chest went off early and they couldn't afford to reshoot the scene.

Pulp Fiction was my first. Everybody was taking about it so I rented it and was blown away.

Its the purity of the the film making a handful of characters a handful of locations that tells a vast story, this was his best.

Michael Madsen plays Vik Vega. Backstory says he's Vincent Vega's brother (John Travolta in Pulp Fiction).
Mr. Blue, the guy defending the waitresses, who no one ever saw in a movie before...........that dude was a real career criminal.
The one that people,tend to see last now is his best -Jackie Brown. The Elmore Leonard source material helps.
