- Kimi Werner recounts a recent dive of losing her catch of an uku to a frenzy of sharks. She returns to the ocean to try again and succeeds with a beautiful uku (also known as jobfish or grey snapper)!
She shows us how to make the Hawai’i version of lox and bagels by curing and cold smoking this beautiful fish.
She then meets up with her friends of Banzai Bagels ( banzaibagels.co ) and receives the most beautiful spread of fresh handmade bagels and all the fixings. Kimi, Buddy and Justin enjoy the most delicious breakfast feast by the sea! Lots of Buddy cuteness!

your kid is going to have such a fulfilling childhood, like we had growing up (i'm 36). sadly, i feel a lot of kids nowadays will be missing out on bike rides, playing in the dirt, and growing up at the beach... you guys seem like awesome parents.
I'm 37 and my mom let me be a kid too. She trusted me to cook or be home alone and go out into the world when a lot of other kids parents wouldn't do that. I'm better for it. Thanks mom.
You are correct, I'm 30 years old and even so called "Adults" my age don't know anything about the outdoors or have the common sense we picked up playing in the woods and being independent. Today's youth attends the University of "TikTok" to get their information.

This was so great. A lot of spearfishing videos involve 10 minutes of random swimming. No story. That shot literally raised my hear rate

Your stories and videos keep bringing me back to the islands I loved so much. The drive from wahiawa to the north shore was always so freeing. The stress just melted off and as I came to Haleiwa, I felt like a new person. Driving out to Kaena point transformed me into the hunter mode and as I hit the water the sea worked it’s magic and that feeling that only the water could bring washed over me.

I've eaten alot of cold smoked fish in my day but when I saw you cut the uku and seeing the cross section, the color or the fish and the slight smoke ring on top...the nuances of perfection was all there. I can taste it with my eyes... Im sure it was beyond epic. Great job on the whole process! The catch and cook on your channel is top level.

I miss Hawaii!! The food there especially local food is nothing like anywhere in the world. Everything is like home cooked and you can taste the passion in peoples cooking.

Only Kimi Swimmy would use a Tako that she found in a belly of another catch to chum the water! Loooove the narration... felt like I was under water with you! Buddy is getting SO big! Love his little opu... totally a result of getting the first bite! Speaking of... I love that he got excited about the Blueberry Bagel and mama got first bite! I absolutely la la la la loooooove bagels and lox! Never heard of cold smoke! We need BANZAI BAGELS on Maui!!! Looks so good! Good call on holding off until the next day Justin! PS Been using my cast iron pan again and am loving it!!!

Love your channel. It has the entire family involved. Assuming the fish can be eaten raw, (not all fish can no matter how fresh it is); there is a better way to cold smoke using a “smoke tube”. When I use my pellet smoker like you did, there is residual heat that is still cooking the fish. Love my smoke tube for cold smoking everything... steaks before I sous vide them (even vacuum seal and freezing keeps the smoke flavor). That little extra time and touch is worth it :)

I love how she doesn't keep her kid away from the fish that is dead and being cut open on the table and actually makes him interact with mother nature, teaching him about respecting nature and the cycle of life in such a natural way, in my opinion, growing up like this just makes you appreciate nature and connects you to the deep roots of our past as a species 🙏🏻🌏

ah shucks, after viewing this episode, we headed out to the north shore for some bagels and of course our son woke up late and the traffic just slowed us down lol so we didn't make it to Banzai bagels, however we did the Banzai bowls and look forward to getting some delicious bagels that somehow Buddy made us crave for it. Big respect, I can only make it about 15-20ft down before my ears start to hurt, even when I try to pressurize them. Can't imagine being able to make it down that deep and stay for a while.
