Living in New Zealand 🇳🇿 awe this tremendous. Kimi Werner, husband Justin and son Buddy out on waters with friends and family catchup with dad & mum. Fish meal mecca that salivates my appetite. You are brilliant. Thank you for my feel good memory of the day😊😊❤
This show absolutely found my soul! My Mom was one of the most vital, alive people I will ever know. She taught me to fish, to clean fish, to clean ducks and pheasants. She required all of our family to learn how to cook, we were each assigned a night of the week where the kitchen was our responsibility. I learned to plan a meal for our family, get that meal on the table and leave the kitchen ready for the next user. We lost Mom to dementia in 2020, it was difficult to watch her descent and I miss her every day. Hang on to what you can Kimi. It is hard for sure, but you and yours will capture some moments in this end time that you will carry in your heart forever. Thank-you for making this episode, it was a conduit to great memories for me. I wish you all of the peace the world can deliver on this tough journey. Taking parents to the end is brutal and incredibly important.
I just lost my grandfather to dementia. He taught me how to shoot a gun, fish, clean squirrels, deer and fish and taught me how to be a man. He was a paratrooper raised by a WW2 vet and his funeral is the 20th. Grandparents are the gift that will truly last a lifetime.
So glad Meateater is giving Kimi another opportunity to really shine on their channel. Not only is Kimi just amazing but it really rounds out Meateaters portfolio. I hope that she is given more opportunities in the future! We love her!
Kimi, thank you so much for this story and experience. My old man passed away 3 years ago, he was salt water fly fishing guide and seeing you on that boat with your dad brought back so many fond memories. Enjoy every moment and every bite of fish with your friends and family. Its all worth it in the end.
As someone who just lost my mother, the last is the best. Always love those around you, an thank those for everything they gave you in life. One of the best shows so far.
Thank you Kimi for sharing your life with us. I laughed so hard when your Dad was giving the “coordinates” to the Nabeta fishing spot. Filled my heart to see you with your Dad fishing and reminiscing about life. Keep doing what you’re doing Kimi. ❤️🥹
This episode brought a tear to my eye thinking about my mom and her love of fishing. She's gone now but 2 years ago we took 2 offshore charters in 3 days out of my home state of SE Florida. She reeled in fish like a champ at 74 years young. RIP mom.
My dad is gone now and my mother is 80. I long for the days when he and i would go hunting and fishing. I spend time with my mother wishing time would stand still for just a while. And in the mean time im trying to pass on to my kids what they gave to me. Thank you for doing this and showing we are all in the same position in life.
Absolutely amazing video!!! Took me right back to sitting in a boat with my dad, on a lake in northern Ontario that we fished annually. Fishing was very slow so we drifted back toward the landing at the end of the day. As fate would have it we both hook into a pair of walleye, the last fish my dad ever caught. 2 days later it was time to head home and Pops didn't wake up. He passed in his favourite place in the world, couldn't have wrote a better script. Thanks Kimi and cherish every moment with your folks, it looks like they taught you well
Paradise on Earth! wow that scene where Kimi had all her friends and family enjoying that amazing dinner made of all natural ingredients.. That truly is a blessing billions of people don't have. Keep up the great content I am a huge fan of Kimi Werner!!!
@ Kimi Werner, thanks for the content and thanks for keeping Steve in check the last podcast episode. I look forward to more videos. And you had me all the way up to the black beans, but it still looked delicious.
Absolutely love Swimmie Kimi!! After watching the original Kimi episode last year, I decided to try spearfishing out this winter. I've been trying to get in diving shape and (since I live in AK) I've been practicing breathing control on the couch! Anyway, it's going to be an adventure and we'll see what happens, but thanks for the inspiration for spear fishing and especially for the glimpse into your family life! Aloha!
Growing poor in the Philippines bring back memories how’s my parents taught me.. Thank you Kimi for sharing your memories with your father. God Bless..
I absolutely loved this episode. It made me cry just thinking back to fishing days with my dad. Even though he is no longer earth side, it’s a good reminder to keep doing things with loved ones and making those memories. Make time because it goes by far too quickly.
This episode brought me to tears, just so beautiful. I feel we all are in the same shoes when it come to watching our parents age. You never want it to happen, but you have to hold back the tears and be strong for them 🥰 thank you for such a beautiful story ❤❤❤
I can't wait to watch this show with my wife and kids. I love the family dynamic, the values being taught and how the adorable little kids are excited to eat a fish that their mommy just caught, good stuff!
Really appreciating the family oriented content from MeatEater. I have to think it has something to do with Steve's most recent book (which is awesome btw if you have kids). Can't wait to see more from Kimmy and her crew!!
Hands down one of the best episodes ever filmed for meateater! Kimi Werner your an outstanding soul and a Excellent example of your culture, heritage, food, and family. Makes me we want to visit Hawaii so badly after seeing this
I really love the honesty and real life vibe of this episode. Thank you for sharing a family situation many of us have or have had so openly. All the best to you and yours :)
Wow one of the best videos this channel has ever had wow! God bless you and your family. We will be praying for your mom and your family Juan Carlos Lopez from Brownsville Texas
I love this series. I was fortunate enough to live in Hawaii for six years but I overlooked spearfishing as an adventure to invest myself in. i’m kicking myself about that. But I love Kimi‘s sense of Ohana and I also feel that she is a seagoing kindred spirit to Steve in many ways. Aloha from Texas!
Ohh Kimi I know its hard watching your parents get older. Im at that age too. But this episode was an amazing tribute to them and your kids. Dont stop making these!
I feel like these episodes capture the heart of what Meateater has been trying to share from the start, but this is where they truly got it. The hunting episodes with Steve are what captured our attention in the beginning with the respect and traditions handed down, but this series with Kimi, and the other Meateater colaberations, like the ones with Daniel Prewett, are the culmination of their real message; which is family, tradition and the meaning of life itself.
Great video. Both my parents have passed dad at 58 and mom at 62. No one is ever really ready to step into what you are currently, but it happens sometimes sooner and sometimes later. The best advice I can give you is to do what you can, even with your kids and their grandparents. Leave yourself nothing on the future to look back on and say "I wish I would've...". Getting out with your dad was the perfect example of what I'm talking about. Sometimes it's challenging to find someone to be with your mom and your children during the time with your dad. It was good for everyone's soul in the end.
If paradise had a face this would be it. Prayers for your mother and your family. A few years back I lost my mom to dementia. I cared for both of my grandmother's as they died from cancer. I thought that was the worst way to die. Then I watched mom die of dementia and saw the true horror of it. Hold family close because your going to need them in the days to come.
I always save Kimi’s videos for when I can sit down and give them my full attention. I could watch her content any day, on family, life lessons, fishing, cooking, etc. She inspires me on multitude levels! Thanks for having her on for a series!!
Golden moments Kim Golden. Make and enjoy as many as you can while you can and take us along please because these videos are soo next level and go deep to the soul.
Watching all the content today. Mahalo for video. We moved from the islands in 2017 and since now the ocean is about 2.5hr drive. It has effected us as a Ohana not having the beach so close. Watching the videos brings back good memories of back home.
Couldn’t be happier to watch this! Exactly what we’ve been craving from Kimi, every single bit of it. For an avid MeatEater fan (one of the 4 women?! 😂) who is also still a daddy’s girl, a hunter when I can sneak out, and a mama of 3 little ones that cooks at home 100% of the time, this was just pure joy. I loved your instinct to put the greens under and beans and all of those extras that come into play in Mexican cuisine just straight onto the fish, that was a lightbulb moment for me!
Kimi’s content is by far the best thing on Meateater. She has elevated the storytelling by celebrating the universal human condition in her own unique culture.
Mahalo for sharing this video of your family’s life. I really enjoyed watching it and remembering those episodes with you and your dad catching a lot of nabeta. Like you said “ it’s life that have gone full circle “, enjoy it and I’m pretty sure your dad will want to do it again with you!
I look forward to more episodes. I have parents getting up there in age and this inspire me me to engage with them with what we used to do when we were younger. Thank you Kimmie. 😊
Loved this. Came over from your channel. A wonderful and heartfelt time with your Mom, Dad and friends. I'm live on Maui so that was extra. Mahalo and Aloha.
This was an absolutely fantastic episode! I as a girl dad appreciate your relationship with your dad and also love your Will to keep and honor your tradition alive!!
I love Kimi's content, it reminds me of my family. My cousin's and I fishing, doing things a certain way and using certain spots because that's how our dad's did it. Mixing tradition with modern.
I’m loving this new series!! It’s nice seeing this perspective in this space. The pacing of the editing and narrative quality is top notch! Thanks for creating this!
Kimi Werner, the best Hawaiian thing that has happened to youtube, her views should go into the millions not thousands, be sure to check her channel and watch her videos
This reflection on family and parents was thought-provoking. Both of my parents are now gone, and i watched with horror their demise. Relish in the good times you have....for the end is bitter to be sure.
Kimmie my prayers are with your Ohana for both your parents health as the aging process goes on. I love your cooking everything you make looks so Ono, I'm sure it is. Aloha from a Big Island fan🤙🏼🤙🏼
Very very happy you got your own series with Meateater....... I've loved learning so much about your Hawaiian way of life on the water. I hope I'm in a situation where I get to dive for fish with a spear one day!!
Kimi got her own series! Amazing. Perfect. So excited. Edit: After watching it, I had to type more. I moved from Michigan to Oahu for college 20 years ago and got to spend a couple of years in paradise. This episode, the family aspect, auntie's garden, and just the vibes brought it all back like a thunderclap and had me in happy tears. Just wow.
Oct 7th I went spearfishing in Maui with a guide. I enjoyed it, next time Ill know what to work on so Ill do even better. You all make it look easy. He said meat eater has brought him lots of business
MAHĀLO Nui Kimi for sharing your passion along with great hunters spear fishing in your element and to celebrate the fruits of your labor’s is awesome I look forward to seeing more posts documenting like these it gives me a great respect for you all 🙏🏻🤙🏾
I lost my dad last year, suddenly, to a heart attack almost 9 months after losing my sister. Push him to live. Enjoy your time with him. I'd give anything but my lady or my son for 5 minutes to tell him I love one last time.
Aloha, just shot over fm your other channel as soon as I heard. Used to live on Lanai an that was my favorite spot to camp, fish, and dive. Brutal to get to w/o a boat or kayak, but the best sunsets ever. Choke centipedes and black widows though. Lost many big fish on Pili lures, but always got dinner with opihi for snacks.
We call them tuskies here in Australia though they grow massive here as do the bluebones. Thanks for the lovely video with your family showed revived memories of my father and I fishing together. Time to get him back out fishing together.
Thank you all for watching! We really loved making this series and telling these stories!
Very heartfelt episode. Thank you for that.
Arm floaties on the kids are not effective PFD's.
I hope you get to be able to make more videos for MeatEater. We missed you!
Miss you on your channel
Chee pono!!!

I hope we see more “Spearchef” episodes. This was one of the best things I’ve watched recently.
So glad Meateater is giving Kimi another opportunity to really shine on their channel. Not only is Kimi just amazing but it really rounds out Meateaters portfolio. I hope that she is given more opportunities in the future! We love her!
What a touching tribute to your parents and your way to carry their traditions into your children’s lives
26:53 Another home run story, thanks Kimi and to all who made this video so special. A true waterwoman
Absolutely love to see this. Self sufficiency, nature, family and friends. That's living.
Kimi, thank you so much for this story and experience. My old man passed away 3 years ago, he was salt water fly fishing guide and seeing you on that boat with your dad brought back so many fond memories. Enjoy every moment and every bite of fish with your friends and family. Its all worth it in the end.
I love this a couple bad ass mothers getting it done and walking the balance between raising your youngins and caring for your parents as they age.
As someone who just lost my mother, the last is the best. Always love those around you, an thank those for everything they gave you in life. One of the best shows so far.

Awesome video and content, by far the best & well filmed videos of any hunting, fishing and over all outdoor channels/brands by a long shot!
Wonderful to see you and your family as always!
Selective being the appropriate word for sustaining your passion, nice vid.
We call them tuskies here in Australia though they grow massive here as do the bluebones. Thanks for the lovely video with your family showed revived memories of my father and I fishing together. Time to get him back out fishing together.
Thank you for sharing this journey! Absolutely amazing 💯🙏
Beautiful day’s and happy times they were!
To many people take for granted aparents gifts until it to late. Mine are gone and I still thank them for it and that God I had them for my parents
Kimo, I remember years back when you guys were younger catching Nabetta, one after another- a boat load. Mahalo piha 🌺
