I can't agree more with the way you are teaching Mandolin. As a teacher, my goal is to make myself irrelevant. Teaching note-for-note without teaching students how the music works is a waste of their time and money. Teaching the patterns that govern Western music, which is what you are doing, is the key to turning a student into a musician. I can't wait to buy the upcoming method.
+Stephen Clark thank you very much. As I mentioned to someone else if I could just find enough free time where I'm not cutting firewood it would be a piece of cake. Thanks for watching.
Jerry, Thanks for your time on the phone today! Can you do a short video to show your fret file please? I want to make one like it! Thanks! Matt Ross (Homegrown Grass Band)
I noticed the computer screen in the background and was wondering what brand and version of an editing system you are using? I use Pinnacle Studio HD14 for my meager editing system because it is VERY simple for the simple recordings and finished products on DVD that I do. I cannot remember you ever mentioning what you use. Thanks!
Jerry, love your work. What was the name of the song you played at the end of this video ? I ask because my mother used to play that tune on the piano for her mom (my grandmother) when I was a little kid (I'm 66 now). Grandma had bad feet but when that tune got played, she kept time by tapping her toes. It had some crazy lyrics to it also. The tag line was ... "I'll get lots more lovin' from a gosh darn dummy. than I'll ever get some you." The magic and medicine that is music.
Clayton Florand thanks for sharing that story. That tune goes by a lot of names. The name that I use is Washington County. I think some people call it washington-lee swing other tunes that are similar are Santa Claus and I think one of the football college uses it for a fight song.
Hi Jerry. I don't play the mandolin but I really enjoy seeing the work you do. I do have a guitar question though. What are your thoughts on humidifiers for acoustic guitars? Are they really useful?
+OddLifeOfDadAndTess my personal opinion is there is a ton of hype associated with humidifying instruments. Obviously the marketing world has made us believe that if you don't humidifier instrument it's going to fall apart. My personal belief is just keep it in an area that you like to be in. For instance your climate controlled house versus your hot attic or a damp basement. In my opinion most instruments sucking too much humidity not expel it. The reason is that when you build an instrument you dry the wood down crazy low. So for most of the rest of its life it's actually drawing in humidity. As they say everybody has one that's mine.
I have some used 1200 da sand paper I use to sand ND the frets. It's free lol and you would be surprised how fast that higher grit paper cuts..also if you fold it and use your nails as a guide you can run it a few strokes the length of the fret and than there is no chance for it to drag .
Rosa String Works I always look jerry. And sometimes the repairs come into my expertise and if I can help you in any way you know I'll do it.cause I like yer work ol buddy.
I learned that any time you level frets your first step is to adjust the truss rod so there’s no relief…perfectly flat. You started by saying it had relief and started leveling???
Howdy... A other great one... I bought Epiphone AJ210CE NA guitar... I Hope it will play solid... Btw., 17,5 milimeters is aprox. 0,7 inches... But 17,5 centimeters would be all right 😎... Am i smart or what?! 😂😂😂 Just kiding, no hard fealings... Greeting from Croatia!
