- Learning the art of Flamenco as a non-Spaniard, who didn't grow up surrounded by that culture, can be a challenge. Discover what it's like to find your own voice and sound as a Flamenco Guitarist navigating in an art form that's from a foreign culture. In this episode, I sit down with Flamenco Guitarist Don Soledad (@DonSoledadGroup) as he shares his remarkable journey from being a drummer to becoming a professional Flamenco guitarist in the USA. He shares his journey. from his approach to how he learned this art form from afar to currently composing original music and performing with his own Flamenco ensemble. If you are an aspiring Flamenco guitarist, and also a foreigner to Spanish culture, this episode offers invaluable advice for those who are early in their journey.
We also discussed his thoughts on Traditional Flamenco vs Contemporary Spanish Pop Guitar music, and he shared how they both shaped his artistry and compositions.

Thanks for listening and for the nice feedback! 👍🏼 That’s the main reason I wanted to start this podcast, to learn about what similarities and differences we may share from these artists. And hopefully learn from their success and failures…

Thanks David and great podcast man congrats!
Thanks for being my guest man! Great to hear your journey into Flamenco and share it with my community… 👌🏼
Tell us more about the flamenco guitar behind you, the one with the maple fretboard
Good eye! 😉 That’s the Córdoba Protege Matiz guitar. It def has an interesting look and unique with the maple fretboard. I made a couple videos about it, as it’s currently my favorite budget friendly beginners guitar choice for that price range. That’s the main reason I got it, to test it out and make sure I could recommend it.
Thanks for the reply, I'm looking for an inexpensive Flamenco as Im a Beginner in Flamenco after playing classical for many years, however I don't want to buy something around the 2k mark just yet, while trying to get the tap and slap of the rumba right@@DavidChiriboga
It was a difficult for me to understand the culture behind what flamenco is and how much distaste it has for people like Ben Woods ,Jesse cook and The great maestro David 😉 I once had a 8 string master flamenco guitarist who will go un named say I told the bum he couldn’t play my guitar at the air port he has no root or compas my response was thanks to that bum I found you and if you have so much skill why not profit from your own creativity then I learned about El Nińo Miguel and it was just heart breaking. I have grown to love flamenco for it’s traditional upkeep and Nuevoflamenco the most for it’s creative concepts it’s a rough scene.
Flamenco culture can be interesting…. I have a love/hate relationship with it. lol. But it depends, because things are changing and there are some very open minded souls that are killer Flamencos. Thanks for checking out the podcast. 👍🏼
