Hi John, thank you for these enhancements. I would like to see a video of how you configured the plumbing in the basin, not much room for elbows and piping in the basin.
We use flex pipe and a union for easy disconnection. From the union we use whatever adapters are necessary to go from the flex pvc to the pump outlet (each is different).
So then you learned something? That makes me so happy! I often wonder if anyone is learning anything from my videos😎 It is kind of you to let me know-have a blessed day!
I added a more powerful pump and changed the hose on my Aquascape stacked slate urn last year. I get much better visual and sound from the fountain now, but I've got to add 10 gallons of water to the darn thing every day! I'm worried that if I supercharge it too much I'll have to add water every hour. Have you ever run into this issue and how did you deal with it? Thanks!
Yes- an auto filler is going to be your best option or a quarter inch auto drip line. Some people do it with the irrigation system. I found this to be the case most of the time too frequent to add water. For this reason, I tell people if you want to use the aqua basin, I consider it to be more of a DIY project. When we do installations now we use aqua blocks and liner so that we can just get more water in the reservoir. it always just comes down to money truthfully, how much someone can spend on a water feature dictates what materials we are able to use and how much labor we can sink into the subgrade work.
@@KoiAddiction ..got it! So it sounds like you solve the problem on your installations by creating a bigger reservoir underneath that needs to be topped off much less frequently and also catches rain. My tiny 15 gallon DecoBasins catch very little rain.
Thank you so much, I’m super excited about the view of the video because we are going to continue to create videos in that exact spot over the course of the next summer and make more sweet content AND I get to enjoy it outside my window😎
Basic Hole saw bit and my cordless drill do the trick, just get the right size bit for the bulk head fitting you acquire! It is a pain to get the hole drilled because there is already a hole in the top of the urn already but tenacity will get you there! Good luck 🤠
This is beautiful! Can you list plumbing supplies, please? I added the small one in my front yard last year, but after seeing your video I want to do this in the middle of my pond as the main feature. This is the first pond I am building on my own. Thank you.
We used a 2” bulk-head fitting then a 2” x 1 1/2” reducer bushing below the lid. The main plumbing going down was 1 1/2” sch 40 PVC with a dry-fit coupler so we could remove the lid (don’t glue it down. There was a 90 elbow in the basin and then we went with flex pvc pipe to an aqua surge 2000 with a low-suction intake ;)
1 1’2” hard pipe down into a 90 elbow in the basin. Then switched over to 1 1/2” flex in basin to the pump. Used one of the fittings from the aquasurge 2000 to make the connection from the 1 1/2’ to pump (it has a union built in)
Great video and very informative! I'm a landscaper in California trying to become certified by Aquascape. I love watching your videos! They're helping me a lot ! I'm installing a water feature with 3 spheres and had some trouble drilling for a bigger size pipe. What type of hole saw do you guys use? Any tips would help me out! Thanks !
I just use a standard holesaw that I bought at Lowe’s. Are use them with my cordless Dewalt drill on high speed and just take my time. The holesaw does have a pilot bit in the center but when you’re drilling over the existing hole it doesn’t help. Typically I just hold the drill at an angle and try to get one side of the bit going it’s a pain to get started but with a little persistence you’ll be able to get her done👍🏻
@@KoiAddiction thanks! We had to go a different route but it worked! Thanks for the quick response and hopefully soon, I'll become a certified aquascape contractor and can meet in one of their events!
Great fountain scape. If I wanted to do a mini urn in a walled planter that is attached to the house that is apx 2 1/2' wide, would an aqua basin fit? The dimensions are not on the website. '
Hi John. Just curious about spillway bowls and winter. If the intent is to leave it run 24/7 all year, do you think there is enough waterflow for it to be ok during long winter seasons?
Short Sleeve we don’t have enough of a real winter here for me to be able to answer that question for you but I guarantee you AquaScape tech department will steer you right on that👍🏻
True story! I just installed the old lights from this fountain into the reservoir fountain in our Oasis. Have you checked out the videos on that yet? It is a crazy build!!

Very cool. I'm not even that big a fan of the urns and I still could see that in my backyard... or front yard even.
Yea Im with you. Not My favorite feature but they have their place. Stacked slate are the only ones I really like though
Great stuff! How did you plumb/attach the PVC pipe to the pump?

Nice. I always thought that the pot is filled with water

Wow, fountain upgrade on steroids! Love it
Get busy-time to do some add ons to your fountain now?
Great Job! Very creative! You took it from nice to look at for a second to I wanna park myself here for many hours!!
Thanks, I kind of felt the same :-)
Drilling lights into the urn is genius
Bill Seeds It really wasn’t my idea, I learned it from Aquascape Inc. but 🙏
Great video
Thanks! 3 years later LOL!!
Amazing
I figured I should answer (after 2 years LOL)
Instead of a bulkhead could you just silicone in the 1 1/2 pipe on the top?

Great example of a basic model transformed to a supercharged show stopper!
Looks great man!
Thanks Tanner😎
Awesome video!! Thanks John!!
3 years later but just as much love!! Thanks for being a subscriber to us!!
@@KoiAddiction lol!!! Much love my man!
Where did you purchase the urn and the lights and pump
Aquascapeinc.com
I really like what you did with the rock work around the fountain!!
Thanks! 3 years later LOL!!
Hello,
Can this same plumbing be done with the small urn, if so what size pump do you recommend?
Thanks
You can crank up the plumbing on any of the features as long as you have a large enough basin to collect your splash.
A fantastic video showcasing the enhancements upgrade. Makes you just wanna get out there and build. Excellent information, John.
Thanks! 3 years later LOL!! We should answer sooner eh??
Nice job John! 4 cylinder to a V8 👍🏻🤙
Thanks! 3 years later LOL!! I am always comparing to cars…
Great before and after video. Looks fantastic!
You still with us after 2 years?
Great video John !

very nice video, you should add affiliate links in your description to see the exact pvc parts needed and links to the pump parts for this upgrade
Two years later I am still not doing that LOL! Hope you are well out there ;)

im curious how you connected the hard pipe to the aquasurge pump reliably - i had issues on mine using the included fittings

How you gonna seal around the light🙄thanks
We drill very tight hole and simply silicone around the fixture after its recessed in😎Its a nice fit and looks very clean.
