We get some big logs for poplar beech spruce Some for red pine white pine and soft maple. Other species are very small need to cut 350 logs to get anything done lol. But we have had some good days with spruce

Good to see you back in the chair and cutting up once more. Do know if this batch of wood is going for commercial size or heavy duty pallets?

I’m always in the chair lol. These are just commercial use but when we were cutting beech we were making stringers for boxes of whiskey to go on. Right now the soft maple we are cutting this week is for a custom order 4x4s. 97” that get profiled. For drying bundles of lumber that leave no stain

What do you do with the lumber you are sawing?

So all our lumber any 5/4 that we cut all the 5/4 poplar pine spruce gets ripped into 1 3/8x 1 3/8. They have us saw the 5/4 1 3/8 then gets turned into pointed garden stakes for farmers then the 5/4 beech. And soft maple gets made into patented stickers for kiln and air drying lumber called breeze dried sticks. And the 5/4 beech and soft maple 2 and 3 common. Also get made into pointed garden stakes some customers want hardwood and some want softwood probably depends if your re using them or how hard the ground is

It’s all air dried on the breeze dried sticks

We changed manifold for carriage yesterday. Forward pressure was 2800 and. Reverse pressure was 1200. Somthing must have broke inside. So now both pressure are just a touch over 3000 so it’s working great now.

Looked like several different lengths in this video, was that for a specific order, or...?
Thanks for explaining the circular vs. band when working with poorly debarked logs. I'd have never thought of that.

We were cutting 2 7/8 X 2 7/8. 48” and 42”. So the 8 12 and 16ft logs we cut the 48s and the 7 10 and 14s. We cut the 42” Band saws are great because they waste less wood the saw kerf is less but bandsaw are difficult and don’t like dirt bandsaws are the Divas of the sawmill world. But circular saws cut dirty crap all day long without ever slowing down. But they waste a tiny bit more wood because they take a larger bite every cut but there is nothing that really stops them like the Energizer bunny lol
