- Another Atco's Collections Video - As I collect things into my game room about 1960s era, I had to have a few Toys and Games of things that I played with growing up. Here's my small collections. See ya -- Atco
I loved the licorice Smith Brother’s cough drop! Can’t find them anymore.
I remember using the Testors Paints. Id build cars, trucks, and the Monsters! I would paint first before I d glue together.
Id even try spray paint!
I had that labrynth and I don't think I ever made it all the way around. But I would still play with it from time to time.
We used to eat the Smith Bros cough drops like candy.
I don't know what they put in them, but the cherry flavor was so strong. Yeh, we all ate 'em as candy more often than cough drops. -- Atco
Yup, I was a paper boy. The Star Ledger. Those were awesome. Still even buy cherry soda now.
Wonder if anyone ever figured out if there was actual medicine in those cough drops? They were delicious.
We could eat in school because it was supposed to be medicine. A great excuse to have candy in class.
We got the Aurora Model Motoring set for Xmas in the early 60s came with 2 cars, a 50 something Jag 2 seater conv. and a 59 T-Bird.
When I think of any best toy that I had as a kid, it's that Aurora set I had. We put the track on top of the ping pong table. I had that Jag model too, and a few others that I thought would be cool to have again with my new slot car layout. I went to a slot car show in Baltimore last year. There were tons and tons of cars, but since my current slot car set is a life-like and using the bigger cars than the original Aurora T-Jet, I could not find those on my size. Still, picked up a few anyways. I'll have to see when the next show comes in with. -- Atco
I still have my original magic eight ball which I got for my 8th birthday (I am 60 now) ! When you showed your magic eight ball and talked about the answers it gives, reminded me of Ouija boards. I used to really like the Smith Brothers black licorice cough drops, but to me they tasted like candy.

Hi Atco...Cool games! My era for models was the late 60s / early 70s when I would build Aurora "monster" models: wolfman, Frankenstein, the mummy, etc. Aurora also made a "cave people / dinosaur" series as well. I so remember all of those "Testor" paints and glue...After inhaling all of those paint/ glue fumes, I'm surprised we're here today! I also loved my View Master with all the circular slides...especially my slides with the current T.V. shows of the day: Beverly Hillbillies, Family Affair, Green Acres :--) Good memories! (Mario)
Hi Mario - Wow... I had forgotten those "monster" kits. I do remember them now! That's funny about that glue. Yeah, we made a lot of models using that stuff and glued our fingers together during it. So many of the toys we had would be banned today, with all those small parts and sharp points on everything. Yet, some how we made it thru our years! See ya -- Atco

I remember those toys well, Atco. I think we're close to the same age. I never could get the hang of Etch-A-Sketch either but more artistic people than myself can really draw some amazing pictures with them. I had some of these same toys but didn't have the good sense to take care of them. I could kick myself. Thank you for taking us back to a more simple time. The 50s and 60s were really special. Hi Steve - Yeah, I remember even when we were kids, some of those kids could draw great pictures with a Etch-a-Sketch. I just never had that talent. I didn't keep any of my toys from growing up, but it sure has been great to get them back from someone off Ebay! See ya buddy -- Atco
i googled Etch a sketch once for images. Some people are real artists with those
I remember those days, too. I had the Lost in Space robot, marbles, racing slot cars (of various sizes) and pop guns. It was a wonderful time.
Hi Brian - Guess we all let go of things we had at one time. It's nice though to pick up again a few of your favorites that we had lost. Last year I went to an antique toy store and picked up 3 little 4-5" models of robots made from those old sci-fi movies. I got a Robbie, Gort, and the Lost in Space robots. Got 'em on my PC with some other vintage toys! See ya -- Atco
Great to c the Testors paint. Completely forgot about it until u showed it. Had the same slot car track, well it was my dad’s, & we had 4 cars , 2 of which were the Batmobile & the Green Hornet cars
I haven't touched my slot car setup for almost 2 years. It will be brought back running again soon. Keep an eye on my channel. See ya -- Atco
You make me feel old. Toys were metal when I was a kid. We had some small plastic toys from Taiwan and maybe Japan. Balsa planes were fun.
It's funny, I got a couple little toys from my youth that I keep on the side of my desk. Seems that anybody who sits next to me picks up the slinky. Some know what it is, and some don't. Yet, everyone picks it up! See ya == Atco

Hi Atco. I remember all that stuff. I did have a slot car track at one time,but I mostly remember playing with my Hot Wheels cars and track. Ya know we would sword fight with those plastic tracks lol. Had a lot of fun with those. I have one of those Laberynth games too. Thanks for sharing. Im behind on watching videos.---Colin

I remember the mould toys like Creepy Crawlers and such. My brother did the models but had no artistic ability so I would paint them...lol. He had the planes with the stickers too. Barbies were my love, I had 5 at one point, including the one with the pull out hair. I remember my Whizzer top and my Hula hoop, my 8 ball and Spirograph. Most of all I remember playing outside, building tree forts and having clubs with the neighbor kids. My father and my best friends dad built us a play house on the property line, it had real windows (my father was a contractor) and a lock on the door. We played in that for years. I pity today's kids, wrapped in cotton fluff from fear.
Boy, you're right on that Scarlet. It's funny, I see 10-15 kids going to the school bus on the street. Where do those kids come from? Never see them with bikes or nothing. I guess kids today just play with Xbox all day. No one goes outside. Sounds like you have some great memories of your youth! See ya -- Atco

As a boy growing up in the '60's I like you and so many had toys like the slot cars, Etch-A-Sketch and the Testor's paint kits for my models and like mrob75 mostly built the Aurora monster's model kits. Indeed, I had the Guillotine model until just a few years ago. I do still have my all original Lionel train set I was given for Christmas in 1965. You brought back many memories of toys I had such as slot cars and many I never got but always coveted such as astronaut Major Matt Mason. A great video.
Hi RPM - That is cool that you kept your Lionel Train set from the 60s! I had one of those, but let it go years ago. I did sell my Aurora set in the 70s, thought I had grown out of it. Boy, do I wish I had kept that now! There's almost nothing in my game room that I had kept from growing up. It was only about 2006 that I started to turn an un-used living room into my game room to bring back some of those memories. So with Ebay, Craigslist, and Yard Sales... it's been fun to hunt for some of that nostalgia back again. See ya -- Atco
Yep..I put together the AMT Model car kits as well as Revelle. Revelle kits were more detailed in the number of parts. My first paint job was done by a brush but my uncle was into kits to and turned me on to using spray paint. My first model was a 64 Thunderbird that I painted blue with a brush.
Those were sure popular to us as kids. I brought my 10 year old nephew one day to visit. Knowing he was coming, I bought a model car kit and all the paints and stuff. Thought we'd have fun building one together. Well, we opened it up, but he got bored with it within 10 minutes. Had no interest in it. He did bring his Xbox with him, and spent a lot of time on his smartphone instead. Yeah, it's a different era now. Oh well... heck, I'd probably do the same if I was a kid today. See ya -- Atco

I remember vividly the etch-a-sketch. They told me to draw a circle with it and I was out for hours, wonder if kids would do the same today. Always like your vids. Memories are the hot-water bag for our soul :)

There was also " Ludens" honey/lemon soft chewy(Gummi like) "cough" drops they came in a brownish box like Smith bros.
Remember using the original Aurora slot car controller with the wheel.
At Burning Man one year a theme camp built giant replicas of 60s games like Labyrinth and Operation! And a bunch of others. It was a lot of fun and a nice stroll down memory lane.

No Incredible Edibles where kids would make bugs and spiders and eat them? Well, I never got that as a kid either.
I had that same type of Aurora race car set with the steering wheel and a figure 8 track. Some of the cars would generate sparks from the electrical connection. Also played with the Labyrinth game as well. The Smith Bros. had a different flavor of cough drops that I used to really like -- had forgotten about them till now.

By the way I had eveything you showed including the Aurora HO set. We had several cars, 58' T-Bird, 60 Corvette, mid 50s Jag xke, later bought a 73 Javelin for it it the early 70s. We got the set probably around 62 or 63' for Xmas. Correction, never had the Simon though.

2:50 Definitely had that. Can you recall if the tracks were held together with pins and clips? I remember busting a lot of plastic clips. My father also picked-up some "Hop-Up" kits with spare tires, little brushes for the rotor inside the car, spare magnets and maybe(?) a few extra clips to hold the tracks together. Lionel trains we had too; Dad was our 'enabler'. ;-) Our father would assist my younger brothers and me with any technical problems but I'm sure Dad got a kick out of watching his sons play with the toys (speaking of the Lionel trains here) he remembered from his childhood.
Hi Tralfaz - If I reall, the Aurora T-jet track used two pins and a metal clip for each connection. My tracks were pretty tought. I don't remember having trouble with the tracks breaking. Now my current Life-Like track have broken for me. I sure had fun with them as a kid, and have the chance to setup a track again! See ya -- Atco

The Etch-A-Sketch and Magic 8 Ball were staples of my childhood in the 70's. I used to have hours of fun with those toys. I don't remember Fizzies or those cherry-flavored drops though. I imagine they were discontinued before the 70's rolled around.
I still got a full size Etch-A-Sketch. It amazes me how talent people are on drawing things from it. I never could do much with it, but still it was a lot of fun. See ya -- Atco
I WISH I STILL HAD ALL MY MODEL CARS AND PLANES !
I had about 10 model cars around my room as a kid and like most of us I thought I could let them go once I got older. Funny how you never really forget those toys you had a a kid, and as I started my game room 7 or 8 years ago I kinda wanted to bring 'em back. I've found maybe half of them, but for the others they've never been reissued. I had some planes too, although wasn't into the planes as much as I was in the cars. But in my game room there are 4 WWII planes hanging from the ceiling. Some due to my remembering of having them, and also I put those out to remember my father-in-law who used to fly those planes. -- Atco
Fizzies were great. One made a glass of pop. Root beer was most popular.

My old original Etch a sketch got smashed with a hammer about 5 years ago. I was at the top of the steps and dropped a hammer over the railing by accident and landed right on the EaS that was sitting right below on the coffee table and completely shattered it. I was pissed.
Hi Matrox - You know, I've never got the hang of those things. Oh, I'd play with 'em as a kid, make lots of circles and lines, but could not make anything that made any sense out of my drawings. I remember ALL of those things, also I liked Smith Brothers cough drops too, we used to take them to school but the Teacher caught on and took them from us, and keep them in her desk! We had to ask permission, and she would give us one! Lol 👍👍
Hi Mike - remember back in the 60s it seemed to be a new cereal to try every couple weeks. Fruit loops, Capt Crunch, Coco Rice Krisbies and etc. They're all still in the grocery markets today! See ya -- Atco

One time my Mom bought a box of Lucky Charms for me, my Sister and Brother to share, and I got up extra early on a Saturday morning, poured all the ceral into a large bowl, and took out all the marshmallows and ate them! I put the rest of the ceral back in the box and when my siblings got up and poured a bowl and discovered no marshmallows they started complaining to my Mom, who figured out just what happened!
I was punished, I had to spend the rest of the day in my room! Lol🍜

We had the HO scaled cars back in the 60's. Lots of fun taking the cars a part, switching bodys. I remember we used a pencil eraser to
clean the traction bars underneath, there were two.. Shown in the video 3:36 I m not sure what they were called? And we would always be making the track bigger, adding slopes, hills, sharp curves. Never got into slot cars.
A friend had that Labyrinth game and we played the heck out of it. I never saw anyone beat it that I can remember.
I never saw this game played lots of Chinese checkers tho and enjoyed my etch a schth

I remember having some of these in '70s like the etch-a-sketch and the marble maze game. I used to have a race track back in the '70s called TCR it had two race cars and a jam car that went slower that the other two to get in you way. I also that 8-ball in the '70s too.

Hi Trip - Some of those games of the 60s were super! You can still buy one today, with many other models of it. I keep one on my game room table. Almost anyone visiting will play with it. Might just give it a few tries, but still you can't not go pass it without playing. It's a fun game! See ya -- Atco

It's amazing that some of those popular games of the 60s are still for sale on the shelves at Walmart or Target. Don't have to pay $300 video control just to get a kid's attention. See ya -- Atco

I love your videos,I have an old Mattel Vac-U-form from 1962 that I love Do you remember those? it was for molding insects and plastic toys..I was amazed at the deal you got on your Edison Ambrola with all the records for $75.oo that was the steal of the century..Keep up the great videos and hopefully you will do more repair type videos....
Hi Lloyd - Wow, I do remember those Vac-U-forms now that you mention it. I haven't seen or heard of one of those for 40 years. That's the cool thing about people's collections... when you hear or see something you haven't seen for so long, it is fun to remember those memories! That's a nice piece you have!I rarely buy things just to resell. I buy my items to put into my own collections that makes me happy. But some things do get found that are better then an item I already have. So in that case a few items land up on my own YardSale, Craigslist or Ebay. I got a couple of those to get rid of currently. Few things will need to be fixed though. Anything worth while, I'll put out a video of the repair.I did really luck out on that Amberola (model 75). I bought another (model 30) last summer that also had 40 cylinders with it for $100. It does need some work though. That's a project I plan to work on soon. Thanks for your comment Lloyd! -- Atco
Yeh we got the Vac U Form for Xmas probably 1965. No way in hell would the govt allow that to be sold today. It heated up as hot as an oven so you could melt the plastic. Sure we all got burned so we learned not to get burned again. It was how we learned. I think my brother still has it in his storage shed.

Dear Atco, I've been trying to find information about a toy that I desperately wanted as a child, but my parents refused to buy it for me. I don't remember who the manufacturer was or what it was called. It was a plastic console that was designed like the control panel of a spaceship and it had a display in the center at the top that displayed what looked like the output of an oscilloscope. You could control the way this looked with some hand controls and you put a disc into it that would change the shape on the display. I've looked at so many videos about vintage toys that my head is spinning and I just can't find anything about this toy. I was hoping that maybe you might know something about it? I hope you do because this is driving me crazy! Thanks! By the way, I loved your video. I'm 59 and I too had a lot of the same toys. It brought back some great memories.
Hi Steve - We lived in the same era. Yeah, there were toys that friends had and I never did. And some that I did, but had to leave them when we moved to an apartment. Over time I always wished I had those things again. I guess that's what got me started with setting up my game room. So many of those things are now back to me. May not play with them much, but seems to have filled a spot in my memory again and makes me feel comfortable having them in my game room. Now about your toy... We had a lot of Jets and Space stuff toys in the 60s. Not sure that I remember yours, but I do remember one called Jimmy Jet. It was like a console for a jet fighter. I might even had one, or at least played with one from another kid. I think it was made by a company called Remco, but I'm not real sure about that. Good luck on your quest! See ya -- Atco

Your collection is really great! I looked up Jimmy Jet and that's not what I'm looking for. This was basically just a plastic panel with some switches and knobs that moved, and in the middle it had a screen that displayed an oscilloscope. You could change the waveform it displayed by replacing a small disc. It wasn't more complicated than that. I can see why my parents didn't want to spend money on it because it didn't really do much of anything. But I thought it was cool.
No, it's not Johnny Spacemobile. I'm still looking. Apparently it wasn't very popular because no one seems to have it.
I gave my grandmother a fizzie orange or cherry I think and told her it was a mint it was bubling on her tongue

iamrichrocker Hi Rich - Well, I guess my game room is a bit of a time machine for me, or at least from a mind stand point. I had one of those Aurora slot sets as a kid and beat the heck out of it. I found a box of parts for someone's set just last year for $20. It actually had enough parts to put up a full track. Had 2 controls, good power adapter, just need to get some cars. The cars go pretty high on Ebay when they are working good. I'm in no rush, and I'll see if I ever run into one. Not sure if the wife would let me keep the track up for very long in the dining room anyways We'll see what happens up in the yard sales and Craigslist trips coming up. See ya -- Atco

4:30 those controllers were junk . The way to use them was to turn on full speed and use the brake as the control . At the start they had the vibrating motors and were intended to be like a train set . I did not take long for the kids to race them against each other Some thing you can not do with a train . Also when a car fell off the track it was not a 5 minute job to rerail them ........... I think Lionel could have cornered the market Lionel already had the market and reputation to promote them. Might be a result of bad management. It is possible Aurora was a newer company and was more willing to go into new tech Lionel did make some HO car sets but were scarce like Atlas and Tyco
