Took me soooo long to finally find a friend group in VRC, for the longest time I'd just walk around for 2 hours and get off without having interacted with anyone, or just drink with random people but never acc make proper friends, but now that I have I've become low key addicted to this game aha. I have noticed it genuinely help my social anxiety irl too, which is great.

That's incredible!! I'm so sorry that it took so long to find those proper friends, I know how lonely those hours alone can be, especially in VR :c But I'm so happy you were able to hang in there and get some wonderful experiences out of it

As someone that has been playing this game for nearly 5 years it's so refreshing to see your videos about it. I sometimes forget how beautiful VRChat really can be with how many awful experiences I've personally had but you give me hope to keep looking for the right people to befriend!

I absolutely relate to your experience. I've had really bad, mediocre, and good experiences, and I know that unfortunately for a lot of people then they only get to experience the first two before they give up in vrchat. But when you get to those good ones and get those first amazing friends, then it really all becomes soo worth it

I genuinely wanna thank you for making this video. I had problems with social anxiety all my life but because i was exposed to it in the real world so often, i kind of grew accustomed to it and put myself in situations where i wouldnt experience that anxiety and i just kind of tapered it off and i thought i was fine. But after trying VRchat, that visceral fear of talking to people sprung up and made me have multiple panic attacks and made me realize i still very much do fear social interaction with people. I only really played it with friends because i was terrified of going in alone, but this video really opened up ways for me to safely approach the game in a way that i can enjoy it, even alone. Thank you, seriously.

I do want to fight against my social anxiety, so i'm trying vr chat a little by little. But i'm struggling so much to fit in to be honest. I just cant start a conversation, even when i find nice people to talk, my anxiety kicks in and i either run away or stay silent in the corner TwT

  • @keeshuunedited5678

Just passing through 'cuz I love seeing videos like this.
I used to have massive anxiety myself, but since the subconscious part of my brain is thoroughly tricked by VR, it feels like I'm actually there. So I basically had a proper way to do exposure therapy to remove my anxiety, and now I don't have problems talking to people IRL because of that now. IRL was always too much for me, and often times made anxiety worse everytime I tried to do exposure therapy. Being able to swap worlds helps wonders. When I was new, I was lucky that there were some game worlds where you can be around people, but if you went around a corner to do something related to the game, no one would be an eye, thus I could calm down. Being in game worlds long enough, and people get bored and chatty until they decide to take the conversations to a more relaxing world.
Been in VR for a while, so it's always weird to think there was a time where I was a wallflower to the extreme, and often would hide around the corners because my breathing would get hard, and muscles start cramping. Now I'm just always in the middle of everyone, and I actually feel comforted by people as opposed to feeling discomfort being near them.
I remember getting motion sick first time getting into VR. I highly recommend new players to sit down when first playing because everytime I'd move it felt like a treadmill was suddenly starting everytime I moved. When you get your "VR legs" then start standing and stuff because it's a better experience that way.
9:17 I find this absolutely hilarious because I wasn't expecting this to come up. I never really tried to go full on into furry stuff most of my life since I grew up trying to be that hardcore (yet polite) gamer. No matter what game I'd play, the best friends I met were 9/10 times be a furry, and I just kept telling myself it was just a coincidence and shrugged it off. When VRChat came around, I stopped being insecure about a lot of things because I met enough people willing to actually talk (whereas other video games, and even activities IRL , the focus is always on the objective, so you don't get to know anyone really). On top of that, furry stuff is gonna be on the mind because they are using furry avatars as well (and I've always liked being anything non-human in video games for something different since I'm human 24/7 IRL. Whether it be furry, a robot or whatever else. So I join in on using furry avatars). Yet again furries still being awesome people, so I pretty much just accept my furry fate at this point. I haven't specifically gone to LGBT type groups, but it does feel like there's a lot of overlap with furries sometimes.

Also as soon as you said “queer people and furries” I subscribed haha
Whenever someone expresses distain for furries, I immediately know we’re not going to get along very well because I don’t feel safe around people who judge me for my more unique interests. I’m also not a furry (allegedly haha) but I have so many friends who are and they’re truly on average one of the best groups of people.

It was entertaining the whole way through in a way that I haven't seen other videos do in a while. Also, I think the script (or the way you went about the conversation if there wasn't one) was some of your best yet :3

@@ScribblyHoots Wow, thanks! Honestly, nothing I could think of for this video. I meant it when I said it felt like one of your most solid ones from my perspective. If there was anything off, or that could be improved on, it's not something I could notice myself as a viewer here. I'll keep it in mind for future videos though :3
From a technical perspective it might be worth considering the sweater for green screen footage; I didn't find the opacity distracting, spotting it was funny, and honestly that sweater rules and I'd love to see it again, but I'd totally understand it if some people had a different reaction to the opacity. Just something to keep in mind and make your own choice on.
I feel like you have a unique style you've developed over the years based on what you genuinely like to see and make, and it's very satisfying to watch that. More than anything else, I'd say just keep following that, even if your interests shift over time.

When I watched your vr video where you followed that one person and walked on that one bridge pole thing, my mind LITERALLY WENT TO "Shrek! I'm lookin down!", ig our brains are on the same wavelength lol.
    Also, I started playing this a bit ago, and uhh I'll be honest, I HAVE YET TO PLAY OUTSIDE OF A PRIVATE WORLD. ;U;
It's because, well... again, like I've said before, interaction AT ALL is my biggest weakness, like even just talking to friends on disc, without even using a mic or anything, makes me worried about annoying them.
Also, I do sometimes start feeling a bit sick after a while, and then I have to quit and lay down for like 20 minutes.
I also don't have much room, so uh, yknow.
And those are just THREE of the reasons, but if you aren't me and you can actually enjoy it, then that's great. :D

I think that it's a wonderful thing especially for socially anxious folks, that there's still a bit of a shield of anonymity with VRChat. It's why I think it could be a great tool to help get used to socializing when the real thing is still too uncomfortable.
Sadly, then there are bunches of people that use that tiny bit of anonymity as an excuse to harrass people :c So it really depends on the public world you end up in, but there are definitely really good ones out there, where you can just sit down and have cool conversations with strangers

Despite playing VrChat for three years (Quest only), you've gone far more in-depth then me about learning the game as whole. For a large chunk of the earlier years I've always just been get on VRC, playing something like Murder 4 and as long as I'm outgoing and social, occasionally I'd make friend, turn off headset and repeat; and overall it was good time. Seems you've had a lot more windows and opportunity for moments like 8:28 which I recognize as the peak of VrChat as I always hold close to my heart that the best type of VrChat players are those that are chill but are serious or mature when needed.
As for my piece as long time player, honestly it doesn't seem as in depth as Scribbs but I'll drop in my two cents anyways. The factor that probably determines if a person regrets discovering and playing VrChat is the amount of toxicity they're exposed to which tends to happen alot in friends and relationships. From my personal experience, if you're in friend groups (always avoided relationships which is probably a good thing), dramas, tension, and breakups are common not in quantity but as in they'll eventually happen and depending on chemistry, they can easily destroy connections with most groups only lasting like maybe a year at max. Do not get involved with that stuff regardless of intention unless you know what you're doing otherwise you might make things worst or people will get angry at you. And personally I feel like I was pretty careful with how or who I opened up out of caution of dramas and toxicity but still got the short end of the stick. If you're ever in the situation, prevention is obviously important but I hope you have something for recovery whether it's by yourself or with others cause they're always going to happen eventually the longer you play this game.
Despite of the message I'm seemingly conveying, I've suffered alot of traumas on that platform but I still don't regret discovering this game that much. While Scribbs has found solutions to his social anxiety and lack of fellow LGBTQ+ people to relate with (honestly there's alot of those here in VRC with two of my VRC best friends being trans), I value the emotional and mental maturity I've grown with being in this game from experiencing a whole spectrum of people to just finding moments I truly appreciate like 8:28 or finding people who like me for who I am.
I've quitted and stopped being an active player in VRC when someone opened my eyes about this game not being a positive part of my life anymore and that fact that I feel like I've experienced all that VRC had to offer to the point that dramas feel like replay of ones from the past. Now I just play VRC to hang out with the small handful of friends on Discord that have still stuck with me even after all this time and they're people I truly cherish and won't fizzle out as easily or never like most of my friends. VrChat is an era of the past but like I said I've experienced most that this game has to offer so meaning that I've gotten alot of the good of VRC and now I can just walk off with it. Besides, I'm in college and I don't have as much free time as before during highschool or junior high but it was definitely a one of a kind and unique experience for what it was. There's probably more I could talk about but this comment is already long enough (Though I'd love to be guides for beginners if given the chance).
Btw for like 2.5 years I've been maining an avatar of my Touhou best girl Koishi Komeiji. I've never been fanboy of anything but after finding Touhou, she's been my Sailor Moon, Justin Bieber, etc. I like cute things :)
