EXCELLENT! Numbers in Mandarin Chinese are soooooo different than English. I have been teaching English in Taiwan for several years. I always feel empathy for my students when learning numbers.
Now I started learning Mandarin and I got a test tomorrow but I know my listening is bad and I watched this video and I think I may have a great score! You're the best Mandarin teacher tysm for that!
10000 only be read as yíwàn, 1000 only be read as yìqiān, 10 in a big number only be read as yīshí, 100 in a big number can be read as yìbǎi or yī bǎi, but if a number starting with 100, it's only read as yìbǎi.
Helpful videos like this in addition to more practice with serious learners could eventually lead to speaking and understanding Chinese even if you've never been to China. So please guys if you also have the enthusiasm of practicing why not hit me up let's start when both of us are abit free for time waits for none. ❤😅
I can almost understand Chinese now because of watching chinese animated and donghua daily... I happen to know about numbers because of auction in those Donghuas 😅😅😅😅
@@EverydayChinese someone from a different channel suggests the student should know Chinese characters by HSK3, and there is no point to continue further if you don't. My question is, is that harsh or is that true!?!
in fact, we say 120580 as shíèr wān líng wúbǎi bā, strictly, it's shíèr wān líng wúbǎi bāshí. nobody say the first yi in this number expect someone wan to emphasize and the 3rd tone is ǎ not â
I ate a meal in Taiwan and after collecting the food the shop owner said "yi bai ba". I thought it was 180 and gave 180. While eating the meal I realized that there is not such a number. Is it a colloqial way say "yi bai ba shi? I asked the Shop owner after my meal if it was 108 but she insisted she didn't mean yi bai ling ba. Did she fool me in letting my mistake happen or did she actually mean 180 and just said it simplified?
in fact 一百八means 108 in ancient Chinese, but rencent Chinese it just mean 180. for simply, we often silent the last shi, bai, qian, wan if it's a integer

nIce Explained
Interesting that 101 is 一百零一 when you could just say 一百一 and you could figure out the number from context without explicitly saying 零
that's the same thought I had!
一百一 means One hundred and ten, simplified from 一百一十
and if you say 54,000, you can say 五万四(千 can be simplify), 50400五万零四百. 50040五万零四十. 50004五万零四
please hsk4 test . i hope u make it
I will make it in the future.
英文里面没有万这个概念,学英文的时候也让我花了一定时间来理解thousand million billion trillion的用法
其实就是单位大小不一样,中文是万进制,英语是千进制
Sister you said that 2 - er then why does it become lingqian in 2000...I couldn't understand it can you help me with it... I'm a newcomer
-120580-yīshíèr wān líng wúbâi bāshí

In spoken Chinese, we just simply say /yi bai ba/for 180.

I thought that when there's a 1st tone before a 2nd tone ("yī -shí"), the 1st tone changes to a 4th tone, or is this just for counting numbers..?
邓老师,请说我的回答对不对?
120,580:十二万零五百八十
56,789:五万六千七百八十九
30,805:三万零八百零五
76,000:七万六千
1,000,000:一百万
哇,你太棒了,全都对!
