  • Done a couple of upgrades to the Harley Benton TV Yellow Special to give it a fighting chance against the Gibson Les Paul Special Tribute.
I have changed the Nut for a bone nut from Vanson and replaced the bridge which made a huge difference. Will give it a few days for the strings to stretch etc before I upload the comparison video between the two.

Now that's got my attention, because I intend to keep the Harley and use it as a mod platform, so I will check that company out, I am grateful for that tip. Cheers buddy 👍 👌

I really can't tell much difference between cheap and dear any more, the differences are small and subtle given the massive price difference, I always get bored of guitars whether they cost buttons or a fortune. another great vid.

I agree, the gap is very small between cheap and expensive, which is a good if you are on a budget. cheers for the feedback.

I look forward to the in depth comparison. I have a hb 450 + & think it's a good sounding budget guitar approx £160 but and this may sound crazy, I just bought a s/h Sunn Mustang Strat, made in India, early 80s and it sounds really good, surprisingly warm sound, especially on the neck pickup. I'm not sure what make the pickups are but they maybe old Maxon! Gave it a good clean up new set of strings, set up. I think a decent amplifier makes a big difference to the sound, especially with a budget guitar, that and obviously the players ability level. I personally have started to trust my ear more than the headstock brand. Lemuel if you come across the above mentioned strat, treat yourself, you will not be disappointed. 🎸

I Had one, so your speaking to the converted, and your right about never trust your eyes but your ears.a guitar can be a great guitar regardless on whats on the headstock.

Nice video mate . If you are ever in search of a different tone(s) , try Tonerider pickups . You are in the U.K. ( I assume ) , and Tonerider is an English company . I put a Rebel 90 humbucker-sized P90 in a Maestro by Gibson Les Paul Jr. - £40 quid , I found a Starcaster Strat by Fender and put Alnico II Blues pickups in - £70 quid , I also found a Made in Korea Telecaster by Fender and put in Alnico II Blues pickups - £60 quid . All three are Alnico II pickups as I like that tone on all of my guitars ( The price is for the set(s) NOT 1 pickup , but the entire set ) What I’m saying is , you don’t have to spend a lot , to get a lot . ✊🏾 ( P.S. The U.S. based distributor didn’t have the telecaster pickups wired for a 4-way switch when I ordered it . I emailed Tonerider and they responded quickly and even agreed to offer to send me a neck pickup with the extra ground wire installed for FREE ! Didn’t even ask for the other pickup . Told me to keep it , sell it or do whatever I like with it . 😳 Now that my friend is GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE ! )

I have a HB TE-52 tele clone. Similarly replaced the plastic nut for a bone one, and the saddles for "intonated" brass ones - and made a huge improvement to the tone and resonance of the guitar. Total upgrade investment, £21 and a bit of time. Will be very interested to see how your upgrades to the HB LP special have worked out for you.

Yes, Steve, it's not a lot of money you spent to make a good guitar great, well done.
      Cheers for your comment.
