  • Hey Knights! Welcome to our first-time watching The Strangers (2008) reaction. Spooky season is here and what better to celebrate than a heart-pounding home invasion horror film that will give us the chills!? This film did such a great job with the way it was able to keep the tension throughout and let us dwell in the psychological terror of it all. Once the creepy masked strangers make their appearance the film takes you on a thrilling and nerve-racking ride.
"The Strangers" tackles the story of what would happen if 3 masked intruders went into your vacation home and started to terrorize you. The couple in this film played by Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman both gave a fantastic performance that conveyed the sense of dread, hopelessness and true fear.
We hope you enjoy our reactions, commentary and discussion as we talk about the films strongest points like what makes it so terrifyingly effective, it's incredible soundtrack and all the different elements that makes "The Strangers" the perfect movie to watch this Halloween!

So I know this reaction is from a while ago but I just have to share.
This came out in 2008. I think I saw it in the theater. In January 2009 I moved into my first adult living situation with my boyfriend and some roommates. They took me to see the house and then took off to get dinner or something. I was alone, it was late, and the house was very much in the middle of nowhere. No tv, no internet, no phone. I was a smoker at the time, and I stepped out on the porch for a smoke. Looking out on the front yard, I noticed the trees in the yard were eerily reminiscent of the yard in this movie. In the distance, I saw a car pass on the main road. My heart started racing, I tried to stay calm, went inside, and locked the door. I checked all the doors and windows and waited hours for my bf (at the time) to come back.
This movie and that experience combined completely traumatized me 😅

Loosely based on a true story about the Charles Manson Murders. It even happened to the director or one of the writers on this film, when they were kids, as someone broke into their house.

It was also based on another murder, the Keddie Cabin murders. And from what I remember, the writer/director had an experience as a child in which a stranger rang his doorbell. He later found out this person had been looking for houses to rob in that neighborhood but left his alone since he was at home. He did a great job of weaving these together to play on real life fears.

I also thought it didn’t make sense that the killers (the female killer, anyway) let the evangelist boys SEE HER FACE (she even went out of her way to do so, asking them for a pamphlet) when they were just a stone’s throw away from the crime scene, and the killers would’ve expected it to be likely that the boys would be finding the crime scene.
…So the good news is: Hopefully the killers will be caught eventually, since the evangelist boys and the girl who survived will be witnesses.

    • @TheCourtsOfLove
      @TheCourtsOfLove 7 месяцев назад +3

It's heavily implied this kill was Dollface's first, an initiation into the group, we can see this by the way she acts, she to is nervous when she speaks and doesn't stay around too long, it's awkward creepy (Also if you compare it to Prey at Night) Another point of evidence to support this is after, Pin-up says to Dollface "It'll be easier next time." Dollface seems to be a little regretting what she just did, or at the very least shaken and in that state of shock.
The masks they were also allude to a hierarchy, Man in Mask never speaks is a cold domineering presence, Pin-Up carries herself assuringly & Well practiced, her mask to is more serious.
Then you have Dollface, a shy weak voice behind a child-like mask. This interpretation potentially puts Pin-Up Girl's comment that it will be "easier" next time into context. Dollface's struggle with the acts she has committed is further implied by her interactions with the Mormon boys. She's a sinner, and she's a little shaken up by what she's just done. But next time, it won't be her first rodeo.

Imagine having to already deal with things not working out and your girl saying no to when you asked to marry her, but then you have to fight for your life against these people who wanna do you harm and the fact that you accidently killed your best friend.
What a bleak movie. What makes it worse is that shit like this DOES happen in real life.
Sometimes what makes a villain or villains in this case scary is that you don't need a motive. Sometimes, people are just evil for the sake of it. Kind of like Michael Myers was originally until they added that whole brother sister thing!

My peeps!!! Excellent reaction as always, but you guys particularly killed it in this one. :) I always say this was the horror movie that truly scared the bejeezus out of me because it's just too real. This is not a murderer in a mansion on seaside cliff or something like that. This is eating ice cream in a one-story ranch on a regular street after you just broke up. Way too relatable for me at the time lol

TBH it's pretty easy to tell how the Strangers easily go from one place to another, like...the front door was literally open, they never closed it, the only time it was closed is when Dollface comes back, the door was open the entire time (The other two Strangers could've easily snuck in before, if Dollface wanted to she could easily walk in cause the couple left the door unlocked) and we see from prior scenes it's silent when it opens like the first-time the guy opens it the first-time Dollface arrives.
Plus the windows that we hear tampered with.

I believe the group scouted the house prior and watched and waited for their opportunity. It would explain them knowing the general vicinity around the house as well as how they got in and out at first effortlessly. They could easily have set it up to be that way. Anytime we go somewhere out of town i always check every door and window when we get there for tampering or manipulation. Im with you though. As much as i love this movie, it also always makes me mad. All they had to do was stay in the room and wait until sunrise. Anyone comes through that door way is done. Period. The gangs only option would be to burn them out. Sun comes up you have visibility and a shotgun has more of an effective range than most think. As fas as his friend goes, i hate what happened, but let me tell you, I’m in rural Northeast Texas, everyone in this state knows full well you better announce yourself, no matter what. I was raised by a retired Dallas County Sheriff, so its even worse. He should not have been creeping through that house and just strolling in front of open doorways. I remember some friends of mine and myself were going to help my dad move some furniture one morning but dad overslept and was not answering the door. I had a key to their house, i opened a door, peeked inside and saw that no lights were on in the house and it was quiet, i immediately closed the door and just waited. My friends said hey you want to go wake your dad up, i said no sir, I’m not getting killed today. Dad finally startled awake realizing he overslept and came out. I told him that i decided it was a better idea to wait and he said I’m glad you did, i would have never forgave myself if i killed you. Lol. Make yourself known homie. Your already in a bad situation. Great movie, poor decision making at times. Shout out to my man Merle Haggard. Mama tried. Great reaction. I love y’all’s channel. Y’all are awesome.

Good call in the waiting! And yup! Always make yourself known just in case. But especially in this case. The guy clearly saw something went down in the house! I enjoyed your reaction and subscribed but I disagree with you. I'm a professional fighter. They cast Scott Speedman for his normality and emotional content. His character wasn't supposed to be able to fight like George st Pierre in this movie. And Liv Tyler's character wasn't supposed to he able to get down and lay people out like Chris Cyborg. This isn't a action movie. The're portrayed as vulnerable people that can't do that. Most of the population can't. If they fighting like they are on the ufc roster this movie wouldn't be the same. It would of flopped .Just saying. But good job.👍🏽👍🏽

Ciao guys! I’m new here but loving your movies revives thus far.
I really enjoyed this film, very much agreeing with many of the comments as well, as you two. But, what I’m wondering about is this.. while watching this film, we see that Liv is not a strong female character. Very passive, timid and not showing too much “fight” in herself. I get the feeling as if “something” had happened prior to that wedding, maybe months ago? A traumatic event that left her in this manner? Of course, she may not be of strong personality regardless but I do wonder. Also in the way Scott would speak to her. Not believing her in the beginning as if she’s unstable etc.. It sure didn’t seem as if she was overreacting to nothing of importance. He was too dismissive about her concerns etc.. He didn’t mistreat her obviously and did try to save her, to protect her but something about their early on interactions seemed odd to me, anyway. I know, we’ll never know any of this backstory if one exists but I did find myself pondering over it. Either way, it makes no real difference with the film. We don’t need to know about their lives previous to this night. I do wish Liv had at least, kicked a little ass. I kept finding myself saying.. “Come on girl, get it together and fight! Try, try, please!” Well, at least, she did survive. So sad about Scott. I do hope that “The Strangers”, learn their lesson on the next murderous event (without ANY reason to kill) they’re going out to repeat, for sure. I pray another person, gets the upper hand and puts them away, for good!
P.S. Did we ever find out who Tamara is? Ok, grazie mille!😉👋🏼

In watching this movie I noticed something I can't quite figure out. The time sequence doesn't make sense.
I am very good at deciphering the time of year and timelines of movies partly because of my training in meteorology. At the beginning of the movie we see it's 4:05 am. Not long thereafter we see it's about 4:32 am. But the events that have passed in that time don't seem likely to happen in only 27 minutes - the guy left the house and came back. Where can you go and return from and do something important when your life is being threatened in only 27 minutes??? Notice also how the ice cream had not much melted. That's another time question. It seems unlikely that all of this could have happened before the sun rose, or at least before there was any dawn light in the sky. Notice how it's pitch black basically the entire movie until the ending scene when it's bright day.
We know from the intro this is based on real events from around February 11th. By that time of year the sun would be rising early enough anywhere in the USA such that there would be some light in the sky by around 6:30 am local time most anywhere. I just don't think all of this could have happened in the amount of night left before the sun rose.
