Edge of your seat stuff and, I think, another example of 'fringe' people as Creed is an Afghan vet with people issues and he hires others like him.
I've heard that the Ryder Creed series is a good one, Cath, and I'm glad you're enjoying it. The book does sound similar to Crimson Lake as far as 'fringe' people go. They can make really interesting characters!
