Regarding the performance, yes, Win10 seems slower than 7. I am thinking of adding an SSD to boost performance. If I find some cheap CPU and RAM modules I may replace them as well. I believe T9300 costs around 20-25 euros in eBay and 2x2GB RAM around the same, so with 50 euros I can upgrade it to the maximum possible. Did you see any significant performance boost? On the other hand, for the full upgrade I need also battery replacement (~20 €), CMOS battery replacement (~10 €) and SSD (~30 €). Total around 100-110 euros. With 300-400 euros I can buy an almost unused i5 laptop. I am not sure if it worth's the cost, besides the fun of trying to resurrect a dead machine.
@@hemi3022 If you're goal is to daily drive that thing then absolutely dont do it. 2 Core Duo is ancient technology right now. Is it economically viable to upgrade? Of course not. As you said in that price you can buy cheap used laptop with much more power. But there's many other reasons to upgrade I did mine becuase i enjoyed tinkering with old tech and because it was my first Laptop so i was curious how far can i go. If you ever for some weird reason try to restore laptop remember that most likely you will also need a screen and speakers replacement. Because after so many years original will be burned out and super dark and speakers will sound terrible. I used Mobile monitor with hdmi to vga converter and built in speakers. End results is an abomination. I absolutely don't recommend doing it but I had a lot of fun in the project. i.imgur.com/5C1NkD3.jpg
I found one of these old systems at my workplace and am deciding to upgrade it. Instead of the T8300 (3MB cache) I went with the T9300 CPU because it has 6MB of cache. @@paritoshpandey01 That's what I found: The Intel 945 chipset is 32-bit. A 32-bit processor/chipset can address a maximum 4 GB of RAM, so the motherboard is built to accept only 4 GB. However, all system functions have registers that occupy mapped memory space. Many of these functions occupy tiny portions of space -- 4 KB for the Memory Control Hub MMIO, for instance. Some take significantly larger portions: The PCI Express Register Range occupies 256 MB. In aggregate, these items use about 700 MB of memory space -- yielding the ~3.3 GB ceiling for OS-addressable RAM. It looks like you can use 2x2GB sticks of RAM, but only 3.3GB will be used for OS.

If you're goal is to daily drive that thing then absolutely dont do it.

@@paritoshpandey01 That's what I found:
The Intel 945 chipset is 32-bit.
