Yeah... Wedge sucks. Nobody should surf there.
But fer reals... It used to be a lot better, before the "Jetty Improvement" project by the Army Corps of Engineers, in the 1990s... The Side wave used to be 🔥. Now it's best for Skimboarders, except on the rarest of days and waves... You used to be able to bodysurf it - from the Jetty to P tower.
You're correct on the requirements for good Siders these days... But the reality is, they just aren't the same as they used to be... More westerly angles give more sider energy - but also more closeouts and rights - shifting way up towards Cylinders...

@@boogieheads Wedge usually does pretty well for sand, in the off-season. All the sand in Newport washes and blows down there. But then it starts getting eroded as the Summer swells pick up. It starts as mostly shorebreak with strong sider energy - and then, ideally, builds some sand bars up, after a few swells... But often the sand by the Jetty disappears, and you get less sidewaves, as the season progresses.
Rising Sea levels and peak high tides can definitely be a problem on the Peninsula, tho' - you're right about that.

In backcountry snowboarding its a good omen to see a Raven/Crow. It started with Craig Kelly’s death, his mates started to believe that the souls of homies that die in the mountains reside in ravens and if you see one looking over you while out in the backcountry its a good sign that you are been looked after. Shout out to DCP for the story i hope i got it right.

wedge stopped working in the 90s. it used to fire, we all used to rip 100s of us. all these new surflies swells are over hyped and barely work or spit. our crew all like 40 50 60 years old now, hardly any new bodysurfers, all the boogers suck unless their old school rippers or the 3 new kids and there is a handful like 5 local ripper surfers that can actually make it look proper. other than that not really impressed. the brazzos are literally doing flips and alley oops at their wedge, while most of the cali kids cant even spin or boost here. the aussies are ripping and some rippers from spain and the canary's. tahitians are ripping like always and the indo groms are starting to shred. cali kids need to step up their game, as the polynesian island watermen look down on so cal waterman these days. i cant even call these soft next genners waterman more like waterboys, get it together groms." thats the true story of the wedge ". the next generation is soft. i see you fat lazy soft groms down there all pale and pasty looking like lost groms trending on social media. at least this zeke dude can boost and has that old school vibe. there are to many distractions for so cal groms to go pro and win the tour. you wont train hard enough and partyboy out way to much. the soft top thing has made so cal look laguna gay. the quality or lack of boogerboarding has made so cal look gay, so cal has transformed into some kind of modern day softtop kook utopia.
