My skating friend and I were raving about you. We've take lessons together for nearly a year now. I'm in Adult 5, she's in Adult 6. All of your videos are very helpful.
I always was under the impression that brackets were like a lot more advanced than three turns but you made this look so easy and easy to understand. thanks!
@@grantnoroyan4083for sure. 3 turns are usually learned first and brackets follow after that. They are usually much easier to do once you’ve mastered your 3 turns
@@CoachJulia You're welcome!! As a very beginner, could you recommend a first step for me to research and work on by myself? Our yard has turned into a giant skating rink this winter so I've been trying to make the most of it 😂
Your explanations are so good, thank you Julia! As an almost self taught skater, who returned to ice skating after 20 years and wants to learn step by step even all the things I either used to know or didn't know at all, your videos are incredibly helpful for me! You are great teacher ❤️ True treasure ❤️
Thank you so much once you said to have my body away from the center of the circle it made it really clear sometimes with adults we do not see things unless it is broken down really well
It worked! My coaches seem often to just tell us direction/foot/edge/rotation and then let us figure out the details ourselves. Your instructions about body positioning was very helpful. (Forgot to write this in Mars when I used it.)
i can’t express how much im grateful for your videos, i do figure skating but roller, beven though its a little bit different your videos helped me so much. i just couldn’t see the difference in between the inside and outside turns but now i can thanks to you. ty for helping me !
Hi Coach Julia, another awesome video ice skating challenge. So many variations and I'm still working on your Mohawk cross-overs. Ice time is limited so I pick and choose what skill to focus on, no time for all the variations, thank you
Great to see a video on this. Thank you for the tips. Please can you do similar video for backward brackets and FWD/BWD counters and rockers (I am really struggling with these).
Thanks for yet another great video! When you get the chance, can you talk about determining whether you're a CW or CCW jumper or spinner? Gus Lussi talked about this in his book, and said it depends on which foot is more secure for landing. As I just started to learn jumps and spins, I'm having a hard time deciding. It seems more natural for me to jump CCW but spin CW. How do you help your students in this regard?
Hey it’s an old comment but if by any chance you see this did you figure out what worked? I naturally rotate CW but my right foot is by far more secure for landings and following the advise you mentioned I should be jumping CCW. I practice CCW more currently but wondering if it’ll hinder my progress if I start working on doubles, would it be better to train landing on my left foot or train spinning CCW?
@@rnieIIe_lr Hi, I just don't want to spin and jump in different directions and I can't seem to jump CW, so I've been practicing spinning CCW. Once you're familiar with backward spins, that will help with your jump rotations (assuming you're jumping and spinning to the same direction.) The Lussi book was published decades ago. My coach told me there has been lots of development in skating, so whether his advice is still considered valid, I really don't know. If you have a coach, perhaps s/he could offer better assessment and advice specifically for you. Best of luck!
See! When I took my lessons, the teacher didn’t explain the details or posture about anything! The whole time, I wasn’t rocking forward to lift my heel so the whole time I though it was about the speed of the turn to be able to move the blade quick enough without stopping/tripping. I actually stopped my lessons because I could never pass my level because of this move!
@@CoachJulia Should be a bit easier for a programmer -- open bracket, close the bracket, open , close , compile and link together -- the program is done ! ;)
Outside edge three turns still rotate in towards the circle. If you look at the pattern a three turn makes on the ice, whether inside edge, outside edge, forward or backward, it still looks like a stretched out 3 on the ice. Bracket always rotate away from the circle, and the pattern always has the point going away from the circle like a bracket '}'. 😁
I cannot get these at all. Just got home from a lesson and my teacher says I keep doing a 3 turn instead of a bracket. Going to study this video and see if I can get it before my next lesson
Oh my gosh, I am grateful that we don't have to mask up at the rink anymore. I ended up with serious lung infections because of the condensation from breathing into a mask in the cold. It did a number on my lungs that I am still recovering from.

they are for sure more advanced than a 3 turn

WOW as a Dancer I had no idea how much more there was to just learning the very basics to figure skating! Shoutout to all of you geniuses lol

I was just think to myself yesterday, " I should start learning more about foot work and step sequences." This video came at perfect timing!
Perfect!
Far and away the easiest to follow tutorial on brackets. You really break it down so I can understand the dynamics of this move.
I've been teaching myself brackets so this video came at a great time! The free leg position was super helpful!
Glad it was helpful!

Always great teacher! Great instructions!
Thanks so much for this awesome tutorial! Brackets never looked so easy { } !
I am so sorry I didn't see this sooner, thanks so much!
I love these videos. I'm planning on taking up basic ice skating again. It's been 2 years since I last skated.
This was really really clear and helpful! Broken down just right. Thank you, Coach Julia.
I am so glad to know that you enjoy the instruction.
I love your videos; they are concise and free of annoying mannerisms and distractions👍🙂
My son (Owen) is one of your Alpha students. He LOVES watching your videos! (So do I!) You explain everything so clearly and thoroughly. 😀
Awe, Owen is so sweet and enthusiastic in class! Thanks so much for watching my channel, I am glad you enjoy my teaching.
Coach Julie, thank you for sharing your wonderful Forward Outside and Inside Brackets tutorial! :-)
I watch you from Turkey ❤ thanks for your amazing tricks , they are really helpful🤗

Thanks so much!
Thank you! I’ve always wanted a clear instructional vid on brackets.
You're welcome!
P.s just wanna say a huge thanks, you have really helped me learn sooo much from your channel.
Glad to hear it!
Amazingly clear tutorial and explanation, you are amazing, thank you!
I am glad you enjoyed it!
Very well explained tutorial. Please go over backward brackets. Also can you do videoes on rockers, counters and loops (figures)
I am glad you enjoyed the video! I do plan to make tutorials on all the different turns and elements of footwork.
Very nicely demonstrated and explained. Thank you!!
Thank you!
Great video once again! Will try this the next time I'm at the rink. Can you also do a video on Rocker and/or Counter turns?
I am glad you enjoyed it. I will get rockers and counters done as soon as I am able!
You deserve more views!!! Thank you for these videos ❤
I appreciate that!
This was SO helpful! Can you do backward brackets next? 😜
Great suggestion! I will put it on the list!
Hello from Ukraine🇺🇦. Love your explaining👍
Awe, I am glad you enjoy my videos. Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you from Italy 🇮🇹👍🏻😘
Thanks for watching!
I can't seem to get my backward three turns solid yet but I'm gonna try brackets this week anyway haha
I'd say if your free leg starts second, stays second after the turn (fwd.outside). If it starts first, stays first after the turn (fwd.inside).
Спасибо большое, правда, я не все понимаю, но Вы показываете, и все ясно!👍

I would love to see tutorials for rockers and counters too! I rarely see them in such detail on yt unfortunately >_
I assume this means that there are backward outside and inside brackets too
You assume correctly! I will get to that tutorial as well. 🙂

Oh my gosh that must have been so frustrating! I can’t imagine not teaching that bit of technique to a student. I am glad I could clarify for you.
Not to mention if you use your pick Going fast it gets stuck and you get a weird sprain with your foot in that position. I've done this lol.
Thanks for your video 🦋💌😃🌎
You are so welcome
Is bringing the heel in just for learning or is it the correct way?
This is the correct way. It helps with balance and posture.
a Formula on ice drawn so neatly, that is easy to remember though hard to do
It does tae a lot of practice.

How do these compare to outside three turns?
Outside edge three turns still rotate in towards the circle. Seems hard that one 😅
It is a more challenging turn. The Three Turns are easier.

Just realized Julia doesn't wear a mask in the vids even when around other people, I love it! thanks for that.
