You are the best coach on RUclips like another viewer said. You consistently put out beginner videos that we can use if we don’t have (or can’t afford) a coach. Thank you!!!
I just tried this pivot this week. I love the way you explained it. I cannot wait to get back on the ice and try again. I am 65 and have been figure skating for a few years. Your instructions are so helpful. Thank you.
I'm 19 and I'm starting to get into skating and these videos always help me so much ;-; thank you so much for making them. I love how you're so calm as well, it is very encouraging to me to keep skating! :)
Truly a magnificent classical ice maneuver. What skating should be about. I wish I would have learned this early on. I will start now! Excellent instruction as always.
You have become so much more confident speaking during your instructions (compared to your earliest videos). Keep it up and going, it's great! I'm not sure if watching the ads in your videos, at the start and end, will do anything for you - but I let them roll anyway. Just for you. Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge! If I make it big (in life), I won't forget you! Thank you, Coach Julia!
I am so grateful for the support and encouragement of people like you! I was so nervous when I was making those first couple of videos, I would try and memorize word for word what I needed to say. I am definitely more comfortable now! And yes, it helps me out a lot when people watch the ads. Thanks for doing that!!
@@CoachJulia You taught me well (when no one would and partially because I don't have enough money). Also, a shoutout to YOUR own coach. You spoke highly of her in one of your other videos. The initial nerveousness only speaks of your passion of this sport/art/passion. Your dedication shines through now. Have a great Sunday and much comfort. I will refer your channel to any human that aspires to skate, and needs inspiration - to learn and evolve - through your channel. Stay safe on the ice, Coach Julia!
It's great to see how it's done. I can't even think about doing this yet. I've just now learned how to forward inside pivot on roller skates as the ice rink is still closed. But I'm super happy with the progress, I've built up a lot of strength since last year. I did get the chance to skate a few days on natural ice so that was lots of fun. I've practiced going backward for a few months but I can't see myself doing a backward outside edge on 1 foot yet. I'll check out the video you have on that. Thanks for the video!!!
This is definitely a more challenging skill. But something to look forward to as you progress. Just keep working step by step. Next thing is those backward edges, then you can work on three turns, and eventually you will have gotten to the point where you can comfortably learn this move!
What a great spiral to your pivot point, your camera person is awesome as well... I've been struggling how to get into position for the move. You mentioned "cool" move, name not so much. In my toepickless world it is called "compass", cooler than "Backward Outside Pivot" but without your grace and style, thanks Coach
If you do the three turn from the left leg, you will just rotate the other way around. It’s fine, just be sure, whatever leg you use, that you do an inside three turn which will put you in your outside edge for the pivot.

Hello! This doesn't have anything in common with the video, but I've got a question. I'm a beginner skater, and I'm getting my new skates online. Do I need to get the soft guards? Or can I store my skates with only the hard guards?
hey this is a year later but I'd recommend getting soft guards for storing. the hard guards are good for walking around the rink but keeping them on your blades for storing can rust them (happened to me b/c I was lazy 🥲)
Guess I have to make that forward inside 3-turn really solid. Can someone explain why I find crossovers easier than an inside 3-turn? Or why backwards crossovers are easier than forwards? I feel like I'm just backwards somehow. Is it because I'm pigeon-toed or something?
I generally don’t teach three turns until after both forward and backward crossovers, because most people find them to be more of a challenge. So that is perfectly normal. You are all good. 😁
It can take a while to break through the fear on things like skating. You have to let yourself get comfortable with the idea of falling. And that sounds crazy I know. Just keep at it!

I love how you break things down and give transitional exercises to prepare for doing the actual move!

Glad you think so!

I love this kind of move on the ice as well. I miss seeing the artistic moves in modern skating.
Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️ I don’t get stuck with my feet anymore. Now this move will be in my program! Love your channel!
Thank you Julia for this beautiful and elegant pivot turn. It's such a graceful and beautiful flow of movement. Love it!❤️
Awe, thank you so much for the positive words.
@@CoachJulia You're welcome! Keep up the great work! You're awesome instructor!
Excited to try this. Thanks for breaking it down so well for newbies!

Beautiful move. Thank you.

Lovely! Thank you for making it so easy to understand! Greetings from Costa Rica
Glad it was helpful!
Love this move, and how you demonstrates it from cross overs.
It's one of my favorites! So glad you enjoyed the tutorial!
Thanks to you my dream about figure skating became true! 😀😘💓
Yay! I am glad I could help make it happen.
Thank you coach Julia, best coach on RUclips 😀
Wow, thank you!
Why did I struggle with this??? When all I needed to do is watch your brilliant tutorial. 🥰😘
Awe, thank you. I hope it helps with the struggling.
Oh, yes!!!! I so wanted to learn this and I am so happy you made this one !

You are so welcome! Keep practicing and progress will come!
Wow this looks so cool! Totally frightened to really sit back through 🙈
It is a very cool move. Just work on sitting back gradually, a little bit at a time until you work up to a more dramatic version.

I love that name 'Compass" So much more imaginative than a Backward Outside Pivot! 😁
Thank you so much for sharing! Have to say this became my favorite channel! Love the way you explain and break it down to us! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Wow, thank you!
@@CoachJulia no, Thank YOU! 🙏🏻

Lovely!
Great coaching! You provide mazing tips, and easy to follow instructional lessons. To think of all the money i spent on substandard private lessons.😯
I am so glad you like my teaching style!
Awesome! Doing this has always been my dream, but was surprised that it's so much harder than it looks! Looking forward to trying out these exercises!
Best of luck!
love your videos!! Thanks for making them
Glad you like them!
That was neat.
I love this move! It looks so fun. I'm going to try it soon. Where is your shirt from, by the way? It's so pretty
Love your outfit!
Thank you @zumtantsija! I think those blue star leggings are just too much fun.
Julia, Do you think that I can make the three turns from my left leg ❔ Thank you for your answer ⛸🤍
If you do the three turn from the left leg, you will just rotate the other way around. It’s fine, just be sure, whatever leg you use, that you do an inside three turn which will put you in your outside edge for the pivot.
Wow!

You're welcome
You're looking fabulous! Is the ankle still doing well? I might be getting the same surgery you had. All the best.
Thank you! Yes, ankle is doing much better. If you do end up getting that surgery, I wish you a skilled surgeon and a swift recovery. 🙂
Julia can We do it from the right leg please 🌬🤍 I thank you for answering
Of course, for pair skating, this is the man's position for the death spirals (I'm sure Julia will teach these soon - right?)
Yes! Men in pairs have to be really strong at this maneuver. I would be happy to do a tutorial on the death spiral!
Soooo pretty 🤩
Thank you!!
So fancy & stylish as usual 🎋🎋🎋🍷🍷🍷

I tried this today. Let's just say, I need more practice. Couldn't get my weight back as I'm paranoid of falling backwards, but it'll come.
Yeah, it is scary at first to lean back like that. Good job getting out there and trying it though.
Класс смотрю все твои ролики и учюсь
Я так рада, что могу помочь тебе учиться.
Is it normal that I am still a little scared after 17 sessions of ice skating ? What should I do ?

I would love to start figure skating but sadly I might be too old to begin
It is never too old to begin. I have taught people in there 70s who are just beginning to learn. If you want to try it, go for it!
