I've never owned a scooter, but I have reidden a few. My wife and I have rode mtorcycyles for years and for the last few years HD trikes. (They ride like a dumo trunk) I would like to buy something that has a better ride and I think a scooter would be a good chouce. The Kymco X-Roads 300I which is available these days replaced the Downtown 300I is my first choice. THe nearest dealer is about 100 miles away, but I hop to take my wife there to see what she thinks. I'd love to take her for a short ride to check out the ride quality.
Thank you for this video. It encourages me to go foward in the purchase of the Kymco X-Roads 300i.

300 really is THE sweet spot for a scooter... i have ridden 50cc..125cc vespas modern ones on holiday in greece.. owned a 400cc piaggio x8 for a year or 2.... ok but you dont really want to go much more than 75mph on smaller scooter size wheels.. i currently have a 200cc suzuki burgman... great little scooter for solo.. superb 95+ mpg on fuel... but its sluggish with a passenger .. i am going to get a 300cc.. perfect mid ground of size-power-fuel consumption etc.... my 400cc piaggio would do 100mph on motorway but didnt feel safe.. i rarely went over 70 on it .. and it weighed a ton, it was cumbersome to move around in my garage... you gotta remember they are scooters NOT performance sport bikes.. absolutely great fun for what they are... 300 is the sweet spot

Totally agree! Been there, done that LOL. X8... dude that's a classic now. I just bought a '23 Piaggio BV 400 and really love it. Other bike is Vespa 300. With these 2, don't need anything else. Except for the China bikes, almost all the brands have great bikes now. 150cc can still be a blast, light and fun to toss around IMHO>

Great review. I've had my DT for just over a year and a half. Crossed over 10K miles a few days ago. The only thing I will add is the don't believe you can change the clock from Military time, least not with my model (2014). Thanks for sharing.

Good point, I find when it comes to scooters, they all have their little quarks. My BV200 in all in Km not MPH and odometer is in Km as well. Makes it a little hard here in the USA when time to sell and title.... always feel like you're telling a little white lie ;-)

I'm all thorn up. I am currently buying a 300 cc class maxi scooter and my choice ended up with 2 scooters. This Kymco Downtown and SYM Joymax 300. Of course if I had unlimited resources then I would buy Yamaha X max, but Yamaha's are so frigging expensive that they are definetely above my pay grade. But i digress. First I thought Kmyco it is, but then I got a great offer on SYM which is around 400$ cheaper. I know it's not a lot but Kymco is that much better looking then SYM. I'm still thinking, I have time till my Amex arrives, then I guess I'll flip a coin to decide.

hey guys im looking to grab myself one of these for my commute. I do around 20miles "freeway" and 10miles city riding through London. - over here in the uk we get some unpredictable weather, hows this bike in the rain and cross winds on freeway?
thanks for the review, really helpful

Michael P, i know i am a bit late here, Kymco scooters are very good in flood waters, because here in the Philippines, Manila, almost everywhere you go get flooded on a heavy rain and when the storm comes. but just be very careful when the road is wet no matter how good your tires are in the wet, just be very careful, it's very good also handling cross winds, enough power to go up mountains.

Can you please please answer this I have no one with experience to give me an answer. I have never had any type of motorcycle or anything with two wheels before I am interested in getting one of these Kymco 300cc scooters at a dealer near me here in Florida it is about $4,000 plus taxes and all comes to about 4600 I believe they call it the 300X or something like that it looks quite gorgeous to me know my question to you is and this is very important sir I know I am allowed to drive this on highways and stuff and need a motorcycle license. I weigh 280 lb. In your opinion will this get me around comfortably? And what do you think the top speed is more unless on a Kymco 300cc? I would really really appreciate any type of reply thank you so very very much

You noted that the 300i is probably not suitable for taller riders. I'm 6'. Is 6' too tall? Could I ride this bike for 3 or 4 hours and be comfortable? ...and be able to steer safely? How tall are you? Thanks!

+Fat Cat Scooter Thank you so much for your very useful reply. I'm going to sit on it first-- and hope it works for my 6 foot frame. The relative power of the 300i + the price point makes this machine a value buy.

+Fat Cat Scooter By the way, does your buddy ride a Burgman 200 (...or 400 etc.)? Your review of the 300i is thorough; very well done. Thanks for sharing with scooter enthusiasts like me!

LOL, I doubt either of those bikes exist anymore or I'd film them for you :-) I sold the ride one years ago.

are these good on petrol? I have a 2011 cbr250 sportbike is the mileage worse or better?

Sorry just saw this post. I had a cbr250r myself. I did not pay much attention to the gas mileage to be honest but think the Kymco did a little better. The engine is just not revving as much. I do a good bit of highway driving. BTW, Kymco had much better top end vs. cbr250 IMHO.

What 300 to 400 cc scooter would you buy in 2022?

    • @fatcatscooter2584

So sorry, so late to reply. I just purchased a 2023 Piaggio BV 400 to replace my Bergman 400 and I'm very very happy. But the cream of the crop is the Vespa GTS 300, if you've never owned one... it's a life changer. Not only so powerful and fun, but how people want to talk to you about it is amazing. it really is a cult classic.

Yeah, these Taiwanese bikes have weird riding position because:
1, For Taiwanese youth, that's the "sporty" position, up right position is considered "middle-age" woman position in the culture.
2, Taiwanese are not as tall.
3, There's no such thing as long range riding in Taiwan, the longest highway is 290 miles and no one's in any hurry to across it because it's filled with tourist attraction.

I'm 6ft so i'm guessing it'll be too cramped for me...

6' feet might be ok. I'd say sit on one but might be tight.
