    Why is no-one mourning the loss of the "lone wolf" strat? Touch of the wild was great and maybe a little OP but lone wolf was great. I'm gutted they got rid of that one 😭

      I was gutted when they made it a strat instead of a unit you could make when you built your army. I don't care anymore.

    8:30 Keen senses also ignores to hit AND WS modifiers. This translates thunder hammers, powerfists, chain fists hit on 2s on the charge, heroic etc

      No worries, friends from Russia already have nice quality SM codex out there :) I will not get milked by GW greed. Hope they get their sh*t together and deliver us same quality of Codex we had in 8th... But truth is we all know they plan to make just generic marines and get rid of Firstborn sooner than later. Than we will have Codex SM with heroes Datasheets in supplements and unique chapter history etc. but models will be same for everyone... lazy design.

    Keen senses also aplies to weapons skill modifiers, so you can ignore the -1 from thunder hammers and power fists for those thunderwolves is a really good strat

      @@rankcolour8780 yeah i know, but the stat says you ignore any modifiers, so the strat makes you ignore the -1 and then you apply the +1, so you are hitting at 2+ with hammers

    Excited for Thunderwolves getting buffed but I can't understand why they'd nerf wulfen so hard. GW always makes such strange decisions.

      Especially in direct comparison to each ohr. The Wulfen are still good, but TWC are so much bett for not so muchg more points...
      As both Kits are expensi it cant be a point for selling..

    Keen senses also ignore any modifier you want on the weapon skill. Making a great alternative for hitting on 2s with fist/hammer/chainfist if not terminator ( since terminator already have Fury of the first that can work for that ). I think on mixed units like aggressors it can be really interesting, helping them in shooting in some situation , charging in some situation and hitting on 2s after charging with their fist. Or just any kind of wolf guard/thunderwolf units with thoses -1 to hit weapons
    The ignore charge modifier also can help to charge through some terrain sometimes aswell.
    Headstrong isn't as punishing as before, it's not anymore "you have to charge if in charge range" it's IF you want to charge you have to pick the closest unit as one of the charge target. So you can not charge if you want, or multi charge. And by not being as punishing, wolf guard pack leader don't benefiting from berzerer charge anymore, taking blood claws or skyclaws in a pack of 5 can be interesting.

    I have a question for all: Am I understood that “Wolf Priest” is simply a keyword now and the only way to heal troops is with a stratagem?

      ye we no longer have a way to heal our troops or bring back any dead other than a strat thats not worth the cp

      This is correct. Wolf Priests are technically an actual unit, but no different from a Chaplain anymore. You have to spend a command point to heal D3 mortal wounds.

    Still find it funny that Black Templars are still the only Space Marine Chapter in the game that doesn't have access to any special-issue wargear. Maybe if GW does the numbers and see that more people are playing BTs than IFs then maybe we might get another book but my hopes for Black Templars getting a supplement book is about 1-5% that it will really happen.

      BTs, the most popular chapter among them all (even Ultras), get the worst rules and no special wargear. GW logic is great as always.

      I was buying till 8th edition, when they get their sh*t together I will start buying again, I hate this agressive display of buy more books to play and rules being scattered over 3 books (SM CODEX, SW Codex and rulebook).

    Question about the Wulfen, their howl aura says Space Wolf infantry within 6 get to re-roll charges, the Wulfen are infantry so don't they get to use their own aura?

    I love the new codex, for sure. New stuff, old stuff, about 80% good stuff over all. I do feel though that our characters have taken a lot of hits when it comes to offense. Only in Death Does Duty End, Honor of the Chapter, Seeking a Saga, Touch of the Wild. All these strats went away and the only real offensive strat we have now is +1 to wound which is kinda dissapointing.

    Savage Fury is actually worded differently than what you showed. I think you linked 8E. In the new codex it states:
    "While the Assault Doctrine is active for your army, each time a model in this unit makes a melee attack, an unmodified hit roll of 6 scores 1 additional hit."
    This is especially important because it does not allow Adaptive Strategy, Instincts Awoken, or Bestial Nature to trigger Savage Fury as it requires your army to be in Assault Doctrine and not a specific unit. It may or may not be intentional because the quick reference section in the back uses the old 8E phrasing.

      Interesting, the wulfen ability specifically calls out treating the assault doctrine as active for your army for that attack, while bestial nature specifically states you only get the assault doctrine bonus. Instincts awoken and adaptive strategy could be read either way as they say treat the assault doctrine as active for that attack, so I think you could argue that Savage Fury does apply with these two.

      @@namewastaken360 It definitely needs clarification. I can see it being read either way as it is currently written. It hinges on the "for your army" clause. If it means for "any unit in your army" Savage Fury can trigger, otherwise if it means "your entire army" Savage Fury cannot trigger.

      I believe that stratagem allows you to selected one unit to be put into the assault doctrine for that phase while the rest of your army remains in their current doctrine

    Majestic Bear sounds like nice twin warlord trait! and 1 CP to start with 6+ FNP Aura is glorious. Sadly I did not notice Skyclaws and Swiftclaws having Bloodclaws abilities RIP [*] my army... Also sad they nerfed Black Death Axe... Mountain Breaker Helm looks nice on Thunderwolf mounted Lord or Jump Pack Lord. it is sad they made Frost Weapons to be relics however the boosted power weapons make it (sadly) have less fluff. I miss summoning of Freki and Geri for melee fight with Rune Priest, it was quite powerful psychic power - jaws of the world wolf got nerfed 2 much. Hounds of Morkai are bad choice same as Reivers... There are vetter units to deal with not just psykers but also the rest of enemies after hateful psyker dies, I usually deployed either Termies or Skyclaws with Rune priest and that usually wiped out Psyker fast unless it was someone like Mortarion / Magnus. The weapons those Hounds have is just pretty meh... On heavy armoured spellcaster it will do nothing as they will save everything. Thunderwolves are just amazing this edition - best unit in SW army.

      First - with Bear saga you start with 6++ FNP on your warlord, but for switching on the aura your warlord must take some damage.
      Second - Skyclaws and Swiftclaws do have the bloodclaws rules - Headstrong and Berserk Charge. They have 4 attacks per model on charge with chainswords, and not have to charge anymore - only have to include closest enemy unit in charge targets IF you declare a charge. The only stupid thing - Swiftclaws can't take WGPL, despite they have Headstrong rule

      @@Temsson you can start with that saga fulfilled condition for 1 CP and damn it is worth it in this case. On what page in Codex SW 9th ed or SM 9th ed you have entry for Swift Claws and Skyclaws? I do not see it anywhere I might be blind though. Page 166 in SM Codex says only about swiftclaw squads being 1 seargant and 2-14 bikes + PL and attack bike but nothing about headstrong or berserk charge rules/keywords/abilities. Assault squad on the other hand has completely no info bout Skyclaws on page 164 in SM Codex. And that is exactly why I say Swift- and Sky- Claws are gone, they have lost flavour and fluff. If you found (and can) pls post pages numbers for rules saying which 'Claws' squad got what 'cuz I am fkin blind it seems... I hate when they make the rules scattered over codex instead of placing them on datasheet.

      1. Can't understand how can i spend 1 CP for fulfiiled Saga - could you explain it to me?
      2. Swiftclaws - page 45 of this SW supplement says "Swiftclaws units in SW detachments gain the Headstrong and Berserk Charge abilities".
      3. Skyclaws - just look to Fast Attack section of this book - they are there. And they have this Headstrong and Berserk Charge abilities as well. So, swift and sky claws get their +1 attack on charge and pointing to the closest enemy on charge.

      @@Temsson At 06:25 1CP strategem a deed worthy of Saga allows you to get that ability. So the swiftclaws abilities are written as a rule and not in datasheet? Guess GW made a mess again... Can Swiftclaws get WGPL also? I admit I must have missed page with Skyclaws, glad they have datasheet. Cheers for making my mood better now =)

      Codex been rolled into space marines, this is really just a supplement book, which is why it seems a little thin. I've been distant from the hobby for a very long time but stuck my head back in for this, if just to look. From what I can gather, no more unique scouts seems to be the thing. You could now get the super scouts which were the hounds of morkai GW desperately want people to buy.

    Can someone dumb this down for someone just entering the hobby like me? Are they better or worse now? I wanted to start a space marine squad but the wolves just looked cooler to me, should I continue with the wolves or are the marines the way to go?

      There are no easy answers, the codex is powerful but not overpowered, someone said they are more akin to a counter-assault army than an assault army

    Where are the wolf priests in the supplement? I bought it, have looked through the thing 100x looking for my wolf priest but there is none in there!! The only one we get is Ulrik the Slayer?

      Wolf Priests are now chaplains from the SM codex but with a Keyword change to wolf priest

    The Headstrong rule is changed - now you only have to include the closest enemy unit in charge targets IF you want to charge, but you don't have to charge, if you don't want to. So Blood Claws and Sky Claws without WGBL are less suicide now.

      Dude, sorry to bring it to you but: Skyclaws and Swiftclaws do not exists anymore kinda... They do not have Bloodclaws rules. At the very least when my gaming store allowed me to take a peak I found no datasheet for those nor rules. My army relied o nthat speed and additional rules so ... I am screwed :D To put it simply: if you have jump packs you can use them as standard assault marine squad from SM codex and Swiftclaws as biker squad datasheet from SM codex.

      They gave swiftclaws the bloodclaw rules in the supplement on p45 and skyclaws have their own sheet with the rules

      @@rankcolour8780 Well I just previewed the codex on local game store but I didn't see swiftclaw datasheet at all? Page 45 is a datasheet page or did they once again placed a rule somewhere in codex to look for it instead on datasheet entry?

      @@dariuszmajecki There is no swiftclaw datasheet. P45 gives you the detachment rules. It only has 5 tiny paragraphs on the whole page.
      The text only contains 2 rules. One gives savage fury the other gives swiftclaws the rules so it's hard to miss.

    Am i missing something huge or are there no priests in the book. A stratagem that affects units near a wolf priest seems odd when there isn't a datasheet for wolf priests anywhere.

      Chaplains from the SM codex get the Wolf Priest keyword if they're from the Space Wolves chapter.

    Nice video. I was wondering how plausible it would be to field your standard marine army as a space wolf army if you were to purchase a few HQ's. Are you missing out on too many space wolf unique units? Video suggestion :)

      from way it looks space wolves are getting turned in to a codex compliant chapter long fangs lost there long fang buff and are now a standard devastator unit
      the chapters lost its frost weapons to become a frost weapon relic so theres only one like it rather than every one ranked wolf guard or higher being able to have one
      but ye u could do it Easley as the only space wolf thing they really have now is the thunder wolves and wolf packs would say wulfen but there the worst unit we have now

    Long Fangs apparently indistinguishable from basic Devastators. Not a fan of that. And what's happened to the Wolf Scouts?
    SW Dex being rolled into SM has really soured me on this edition, feeling like giving the whole thing a miss. Might try some friendlies with a kitbash of 8th and 9th rules.

      They mostly did it to get the supplement out faster, and the SW codex's can be pretty OP from time to time. you can still take a Wolf Guard pack leader in terminator armor with a heavy weapon

      Yes the base codex prevents them from doing so, they are listed as units SW cannot take.

      Not really. Every strong unit from the Codex doesn't really synergize that well with SWs. Our Wolf Guards are better, our Terminators are better (more customizable) and so on. Ofc there are some exception, like Eradicators, but that's just because they're busted by themselves. We can't run ATV + Apotechary (thankfully) either cause we don't have Apos, only Wolf Priests. Play to the strenght of Wolves: mid-board control, threat bubble with heroic intervention and devastating charges with TWC. Also Characters, SW characters are just so good with Lord on a Thunderwolf + Pelt of the Balewolf. t5, 7W, 3++ 4++ that gets hit and wounded with -1 thanks to Balewolf and you can give him also a 6+FNP with Saga of the Bear.

      Bladeguard & swiftclaws(better bikers).
      warsuit/infil/incursors mid board support
      Suppressors to null overwatch the turn you charge an objective.
      Judiciar - better armour of russ.
      Dreadnoughts.

      @@rankcolour8780 The chaplain is the same for the codex, not a lot to write home about. Bladeguards and Swiftclaws are neat (especially now that Swiftclaws have bs 3+). Everything from the Vanguard Primaris has been in the SW list since 8th and doesn't synergize at all. We want to fight, not to shoot.

      @@punkneverdie5590 The Chaplain gets our combat buffs. Give him the relic crozius for D3 and traits like hunter and wolfkin so he can fallback and charge and gets d3 extra attacks and he becomes a combat monster.
      With his litanies + warlord traits he can support no less than 3 buff auras at once meaning he is fast, tough, dangerous and makes everything around him fast tough and dangerous.
      Firing off hunter/wolfkin means everything around him can fallback and charge making sure you always have shock assault and can reengange for the +1 to hit every turn.
      We like to fight so him making fighting better in such a big was if he is your warlord makes him super dangerous. Plus he heals.
      Some things shooting make help you fight (suppressors/whirlwinds) unless you like overwatch blunting your cc assault.
      Just taking as many CC units as you can with no strategy is a sure way to lose on points. when everything you fight will be trying to shoot you off the board. as you get close and when you charge.
      Play smart, not hard.

      @@boyanpenev9822 they were always too slow to get into combat and didn’t have enough support to compete with other melee armies. The White Scars and Blood Angels had better rules/units for getting into combat and being effective in it

      Bjorn is a beast... Although he lost his bonus CP for including him in army. Enjoy giving him Hellfrost cannon for having both blast and shorter range lascannon if you wish with pretty nice and decent damage. Add to it 5+ FNP, and if for example Bjorn gets attacked by any weapon dealing 3 dmg he lowers it to 2 damage, if it has 2 damage he lowers it to 1 damage etc. (minimum 1).

      And here I thought it was the loss of Headstrong & Berserk Charge... I mean these rules do apply now only to Blood Claws sadly. Sorry to bring the bad news by both Sky and Swift Claws are gone from SW Codex, or at the very least I haven't seen them when my local gaming store provided me with preview of Codex... Was 2 emotional afterwards so... I might have been wrong or forget the details.

    Well rip wulfen, had a whole kitbash idea for them to make them look actually cool. Then GW predictably ruins it.
    On a side tangent I'm super surprised the community doesn't have their own games rules set split. Kind of how DND has pathfinder and dungeon crawl classics. The only thing remotely like that for 40k is epic and battlefleet which are purely left alive by the community.

PS savage strike strat proves just how OP the Blood Angels chapter trait is. Every faction should get the option for 1CP for Warlord to take an extra trait - giving all the tools to SM is demonstrative of how unbalanced the game is. Sagas on top of doctrines and super doctrines also OP

      You may just take this whole thing a bit to serious don't you think? And if the hobby pisses you off so much you could...you know...not play the game. Or maybe find some of your Friends who feel similarly and make up some house rules...nobody enforces the rules. If both opponents are happy with it you can just play using made up house rules.
      No need to be a dick about it and call a large portion of 40k players wankers.

All the xenos, chaos and lesser extent Imperium players ive met are pretty cool and dont crap on about the lore like it is real history. And no im not playing anymore - im selling everything. after watching space wolves lose ~1/3 of their army T1 vs iron warriors on tabletop tactics but still be in the lead VP wise T3 and very nearly win, it confirms my thoughts. we shouldnt have to house rule anything.

      I know what you mean but not every space Marine Player is like that. Sure they exist but I only met one so far even though I played in two clubs in the US and Germany for a while.
      But I apologize in the name of pure space marine players (I only have a space wolves army so far so I guess I qualify as one of them) for those amongst us who decided the lore is their hill to die on and who ruin everybody's fun with splitting the hair on Russ' back.
      In the end its just a Game we all play to have some fun in a batshit crazy sci fi universe.
      Again, sorry to hear your fun in the hobby was ruined. I hope you find a better one that you can enjoy more!

      I stayed in 8th because that garbage greed of GW to buy both Codex Sm and SW to play just SW is hot warp-dung tactic. Doesn't change the fact I will get 9th ed books from other sources and enjoy it with my brother alone bit more boring but each of us has 2 armies so we won't get that bored.
