I can't say anything bad about my Sony 100-400mm, it's an awesome lens and definitely a bit sharper and faster then the Sony 200-600mm. You must have received a bad copy, can't understand why you're not in love with it. I used it in December/January in Namibia and Southafrica and was extremely happy with the results of the combo Sony A9ii and 100-400mm. Of course it's not on the same level as my Sony 135mm or my 600mm F4, but it's definitely better then the 200-600mm.
Sorry but as an owner of both and halving tested multiple copies of both the 100-400GM vs. the 200-600G, the 200-600G was sharper at the long end (400mm vs. 600mm). See Marc adalhof’s review of best lenses for Sony A7RIV (purpose was to test resolving power)... the 200-600G scored excellent where to 100-400GM only reached very good. Of course the 600GM reached outstanding but you will pay a pretty penny for that lense!
An amazing camera certainly the flagship of Sony cameras. I have been able to capture some great wildlife shots. A9 a bargain if you are ok with the smaller buttons. I must get the 135. The 100-400 is great but the 200-600 has taken over for my wildlife. Great shots with Terrance and the 135. A very good over view thanks for sharing

@@TECH360TV well it's moire that what it is in fact ... it's just annoying as hell to see when you try to focus on a bird or anything else in a tree ( I looked for a quality setting but nothing ... )
Actually a9ii 20FPS is class leading because you get that without mechanical shutter through the viewfinder and not the rear LCD like the canon 1dxmiii. A9ii was built to use with electronic shutter... it has zero rolling shutter, zero blackout. Still the best
TECH360.TV understood but the A9/ii was built to shoot fully silent electronic shutter due to zero blackout and no rolling shutter. Mechanical is rarely needed especially since they’ve added the new anti Flickr option via firmware. Good review otherwise
I have compared photos between the A9 and A9II and the A9II seems to have sharper IQ. I'm not sure if this is a result of a new processing engine or maybe the AA filter has been removed or weakened as on the A7III. Do you have any further information on this?
Interesting I see the same...A9ii images are very crisp (and yes I shoot RAW only). Matter of fact having previously owned the A7RIV, at pixel level sharpness seems same. They must have done some tweaking with this sensor or onboard processing.
Great video, loved it! Yet I have two unrelated questions. Did you change the way you shoot/edit videos? The colors look incredible! Also, Bobby I love your glasses, what is the brand/model? It looks dope!
Nice review and some great shots too. Gotta say though - I own the 100-400GM and from the sample shots you got that's nowhere near what that lens is capable of producing. Hopefully you'll get to try another copy at some stage... but as you mention during the video that one is probably a bit banged up and faulty.
Awesome video, thank you! Do you think this camera is a good choice for portrait/ lifestyle photography? I'm in dark houses for newborn sessions often. I am switching from Nikon D4S and would probably purchase the 35mm 1.4 to go with whatever mirrorless camera I end up buying. Thank you!
Hi. Great video. I m amateur wildlife photographer and some times its difficult stay close the animals. I have two questions please. 1. What yours opinion about imagine quality ? 2. When cropping the image continuos a good image? Thanks and best regards
Awesome review! Though wayyy out of my league 😅. Have the photos that you've showcased here been edited in any way? Were they shot in raw? I do photography as a hobby but I've been struggling to be inspired lately because the photos coming out of my Olympus EM5 just seem 'flat' or without character. It's hard to describe but I'm at a point where I feel my phone takes better photos than my camera. Is it normal to do post processing very very often after shooting? Unfortunately I don't have the time, resources or even storage to post process properly so I really wish I could get stunning shots, as good, if not better than what my phone can give me. Any advice on this? Thank you!
Thanks for watching. Yes the photos were edited. I shoot in raw so they come out of camera with a flatter profile. Most images need some sort of edit to get the colors or details to pop. Yes it can be time consuming but that’s usually what is needed. Perhaps you can try and learn a bit. I’ll prob be doing a video in the near future to show how I edit etc.
Thanks! To be honest I only know of a few situations that shoot more than 30 min continuously and those type of productions won’t use small mirrorless cameras for those projects.
Thanks for the video!! Wondering...why would you use an ND filter outdoors with the 135 rather than just increase the SS, what is the advantage/difference?
You can play with the shutter speed but I was maxed out and it was still bright. Again I can crop exposure a bit but if I want some motion blur In the shot I would use an ND filter.
No lenses were damaged in filming this review 😊 if I was going on a long excursion to take photos with these zoom lenses I would use your method, however there isn’t many places to go when many businesses weren’t open at the time of this filming.
Great video! I was really looking forward to your take on the A9II. I was also slightly disappointed to see that a camera of this calibre doesn´t get the highest EVF on the market (like the A7RIV, SL2, S1, S1R, S1H, GFX100). For the money you´re paying for this camera and the intended use, it doesn´t make sense to me that it doesn´t have it, especially when a 'cheaper' camera made also by Sony like the A7RIV has it. Other than that, I´m sure it´s a beast. Take care and keep up the good work!
The A9 II comes with a blackout free EVF at 20fps. Especially the blackout free EVF is the reason for a lower resolution EVF, otherwise this would be an issue with current data processing of the A9 II. The A7R4 does not have a blackout free EVF and it is also much, much slower - so the resolution of the EVF can be higher.
Funny I got rid of my A7riv for the A9ii. Best decision ever. Why? I shoot wildlife and the A7RIV sensor readout speed is too slow, too much EVF lag. The blackout and lag on the A7riv make it awful for fast wildlife. The A9/ii absolutely kills the A7RIV for anything moving. Paper specs mean nothing..,it’s what the tool can do in the field and the A9 series is still unbeatable for wildlife or sports....and I will tell you the image quality is much much cleaner than the noisy mess the A7RIV creates above ISO 3200. For the record, sensor readout speed on the A7riv is only 1/10s... vs. the A9 at 1/160s! That a huge difference. If you don’t know what this can do for your photography you probably don’t need an A9 anyway. I’d rather have a clean, 24mpx shot in perfect focus than a blurry mess that appears in focus until you zoom in and see focus was missed.
madmaxx72 You should not generalize your needs on others. Wildlife is not wildlife. Clear thing, for BIF and fast moving Wildlife and also at bad light, the Sony A9 II is best. But for all the rest the Sony A7R4 is a great tool due to its cropping capabilities which is superior to the A9 II. I know because I use both cameras on Sony 400mm 2.8 GM and Sony 600mm 4.0 GM for bird photography and mammal photography. Using both together makes the Sony system a perfect system for Wildlife.
@@Stefan1968ful I owned the A7RIV and shot with it almost daily since its release. Its NOT an action camera. For the A7RIV to shine you will need the 600GM and thats a not a cheap lense (even with this lens do not expect A9 levels of performance). I am not generalizing my opinions onto others...its a fact the A7RIV has serious focus issues. Simple fact is I and many prefer an A9ii for wildlife in general (includes BIF as well as many other type of wildlife) because the A9ii simply has much much faster focus acquisition and constant AF precision hence the 60 AF calculations per second! This nets me WAY more keepers than the A7RIV ever could! That alone is enough reason to dump the A7RIV. Until you have shot with both cameras for at least a fee weeks in the field you will not understand what I am referring to here .
