I’m so excited to play distant skies! We completed sleeping gods and it was one of my all time favorites, I didn’t want it to ever end. Thanks for the video.
You're very welcome - I hope you really enjoy this new offering!
Excellent timing as i await for my copy to arrive! Thank you for another excellent clear and concise how to play video!

Yes! So excited for this game. Played the lights out of sleeping gods. Thank you
I think you're going to really enjoy this then!
Thanks you for making these great and helpful videos. Yet again you allow me to learn the rules of a game while getting chores done around the house at the same time. Can’t wait to get this game to the table.
Have a great time adventuring. We just started out campaign :)
Perfect timing Rodney! My copy arrived today. Can't start my campaign for a week though, so time to watch the video a few more times. Brilliant explanation as ever
You're very kind - I hope you have a great time playing!
YAY!!! YAY oh I so hoped they would do a video with you. It is so incredibly helpful! I don't know how we would have done the former game without it!!!!
I hope this one is just as helpful in your adventuring!
Can’t wait for mine to get here!! Thank you Rodney for the fantastic video, as always!
I hope you have a fantastic time playing Kathleen!
Clear, complete, and thoroughly entertaining. Terrific as always!
Very kind of you to say Jans - glad you enjoyed!
My first thought on seeing this was, wow, this video is a nice thanksgiving surprise. My second thought was, wow, Rodney's working on thanksgiving and my final thought was, wait, Rodney is Canadian and probably not celebrating thanksgiving.
Your thoughts ended up correct :)
They have Thanksgiving in Canada, but it's in October.
My copy is supposed to arrive tomorrow, so of course this is what I'm watching tonight!! Thanks, Rodney!!
Hey hey - have a great time playing!
Ah, I always love it when I sit down to learn a game and Rodney's got me covered! 🥰
I hope the video helps - have a great time playing!
Wow, that's an involved game. Looks fun! Thanks for covering it.
My pleasure - I appreciate you checking it out!
as usually amazing job thank you. Seems like very big updrade and better system then previous version!

You're welcome!
As always thanks for making the video. Realkt helped us get off to a great start. Enjoying the gamw with my 11 year old.
So glad you've been having a good time playing together!
I've never played this kind of co-op battle campaign game, but your video makes me think that maybe I could enjoy it
Very glad you enjoyed what you saw - thanks for checking it out!
19:21 I see what you did there... NOICE
I went to the comments for this same reason haha😂😳
Just finished a couple of runs of the Primeval Peril game from my pledge and cant wait to get stuck into this main event.
Have a great time diving in!
Thanks Rodney, just got the game so helps clarify.
Have a great time playing!
Really appreciate you producing this video. I can only imagine how much time goes into one of these.
Thank you kindly!
What would we do without you, Rodney. Amazing video as always 😀. Thanks again.
Have a great time playing!
Great video! This game looks like a very cool sequel.
Some new twists on the original!
Thank you, Rodney! Very helpful. :)
Thank you kindly!
The same day I receive an email confirming the address for this game to ship, this tutorial video is posted. Perfect timing! Thank you!
(And I was also thrilled to here solo play mentioned instead of only figuring that out on my own ;)
Hope the game arrives soon and you enjoy playing!
Great video as always! Just two questions regarding synergy tokens:
1. Do you earn as many synergy tokens as you cover during one attack or is it limited to one per attack?
2. If a character has more than one synergy token and it has a card that has special action that activates with synergy tokens, can that card activate more than once per attack or is it limited to one synergy token per attack?
1. One per synergy symbol you cover during the attack. Cover two synergy symbols, gain 2 synergy.
2. If a card as a synergy effect, you can spend 1 synergy token to resolve it. You can't spend 2 and resolve it twice.
My copy arrived today. Can't wait to get it on the table with my gaming group.
I'm hoping to formally start it next week, if all goes well!
19:20
Adventure 69 :D
That didn't take long!
Wow this looks fun. Feels a bit like your own Mountains of Madness story.
Very glad you enjoyed what you saw!
Just got this bad boy in the mail! Can’t wait to find the time to play it! Lol
We just started our campaign, hope you get a chance to as well!
Thanks for the video! at 41:03 you remark that distant locations are not only considered adjacent to Sapphire Pass (as indicated in the rulebook) but also to each other. This is not explicitly mentioned in the rulebook an I really appreciate this clarification! Similarly, at 37:21 you clarify that only characters at a given wandering encounter action may spend stamina to participate in its challenge which is implied by the rulebook but not stated outright. Some questions about wandering encounters I had were: 1) must damage be assigned to those characters even if no one spends stamina, 2) how (if at all) are other characters/players restricted from using abilities/adventure cards/discarding ability cards to challenges/actions during wandering encounters?
Yes, I had discussions with the publisher to clarify those points you mention in the video.
I'll have to follow up with them on your other two questions. In the meantime, I would keep an eye on this thread. I believe DJ White has the correct response: boardgamegeek.com/thread/3207265/challenges-wandering-encounters
Thanks for the response!! When following up about WE's can you also ask how status tokens from failed challenges should be assigned during WEs? My presumption is character(s) at the action--regardless of participation because statuses are different in DS and don't need to be assigned to challenge participants first--before other characters but it may be that only characters at that actions may be assigned statuses so I'm not sure @@WatchItPlayed
@AshLeonardJ Here's what I heard back:
*Question 1) When damage is part of a fail result, how is it assigned to characters (particularly characters at the location who didn’t spend stamina to participate in the challenge). Must damage be assigned to those characters even if no one spends stamina?*
Answer 1) Damage should be assigned among any characters at the location, even if they didn't spend stamina to participate in the challenge. If they run out of health, the rest is ignored (not distributed among characters at other locations).
*Question 2) The same as above, but as it relates to assigning Status Tokens.*
Answer 2) Same with status tokens. If all characters at the location already have the specified status, ignore it.
*Question 3) How (if at all) are other characters/players restricted from using abilities/adventure cards/discarding ability cards on challenges/actions their standee is not located at during wandering encounters?*
Answer 3) For simplicity sake, there are no restrictions in Wandering Encounters when it comes to using character abilities, discarding ability cards, or playing adventure cards if the characters aren't on the same location.
@@WatchItPlayedwonderful!!!!
Great video! Where did you get your component organizers from?
Thanks! Those are Game Trayz. I believe I picked these ones up from the Board Game Geek Store.
On 2:22, I feel like you should get Chaz into a video or a livesteam and play Sleeping Gods: Distant Skies with him. Better yet, make it the entire Watched it Played crew of 6 people, do for a week for a Christmas party or something over 7ish livesteams (or get as much as you can do), and called that a good Christmas of sorts. Why won't want to spend their holidays on an adventure.
Otherwise, great tutorial as usual. I didn't ever know they make a spin off game of the base sleeping gods, and I hope they make another game in the franchise in the future. Despite the tutorial being long (and the game being longer due to it being a campaign), we don't get too many long tutorials from you, let alone ones about campaign games often enough.
Glad to know you enjoyed seeing this one featured here!
Hey Rodney.Another wonderfull video.Do you know when distant skyes comes in retail?Sleeping gods is a prefered game in our house. We cant wait to take the sequel
I'm not sure on that one. I know backers on crowdfunding are now getting their copies, so hopefully soon?
Yoooo more sheeping godsh!!!
Oh yeah!
You mentioned a different Sleeping Gods tutorial linked in the description, but I can't find the link. Has it not been uploaded yet? Or was it forgetfulness?
Thank you - that was an oversight on my part. Added now!
Just got my address verification for this, so hopefully it'll be here soon! I'm excited :)
Here's to a quick delivery!
Well I've learnt a new word! Never seen Moxie before 😂
All kinds of learning happening here :)
Any chance you’ll do a “how to play” of Primeval Peril as well? Or is it all pretty similar?
Thanks for the interest! I talk a bit about that here: ruclips.net/video/EdtDuvIUa6A/видео.html&t=342
Crazy box spin in the beginning, considering that game weights about 32 metric tons.
I'm not sure if I missed it but when it comes to synergy tokens are you allowed to assign more than one to a character?
Yeah, you might have missed that - no worries! Characters can have any number of them (but when the tokens run out, you can't assign anymore, but if you would gain a new one when the supply is empty, you can instead relocated a synergy token to another character if you want to).
When playing a long campaign, do you cross out the * and ~ camp spots for the short campaign without effect, or do you skip them?
Hi Jack, sorry, I didn't cover the details of the variants, and I don't have the game handy to look that up.
@@WatchItPlayed thanks for replying. Found the question on BGG which was answered by Ryan Laukat. You use the spots but ignore the * and ~ icons.
@@jackpotman1984Thanks for sharing what you found out!
If playing solo do you draw 5 combat cards at the start of combat?
Correct!
ive always wondered how many retakes the intro spin takes.. or have it been perfeced over the years and now its just a one shot and done kind of deal, Rodney? :D
Are you suggesting it's not the first time, every time? *gasp*
@@WatchItPlayed maaaaaaybe? ;)
19:20 = Nice
What about when a storybook says to turn to a page? I read one that said turn to page 6 and there wasn’t a page 6 marked anywhere
I do my best to answer all rules questions on the games I cover, but I avoid individual card/paragraph effects, as that's a level of detail beyond what I can manage across all the videos I do. I'd suggest checking the rules forum for the game on BoardGameGeek or the publishers website. I hope you can find your answer there - have fun playing!
Hey Rodney, at the very start of my campaign I got into combat with wayy too OP monsters. How exactly should I run away?
If I don't attack them at all, do I have to take all hourglass effects? Or is it hourglass effects and give them additional power without dealing it to the characters? So if they start with 4 blue tokens + they have a total of 5 uncovered power - I have to add 5 more tokens to theie card and leave it like that?...Or I return it to the deck without keeping it on the map?
Sorry, I'm having a bit of trouble following the question. The story should tell you at what point you can leave the combat voluntarily. Before that point you resolve all steps of combat as usual (the video will take you through those steps).
I think you return the cards to the deck without saving any progress for the monsters. If you don't attack you don't trigger counter attack. You do trigger monster end of round effects once...and then you can run. That's my understanding. Thematically you encounter the monsters, you see what they are capable of and then run. You can also run at the end of a later round in a fight
Today something happened to me. My last character died as a consequence of the counter attack from the attack that killed the last enemy. Do I get to read the consequences of defeating the enemies or it is considered as not defeated
Heard back: "In this case, it would count as not defeated, so they would need to return to the map."
When would you draw new adventure cards?
The game will instruct you about when to collect them as you play.
@@WatchItPlayed thanks!
What is the 4th step of a player turn?
1. Draw ability cards.
2. Event.
3. Action phase.
I watched the whole video but cant tell where this 4th step is, the action phase is very long (as its the meat of the game) but i dont want to miss anything. Thank you.
It's the End of Turn Step. To help highlight that better I've labelled it as that in the index for the video.
@@WatchItPlayed Thanks a tonne Rodney, cheers from New Brunswick!
@@liamrobinson6226 A pleasure, fellow Maritimer!
Is the box empty when you spin it?
The mystery is fun, isn't it?
@@WatchItPlayed I just got this game in the mail yesterday, and if you are spinning that box with full contents, then you are the master because that box is HEAVY.
Are receipes permanent or one off?
Permanent, but once used you don’t get it back until Camp
13:01 are you sure about this? I think that if you didn't participate in a challenge, the only thing you can do is discard ability cards. Otherwise there would be no point in spending 1 stamina to participate in the first place. page 13. Not being contentious. Just trying to find the correct interpretation.
I'm as sure as I can be - this is something that I went over with the publisher. The reason to spend Stamina and participate in the first place is you then get to contribute your default and attached skill symbols. If you don't spend Samina, than those symbols are ignored.
ah..thank you for even replying. I was clearly confused about the rule!@@WatchItPlayed
