As the guy being checked in the end of this video, I can confirm just how helpful this drill is. In only a couple minutes, this exercise gave me the appropriate feedback I needed to develop both the proprioception and interoception needed to keep my body aligned without the use of something like a mirror. For developing a strong back, elevated bodily awareness, and elevated spacial awareness, this is gold.
This really rare to see. Thank you Guro Jay for sharing this with the community. This really looks like a great exercise to develop one’s balance, leg strength and coordination.
I know, you definitely feel how tight your body is when doing these positions. This will help stretch your shoulders and back out as well as strengthen the legs.
Right on, good thing it's a trainer LOL! No way that would fly nowadays in mainstream schools. Master Joseph Bautista said that when he was learning Aikido as a child, they had to jump over or crawl under a live katana blade. The good old days :)
Thanks!! Really useful explanation! Funny how one can find a real explanation of the body movement of northern kung fu in a kali video. May be too much is lost in chinese martial arts...
Glad it was helpful! Before the western world made their way East, it's hard to document who came up with what. There must have been a cross pollination throughout the trade routes. As of now, this lineage ties into the Moro's of the Philippines.
He complicates the simple footwork of Eskrima based on triangle and reverse triangle step. In his application of evading an attack he loses sight of the bolo that passes his back. In case of a "doblada" he may evade the first blow but the second swing (charateristic of a "doblada" technique) will chop off his head as it exposes the back of his neck. There is no substitute for the simple footwork of the old ways of Eskrima.

Next seminar is when Guro Jay breaks out the live blades. LOL! Just kidding. Are you implementing this exercise into your classes?
Thanks sir 🙏
Most welcome.
Great drill, and clear explanations for body alignment and for practicing the footwork in VSCK! Thank you for the guidance, Kuya Jay!
Feel free to contact him on any of his social media accounts if you have anymore questions. VSCK's approach is unique in terms of training.

Not a problem, it's interesting to see more VSCK, Guro Jay and the rest of the crew has in stored in the future.
Great exercise to build up the legs. My knees are in pain just watching this 😆

Awesome!
Thanks, but all credit should go to Guro Jay. We're just here to document it for the future generations.
This is great. So simple.
The challenge is to go really slow, almost Tai Chi speed. You really feel it everywhere.
@@FMAPulse Tai Chi has started kicking my ass on the regular again.
@@SheffieldAbella Especially since we're getting up there. Gotta cut down on the high impact stuff. Joints are starting to feel it lol!
Awesome Alignment practices with sword checking for accuracy of bladed shoulders.

@@FMAPulse Real Kung Fu and Escrima has never been taught in mainstream schools as certain realities are necessary to keep it real !

Moro martial art ??
As Maestro Sonny Umpad learned the Moro ways of training, we assume that it became a "martial art" when it made it's way state side.
