Omg!! What memories!! My father bought this car back in early 80s when my parents came to the US. The car was a tank!!! He racked up 300,000+ miles on it!! And then sold it in the mid 90s for more than what he bought it for!! The car was amazing!!! Just oil changes and tire changes throughout its life and absolutely nothing else!
sweet! one clamshell setup with the jewelry and comfort, and another setup for power and work...good bookends. hope you still own both. I have a '75 Grand Ville convertible...same wheelbase and also over 19' long like the wagons, but its amazing how nimble these full size dudes are despite the bulk...the RTS really did work. '71-'76 was peak GM, despite the usual comments about production quality, mpg, and bad paint.
Great Video. It's amazing how, back then you could order every option you wanted, Ala carte. When our family got our 76 Grand Safari, my parents ordered every available option, but somehow it came with a power bench seat, and not a 60/40 split seat. That was a problem because all the women are small and the guys in our family were over 6 feet. I'm 6'3" You even seem to have the Grand Safari/Bonneville steering wheel and not the catalina which had 2 attachment points?? If the smaller part of the second seat doesn't sit right or squeaks, it is usually because the bottom metal frame of the seat is sitting on the seat belt buckle. You could also put a little Vaseline where the latch attaches. That noise used to drive us nuts so then we were more careful!! I hope you're still enjoying these Gems!!!!
@@patrickflohe7427 That's a good one!! My friends used to call it the Toilet Seat. When I was a passenger, I would always take that seat because I felt it was all mine, and quite comfortable. If I had to sit way back, I would always take the passenger side so I wasn't sitting arm and arm with that gas tank!! Lol now that I think about it.
I used to drive a stripped down raggedy-ass '73 Buick Estate wagon with a 455 at work, loved driving that thing! Made that exact same annoying squeak from the interior too. The clamshell made for easy loading, we used to work that old car hard!
The biggest simple problem with the smaller half of the second seat not sitting properly and squeaking is when the seat belt buckle gets under the seat and keeps it from sitting properly in place.
I just realized that you mentioned that it was possible to option for the square headlights similar to the ones on the Grand Safari. My dad’s second car was a 1976 Impala Sport Sedan which came standard with round lights, but he swears up and down that his car had square headlights. I wonder if it was optional for Chevrolet as well, or if someone simply swapped the housing if possible. Granted, it wasn’t completely stock when he got it!
Rectangular headlights was absolutely Not an option on any of the 76 Impalas! It could have possibly been switched out later because rectangular headlights was standard on every 76 Caprice including the Estate Wagon at all those cars were almost identically similar.
No, the factory air cleaner had a flexible tube (which is missing) going to the front so it took in outside air. Those hoses are almost always missing since they all deteriorated.

Two clamshell wagons, and they’re Pontiacs! You are quite fortunate!

The sound of the exhuast from the inside is sweet

They call that the jump seat....the smaller seat on the right side.

Great find!!! Love the Pontiacs.

That wagon does sound good. It seems between the 2 of them you could have a pretty stellar car and a great RUclips series.

Always love a wagon! and sounds good too!
Great ride.sweet score..LOVE it..I have 72Gville hardtop
455ci....what a capacity for a station wagon!
Looks awesome....
Making one really nice does sound like a cool idea, kinda odd how this Catalina has some options your Grand Safari doesn’t.
VERY nice
I had a new one exactly like that.
I much prefer the look of the base model!
Consider selling this?
Bitchin ride
Sucking hot air from the engine? The factory air cleaner is designed to do just that! That looks like a k & n air cleaner much better than factory

The factory air cleaner did NOT draw engine compartment air.
It had a flexible duct that drew outside air in, to the carburetor.
@@patrickflohe7427 yes it did but it drew hot air from the exhaust manifold
@@fishbone856
That was for when the engine was cold.
-there was a valve that closed that off.
@@patrickflohe7427 yes im aware of that lol I've been working on cars for over 40 years.
