Hey Lisa, as someone who has dealt with this issue over the last 15 years off and on, save yourself time and money and have a milk sample tested at your vet. It will show you exactly what bacteria you are dealing with and what will get rid of it. Some bacteria are resistant to any and all antibiotics and form cysts in the udder which the antibiotic can't touch. You might fool around with different things for weeks instead of just dealing with it in days and move on. Good Luck!!

You’re absolutely right. I have had mastitis myself while breastfeeding and it is the WORST I have ever felt! If my cow got it, I would want to treat it as efficiently and effectively as possible. Also, it can get serious really quick and could cause lasting damage.

Oh Lisa you guys are a lot more at ease than I could ever be.. drinking milk from a cow in the back yard would kill me lol and then to have it have something funky.. nope never having that milk in my mouth.. 😜 My youngest daughter LOVED milk, until she went on a field trip when she was 8, to a dairy farm.. she never would touch milk again 😩 she is now 34 and still will not touch it. She says that was a nightmare to see all that and I knew I would never drink it again. so when I watch you guys milk your cow and bring that in the house in a bucket I think of that memory of my daughter and just imagine what she would do if we had done this.. I’m going to try sour dough starter and breads.. so EXCITED to do all that!! 🌿💚

I never did peaches again....lol. i was overwhelmed with doing it by myself, never having done peaches & didn't know what the heck I was doing. We had them all winter & they were delicious.
Chili with pasta, we call that goulash....I love it & it stretches the servings.
I don't know if you're going to have any zucchini slices left. The kids seemed to really like them...lol.
I really enjoyed this video. Brought back my days when I canned everything. I'm 74 & don't have a need to can anymore.

I hope your cow feels better soon. Food looks great! If you add a tsp of butter in the peach sauce it eliminates the foam. Also try using bottle lemon juice instead of fresh squeezed. Fresh is not recommended because acidity is not as high or consistent and could spoil your canned food.

Hi, I have just found your channel and I must say you are amazing! I am a farmers wife and we have always had a large garden. When we have overgrown zucchini, I peel them, cut in half or quarters lengthwise, take out the seeds and slice like a would apples. Then cook in butter and apple juice, sweeten with honey add spices/cinnamon mon and some cream of tarter (there are recipes you can look up), thicken with clear gel and can “z apple pie filling.” One of my daughter’s favorite meals with pork chops or ham on top of zappels topped with stuffing. Also, I have found that roasting zucchini, onions, red peppers with olive oil and garlic is delicious and freezes quite well-I use these thawed roasted veggies to make an egg casserole with some cheese and small amount of mayo in the winter for a very tasty casserole. I never stop learning and so appreciate the wealth of knowledge you are sharing@farnhouseon boone! 😊

We have freeze dried blackberries, peaches, eggs, goat milk, peaches apples just about anything we can do even onions and garlic. So we now make our own onion powder and garlic powder. Oh we also freeze dry or herbs and have done kale. It’s so easy.

Lisa if you have an abundance of tomatoes and zucchini you can slice zucchini and place in a pie dish or 9 x 13 baking dish, top with sliced tomatoes, salt, pepper, basil or thyme or both, cheese such as manchego & parmesean bake until zucchini is Al dente. It basically steams the zucchini & is delicious. I do mine in a microwave for 5 minutes but I don't think you use a microwave.

I noticed your jelly jars are milky from sediments from your water. If you put a tablespoon of vinegar in your boiling waterbath, that will prevent that from getting on your jars.
Also, if processing time in the hot water bath is 10 minutes or longer, NCHFP says sterilizing jars is not needed.

    • @DonnaBorooah
      @DonnaBorooah 2 года назад +4

Great tips! Still necessary to get the jars hot before filling to avoid shocking the glass.
I use a steam canner so I just warm them up there before filling. They end up sterilized but are warm for my next canning step.

I love to dehydrate zucchini slices for soups in off season. So nice to not have to buy at the store when you want a pot of minestrone or something in the dead of Winter! Another good way to prepare that would be good for your chips... Add them to a slightly thinned tomato sauce with basil, etc., you could even cook with some meat, sausage... Let them reconstitute in your tomato sauce. It's delicious and they absorb the flavour.

Wow! You got a lot of bottles from the peaches. Going to keep you a long time. Because we don't live on a homestead, we have a shop we visit in a small town 38 miles from us. Their prices are cheaper than in the cities. There we buy bulk beetroot, carrots, cucumbers, and fruit. We then make jams and preserves of some of them. Others we dehydrate. The dehydrated veggies are great in stews and soups.

I haven't tried it yet but keeping the peels on peaches and pureeing in a high speed blender makes it a good texture. So much easier to skip the harder steps. ;) Works for applesauce so I think it would for peaches too! When we can sliced peaches we just keep the peels on and my family likes them so it just makes the color prettier when you can it anyways. Would love to do peach sauce one of these days though!
Dehydrated peach sliced and/or cubed is super yummy in oatmeal and as snacks. I bet freeze dried would be amazing too.

Other ideas for your zucchini (or marrows as they are so big) are marrow soup, marrow jam, marrow chutney, and stuffed marrow. I have just made some marrow soup with cannellini beans and it was delicious.
I really want to try lactofermenting, I think I will start with red onions as I can imagine using them on burgers and pizzas.

I love your channel and I think you’re amazing! I also listen to your podcasts and love your content. I’m in Sydney australia and your lifestyle is so different to mine here!! I just wanted to ask if it’s possible to show a little more footage around the farm (ie filing your outdoor jobs a little more) . Your farm is so pretty and I love gardening, so I live vicariously through your gardening shots and all your animal care etc! I can’t believe how much land you have and how beautiful your garden is!!
