Your approach to sourdough reminds me that we women have been making bread this way for a long time, before scales and timers! There doesn’t need to be a lot of fuss and precision to get all the benefits of long fermented grains, or to make delcious food for our families. Thank you so much for sharing your down-to-earth, delicious ideas and methods. It’s so clear how much devotion you have for this homemaking work, and it always gives me a boost of inspiration!
I agree. I used to measure out every little thing I baked. Over time I got tired of washing a bunch of little measuring spoons and stuff plus always having a busy toddler or a baby in my arms, I just need to hurry sometimes. I can eyeball most things. I mean, if I'm making a cake I'll measure out flour but overall I've gotten lazy about it and trust my judgement on things I've made 1000 times. It's always good (maybe even better than before). When I watch people pull out a digital scale and start measuring in grams, I just know I'm never using that recipe. That's the one thing that's held me back from soap making. It seems very precise.
Well I at last found someone who makes pizza crust out of discarded sourdough!! I just gâté wasting discarded sourdough!! And another thing that am certain you thought of the dried sourdough that is around your big jar you can scoop it up put it aside and when verrry dry save it in another jar so when by accident you don’t have enough sourdough you can make some more by feeding it with some water and flour.. it will come alive even with a dab of your dried sourdough. Thank you very much again.
Exactly!! And even my mother who is 74 always made the most wonderful brown bread / apple tart/ curenty cake/ scones.....it was and still is 'a fist of this/a pinch of that'!!
I was raised by someone like you who loved to feed her hungry, active family with nutritious and delicious food. I am so deeply grateful for my mom and all of the loving moms dads, grands, caretakers etc. that put time and energy into making good food for those they love.
This was such a helpful video. After watching you, I started my own starter and have kept it happy for quite awhile. Our grandchildren rave about the breads that I have made, and our youngest was recently quite disappointed to find that I was not making the cinnamon rolls for breakfast, while they were here visiting. I am 74 and living proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks! 😍❤️😍
I use my 6” mini cast iron and make a bunch of mini pizza crusts. I get them all filled up with yummy toppings and then freeze them. We throw them in the air fryer for super easy dinner or lunches. Such an easy meal prep idea and my kids love prepping with me. They get exactly what toppings they want and there’s less arguing. Thanks for the inspiration 😊

Exactly what I was thinking of watching this video. But our family tradition of Naedla is a drop dumpling, (you spoon it into your simmering chicken soup) so a wetter dough with a lot of eggs in it. I may try some discrad dumplings!!
Lisa I actually made your sourdough crepes recipe for my family’s breakfast and we all loved it. My husband even said to me that these are the best crepes he’s ever eaten. I thank you so much for sharing your recipe. I am really enjoying experimenting with this wonderful sourdough starter that you’ve helped me learn to make. These are the simple pleasures in life that a lot of people are missing out on and certainly lost the basics from years ago. Keep up the great work!
it is so refreshing to see someone cook and feed a sourdough starter without using a scale!!! my grand mother never had a scale ol cookie on a cattle drive never had a scale.keep up the good work love your videos
11:47 - LOVE that you got the water from the tap! I drive myself crazy for "room temperature water" so it's. nice to see someone who clearly knows what she is doing using the tap!
when your starter is mature, it can be kept in da fridge. A jar can be stored in the fridge for months without needing to be fed. I only feed my starter, before I plan to bake. Like ill pull her out the fridge the night before and give her a feeding. She's good to go in the morning. I've fed her what ill need that next day, take what i need, put her back in the fridge until next time. No waist.
@@debbyavery5693 I dont know exactly the details of whats going on with your starter, but i'll try to hopefully answer your question. When i make a recipe that calls for sourdough starter, I take my starter out of the fridge which only has about 25g of starter in it.
Lets say the recipe i want to make calls for 200g of starter in the recipe. Evening time, (around 9pm) I will take that 25g of starter (COLD), mix it with 100g of water and 100g of flour. mix it well put it in a container to sit overnight on my countertop. Cover the top loosely. put a rubber band on the container marking the top of the sourdough starter so you can see how much it doubles. The next morning (around 9am), I check to see if my starter has doubled overnight. If it has, im ready to start my recipe. I'll take out 200g of starter from the container for my recipe, and they should be about 25g left. Ill take that 25g and place it in a clean container and back in the fridge (without being fed). And go on to make my recipe. A week later or so in the evening, lets say I want to make something else, ill go to the fridge take out my starter 25g and lets say this time the recipe calls for 100g of starter. Ill put that 25g, which i had in the fridge in a bowl (COLD), add 50g water and 50g flour. mix it well, then put in a clean container on my countertop to double overnight. The next morning Ill take out my 100g of starter needed for the recipe, and the 25g starter left ill put in a small clean container and back in the fridge it goes (unfed). until the next time i feel like making something. I dont make many sourdough discard recipes so feeding sourdough constantly is not something that I do. Hope this helps.

Just finishing the pizza crust, it has about 5 minutes left before it goes to the table. Where has this been all my life, so simple, and you make it so easy!! Thanks Bunches!
I love the recipes I have tried! I am almost 70 with many autoimmune issues, and sourdough and milling my own grain has helped my GI issues so much. Plus, they are so good. Thank you from Lu Ann in southern NM!
My sour dough discard, put in the fridge for a week and stated a new one with the mother starter. Made Sourdough cinnamon rolls, they came out absolutely wonderful.😊
You taught me so much about sourdough. You are the best at explaining it and have wonderful recipes. I have shared your channel with so many people. Thank you!
The way you feed your sourdough starter is amazing. My sourdough starter is over 7 years old and I have always used scales to weigh the water, flour and starter. I will definitely separate some of mine and try your method. I love all your recipes that I have tried! Thank you. You have a lovely family.
I made the pizza crust tonight for Chicken bacon Ranch pizza... Perfection!! And I'm on my second batch of Lemon Poppyseed muffins... by request!! Thank you for your way of teaching, you are an incredible woman!!

Lisa, made my own sourdough starter per your instructions a little over a year ago. Then went you the blog and Pinned your sourdough discards recipes. I use them all the time and we absolutely LOVE IT! My grandkids always look at the amount of sourdough starter or discard in my jars and want one of the recipes when they come over. We love them and it is so good for you. Thanks for your instructions. My sourdough bread is my hubby's favorite. :)
So excited! I took your idea for pizza crust and we made personal sized pizza over a campfire. It was the easiest pizza ever! This is definitely going to be one of our camping meals.
Thanks for sharing. I’m gluten sensitive and have been loving my Einkorn sourdough starter. I make pancakes and waffles at least several times a week using my discard using your recipes. My grandson loves them as well. I’m still working on bread , almost there. I like to long ferment everything. Thanks for sharing. I love your channel. 💙Cheryl
Hi Cheryl. I too am gluten sensitive and find anything homemade with sourdough does not bother me. And I use all purpose or bread flour without any issue. I do have Einkorn and have used it for years. Just haven't needed to use it with sourdough recipes. Once a month I feed my starter with either whole wheat or Rye flour, which makes it very very happy.
Your sourdough videos are a relief to something that seems to have been over complicated! You’ve given me the confidence to bake and cook with something that seemed so intimidating, thank you!
Thank you, I learned how to make sour dough starter, and sour dough bread from your videos. Thanks for the simple explanations of doing this. I took some of my discarded starter and made, Zucchini cookies with zucchini from the garden, I cut back on the butter called for in the recipe and added discard, 60% cacao Cho. chips, raisins, and chopped walnuts. I accidently grabbed the cumin instead of the cinnamon, I caught myself, but a little cumin went in, no problem, tasted great. They were fantastic. My next journey sour dough starter from potato water like my grandpa did. He was a sheepherder when he was young. It made the best pancakes.
Can i just say props to you for not even using a spoon to get sourdough out of your scoop. You just get your hands right in there and i love that! ❤ Love your channel. 🎉 blessings.
Lisa, your my favorite person to watch. I just eat up your videos. Thank you so much for making it simplistic. I made my first sourdough starter a few months ago and absolutely love it . I will never be without one . ❤️
I recently learned that you can feed starter to chckens (it is just flour water and probiotic enzymes). I stir starter into whatever scraps I will be feeding them along with some crumbles or scratch grain so that it isn't sticky. My chickens like it, and it has straightened out the digestion of an old hen.
I keep about 150 grams of starter in a jar in the fridge. When I make bread I take it out feed it the amount I will need for my bread in the same jar while keeping 150 grams in the jar. I let the starter rise in the jar than pour into my flour to make bread. I then place that jar back in the fridge with 150 grams remaining where I do the same when I need to bake bread again. No waste this way.
19:47 I am so enjoying your videos. I love your calm, straight forward delivery, and relaxed approach to to everything. In spite of having a large family and busy life! Blessings to you and your family.
I use my starter for Peking duck pancakes. I just put 1/4 cup straight into a pan and sprinkle with salt. Cool until soft and still pliable. Delicious!
I love love all these recipes! Thank you for sparking my imagination! I began my sourdough journey during lockdown and have made many loaves of bread. You have given me the courage to venture out. Looking forward to making crackers and pancakes!
I was the same. the first few times I had my starter, I threw away a lot of discard. for about 3 years now I haven't thrown any away. I think it was your video that talked about sticking starter in the fridge. That was a total game changer for me. my family's fav discard recipe is your dutch baby pancake
I keep just a tiny bit of starter, about 50g only, then just feed it for my sourdough and stick it straight back in the fridge. No discard. But it does mean I sometimes have to feed it up loads to make recipes like this! I had to make a whole load to make your sourdough pizza crusts, they worked perfectly though. It's making me hungry watching this, I have a couple of fresh loaves from today and some homemade apple butter I may have to go and indulge!
I do this too and find it more manageable for a family of 2. Never throw anything away. The discard can also go in other bakes goods you may be making.
I just started adding discard to baking recipes. I use it in substitute for some of the liquid and flour. I've used it in muffins and sheet pan pancakes.
I have watched all your sour dough vlogs so far. I was given some starter from a neighbor last week and she said to feed it tomorrow and I really had no clue what to do or how to make more, I still have lots of questions but feel confident about tomorrow’s feed at least. Haven’t tried to bake with it yet 😳 Thank you so much for helping me from afar 💕
Well you are just a breath of fresh air! I received two starters today, fed them twice and BAAAM i have so much it was exploding out of the containers so I started panicking. No. Not anymore. You just showed me to use the dang stuff. Just bake it! Thank you!
You amaze me. For someone so young you are so knowledgeable. I still get confused about sour dough and all the steps to getting to make some bread. I was just throwing away my discard and it didn't make me happy. Now I see how I can save it and use it. Thank you for explaining all this and I hope to get better at making sour dough bread in the future.
This is a game changer for me. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU❣️My head had been spinning with all the different sourdough techniques and this has simplified it for me like no other, and your recipes are fantastic❣️So excited, and I’m gonna go order a large jar now. I just finally had some success with the amazing sourdough flavor in my bread I made yesterday and my pancake batter that I’ve had in the fridge for the last four days. I plan on making a lot of your recipes from this video soon. Thanks again 🥰
This was so helpful, thank you for making this video. I just started my sourdough starter 4 days ago because of watching your videos. I love how simplified and laid back you make it. I was worried it was going to be too hard to maintain. Cant wait to try some of these recipes!!
I have just made the crepes, and they are fabulous. So quick and easy, and you don't feel weighed down after eating them. I am going to try them with a savoury filling for my lunch at work. Thank you so much for your videos. You make sourdough so much more approachable. I will definitely be trying more of your recipes.
My time following your sourdough videos and trying these recipes and just learning more about the foods I am cooking has been wonderful because it has taken away some type of fear that was put into me as a kid of things making you ill if they didn’t turn out well. Granted I have had a few things that we didn’t eat more than a bite, but everything else has been fine. If something is over done, it becomes a cracker or chip or just crunchy snack.
Thank you so much for this, I will become a sourdough bread and goodie expert. This is the video I needed to find! I have subscribed! I am really excited, been feeding my starter, this is my 4th day.
I LOVE your pizza recipe! I make it at least once a week, and it's always guaranteed that my kids will eat tons. It always revives my starter too if I accidentally left it too long without feeding it
I just started my starter this week because I've been watching your videos. Thank you for reminding us this doesn't have to be difficult, time consuming or wasteful.
This is exactly what I need - just made my sourdough starter ten days ago and I have been wondering what to do with the discard. Thank you for giving out so much great information in one video.
I do a amish friendship starter it's fed every 5 days 1 cup flour 1 cup milk 1 cup sugar. It makes really good waffles, breads cakes muffins pancakes I'm thinking it may make a good cinnamon roll dough as well. I don't put it in the refrigerator I keep it covered with a kitchen towel on my counter. I was told that it would draw yeast from the air and it would help to keep my starter bubbling and active and it has worked nicely. It's a very airy active starter.
Hi! Can you do a video on how you transition your babies from napping on you to off? And the same for getting them out of our co-sleeping bed. I'd love to hear your approach!
Thank you so much Lisa, for these sourdough videos, with your tried and true experience. Makes it so much easier for me to understand and feel comfortable doing it myself!
I love all these sourdough vedios. They are so helpful. I just pulled my sourdough starter out from the fridge and I had not fed it since the beginning of summer because we were away. Now we r back and I just mixed the top liquid back into the starter and fed it a few day's. Now it's ready to bake with again. So crazy to me how resilient a starter can be.

Can i just say props to you for not even using a spoon to get sourdough out of your scoop. You just get your hands right in there and i love that! ❤ Love your channel. 🎉 blessings.
thank you!
Lisa, your my favorite person to watch. I just eat up your videos. Thank you so much for making it simplistic. I made my first sourdough starter a few months ago and absolutely love it . I will never be without one . ❤️
Thank you I have never made sourdough bread…. I appreciate you teaching me how to never waste the sourdough starter. Aloha🌺
I hope you give it a try someday!
I recently learned that you can feed starter to chckens (it is just flour water and probiotic enzymes). I stir starter into whatever scraps I will be feeding them along with some crumbles or scratch grain so that it isn't sticky. My chickens like it, and it has straightened out the digestion of an old hen.
Yes...it is great for chickens!
Oh I just made your granola yesterday. OH my goodness, absolutely gorgeous!!
Love how you keep your hard working pink apron so clean 😊
I use my starter for Peking duck pancakes. I just put 1/4 cup straight into a pan and sprinkle with salt. Cool until soft and still pliable. Delicious!
I love love all these recipes! Thank you for sparking my imagination! I began my sourdough journey during lockdown and have made many loaves of bread. You have given me the courage to venture out. Looking forward to making crackers and pancakes!
I love that you have a Berkey!!!!! Thank you so much for this video!
You’ve made me nearly fearless as a beginner! Thank you.
You’ve shown me not to over think it and avoid waste in so many ways !
Love to hear that!! Thank you.
You always inspire me with your sourdough confidence! Love discard recipes! Thanks for sharing, and hope to see more! ~Charlotte
I love frying sour dough starter in butter for breakfast! It's buttery and crispy delicious. Always enjoy your videos and emails.
You have the best seasoned cast iron skillets ever!!
I have more info on my blog FarmhouseonBoone.com. just type sourdough in the search bar
I love this so much I’m a single mom 22 years old and I’m excited to get my hands on this!!!!
Well you are just a breath of fresh air!
I received two starters today, fed them twice and BAAAM i have so much it was exploding out of the containers so I started panicking.
No. Not anymore. You just showed me to use the dang stuff. Just bake it!
Thank you!
This video is an absolute blessing! Thank you so much for taking the time to film it. You are AWESOME!
I'm just amazed at your incredible skills. Your parents must be so proud of you.
Good morning Farmhouse on Boone. That looks delicious. There's nothing like good old Sourdough
I’m watching you since yesterday when I found you! This was SIX and a HALF of watching all I could. Thanks!
Welcome!
@@FarmhouseonBoone thank you 😊
Great ideas Lisa. I have been making sourdough weekly for about four years now..and love it. We use your pancake recipe all the time. Great video 🇨🇦💕
So glad no scales 😂. I didn’t want to buy one! I’m a newbie at making a starter. Glad to have found you.
I have a whole section on my blog of sourdough recipes if you are interested...FarmhouseonBoone.com
Love to hear this!!
I love your videos. You simplified everything . Thanks Lisa

I have made several recipes from the discard sourdough and all was great easy pizza dough and skillet recipes are great thank for great ideas
That flat bread looks so yummy
I just love the skillet dinner wit the sourdough topper . Great idea !
I just stumbled upon your channel and I couldn't be more delighted. You are a joy to watch--so down to earth and practical. Thank you!
Thank you for clarifying this, it was very helpful. I don’t know why I get so hung up on the feeding process.
It always revives my starter too if I accidentally left it too long without feeding it
Hi Lisa i enjoy makeing the pizza's plus i also made some real fast taco's i am all for quick meals. Gypsy from Michigan.
I’ve just done the pizza crust, following your instructions. Thank you.🙏 🎉
Love the thin crunchy pizza crust!
Love these videos! I could watch you cook all day!
I’ve been watching & trying to master sourdough for a while now, but this video helped so much!! Thanks for all you do to teach us!!
I just started my starter this week because I've been watching your videos. Thank you for reminding us this doesn't have to be difficult, time consuming or wasteful.
I love how easy and uncomplicated you make things, love watching you and your family live real life!
Doesn't the milk go off?
I love, love, loooooove, your channel and website. So much great, invaluable information. Thank you so much.
I love watching and learning from you!! I love not measuring any longer!!
It is so freeing to be able to bake by feel isn't it!
Thanks so much for your prompt answer.❤
Wow, that's so simple and super fast.
Thank you for making this easy and fun. I love to see the baby💕.
And yet mine died in the fridge😞
Thank you for taking the time to explain and show examples so I can completely understand. I now feel equipped to make my own starter. ✌💜
Glad it was helpful!
Great, Great RUclips Video Here!
I appreciate your approach here and your recipes...
Th Ankh You
Omg! I’m so excited about your channel! 😊 I’m a pretty new sourdough starter user and I was looking for all the things I can do with it, my mind is blown! I can’t wait to watch more of your videos!
