Little Heart is a dark tale that explores a woman’s confused memories of her childhood and her conflicted relationships with her mother, once a film star, and her father who smells of ink and paper and at times is indistinguishable from a dark-beaked crow.
Full of luscious imagery, the story reminded me of the work of Angela Carter and Shirley Jackson with its fairytale themes and dark twists.
In the interview Georgina talks about her influences and the nature of her stories.
She has just finished a novella Honeybones, and this story comes from her very well-reviewed collection This House of Wounds

Oh happiness. A story I've never heard by master narrator!
Always enjoy a lazy Saturday morning, coffee, and a Tony Walker story. This one was rich with description and dark beautiful tones of a terrible secret and it’s destructive consequences. Thank you Tony. Have a lovely weekend!
Sounds like a nice Saturday routine
Masterful writing combined with masterful presentation. Gripping--almost too painful to hear. Thanks to both of you. Also for the interesting, informative interview. Please continue!
Painful, gripping also now two years later. Masterful writing, narration, commentary. Again, Again. Thank you to you both. I like it so much.
Needs several listenings...like looking at Hieryonimous Bosch. Pushed so many buttons- if I'd had the intellect and imagination how I'd like to write. But, thank you Georgina you gave me ideas for "stories" for my therapy journal and Tony's the best, he never goes overboard or hammy. I am adding the book to an ever growing wish list- I won't live long enough to read all the books I want too. Wish I could dream read each night- so I could read day and night. Thanks for probably the best dark tale in long time ( excluding yours Tony!) and for all Tony's hard work, expertise, and great guests and interviews. I love writers...
Namaste. Z ( I look in my mirror, oh blank! after that delicious Alexander McQueen-esque book cover, sigh, beauty...)
Beautifully written beautifully narrated and very evocative of Angela Carter especially The Magic Toyshop.
Great story and narration! Georgina did a fantastic job writing this! One can tell she teaches speaking, reading, and writing English. Her writing is perfect!
This story is truly haunting!
Great job.
Thanks!
A very interesting story, well read. I enjoyed the interview with the author. Thank you!
Excellent narration. Great story. Your voice keeps me company nearly every night
Beginning to become a lifestyle. Thank you
That’s a weird thought but thank you!
Been looking forward to getting a chance to listen to this! 1000 thank youse for amazing discrimination! You make the best choices and write the best stories! This has become one of my top five channels on RUclips!
Wow!
Thanks Tony.
Thanks Georgina!
What a little penny banger of a story. So much packed into such a tight little wad of pages.
Loved the story and the talk.
That was deep. And so good to hear from an author.
Yay! Have an hour to myself and going to listen to your newest book narration. 🌟🌟🌟
I hope you enjoy it
Excellently dark tale with just the right narration. 🙃
Will look forward to more from this author in the future 🥃
I couldn’t wait. I bought her Kindle book , and I do not regret it 👍🥳😉
(I rarely buy books anymore. Too many subpar books out there, especially in the horror/weird category.)
This story has stuck with me the last few days and I realised that I forgot to give credit to Georgina so maybe on a subconscious level if you don’t ever read this Georgina, keep up the good work! I’ll be looking out for you and I’m sure that you will make a lot more money from writing than teaching eventually! For a story to stay with you for a few days...... you’re gifted!☯️ I lived in Japan when I was 17, Osaka and then Tokyo and it was so expensive I ended up working as a bloody hostess to Wealthy Japanese businessman...... they were the only ones that can speak English- That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it! lol! Didn’t like Tokyo was home sick from London even though I’m from Ireland originally!
I think Georgina will see this
@@ClassicGhost Thank you Tony! I don’t know how my iPhone turned Tokyo into Turkey! Funnily enough it was difficult being vegan in Tokyo because I couldn’t read the bloody ingredients! They had these machines everywhere with junk food in it and I would just live on that! Thank you so much for your reply!😇
Thanks so much! Tokyo is a really crazy place, very intense. I liked Osaka a lot more. The hostess work must have been interesting... maybe not always interesting in a good way!
@@georgieb1471 you’ve got that right! At least I could speak a bit of English though! Alcohol helped, I don’t even drink anymore.... It ended up helping too much if you know what I mean!
@@georgieb1471 I am so honoured that you replied! thank you very much!💛🙏
Amazing! I wasn’t expecting the interview at the end! Thank you! This is a dark gem, enticing a look closer as its facets twinkle, menacingly in the night - begging to be discovered, splintered in a thousand sharp stars, and what is inside, revealed.
I wonder, did she kill him, as she killed her mother? Did she really kill her mother, or was it father’s darkness, come alive as a being inside her, and she was then the ersatz Anna, worn as the other mother had been worn? Disassociated identity? Her mother’s death a consequence of the guilt of blame, fueling the splinter, and creation of her husband in her daughter... and when she finally saw it - the thing she was always looking for in her daughter, it had come to life, vengeful, and she had a massive stroke...? So disturbing, looking backwards and forwards - and so sad
I saw it as her father being a predator/ pedophile and she had simply blocked out all the memories. She mentioned seeing an intimate scene between her parents and her father smiling at her during, which is a weird thing for a parent to do. The film did not have any sex scenes, so this particular vision may have been very real.
Then him giving her some crushed pills (with raspberry-flavoured syrup) to calm her down or make her fall asleep after the film night. Her seeing blood and a feather on her thigh seems symbolic, as if the figure she envisioned had touched her there.
It's possible he got caught and went to prison, and that also triggered her mother to look at the daughter with some animosity

See that you have hit the 10k mark, CONGRATULATIONS. It's time to see some Merch man. 👍
Hey, so. I'd heard nothing from RUclips, no notification about mercy and so I saw your comment, checked it out and there it is! I need to work it all out and I'm going for a walk in the hills now so I'll do it when I get back. Buy hooray! Thanks for commenting and reminding me to check.
Good start to the weekend.
Did Anne break her ballpoint pen or just her moral compass?
This story reminded me of a Japanese film called Strange Circus. The dreamlike imagery and the themes of abuse and sex, etc.
+ShroomyK that actually sounds right up my street I’m going to go and look for it
Perhaps I have missed the point, but I dont understand what this story is about.
I think it's about a linked childhood trauma and childabuse, but there might also have been a murder, or two? it's very confusing for sure
Is there a way you can send a list of your stories? I really enjoyed the ones I've heard sofar.
There are over 400 so I do have a spreadsheet of them but it’s got all sorts of other data .
I wish I’d known going in that this was a modern one. I made it about halfway through before I decided this story isn’t for me.
Gripping--almost too painful to hear, also second time around. Thank you both, again... Excruciating
Made it to 30:13 before I stopped it. Just seems like a rather sad, insane woman. And just not interesting to me. Now I'll look for a proper ghost tale.
hi fra Danmark
Hi frae Maryport!
I seem to have missed the ghost somewhere along the line 🤷♂️
I realise we have wandered from our title but I have done a few now that lack ghosts
@@ClassicGhost Sorry just taking the *****
@@ClassicGhost this one keeps haunting me, so it has to be a ghost story ;) On a serious note, Anna’s transformation from surviving to thriving full filed the hope of being the brightest thing in that deep darkness. Oh little heart, oh little warrior. Thank you both
Gawd, I hate people who comment things like this Vile.
