Every time I see a rider on a Ibis Ripmo ... they are always a SHREDDER. I know it's not just the bike but it has something to do with it for sure. SHRED ON SHREDDER!
I was going to buy this Ripmo at my local shop last 4 months ago but the waiting time is going to be next year. Then, I saw your Firebird and again, waiting time is 6 months. Ended up buying Stumpjumper EVO and I fell in love with the 3 HTA adjustment settings. Thank you for your great MTB review!
Great job on this video. Ripmo with 170mm is the sweet spot for sure, its the way I run it. Agree, it doesn't change the great climbing snappiness the bike is capable of either. All the EWS enduro racers using the Ripmo run a 170 fork up front too. I found the video entertaining, and I found some value in it!
Thanks! I didn’t know about the option to run a 170 when I started my search for the Ripmo. Glad I stumbled across it and watched a few EWS bike check videos. Amazing bike 🤙
I just did this to my v2! Did you have to mess with any spacers or cockpit at all to keep it close to what it was when it was at 160? Since the 170 changes the geo a little.
@@arturohernandez2055 No not at all. Depending on the fork though. If you installed a Zeb, it is 5mm higher than a Lyrik or Fox 36. This with 170mm will shorten reach. So if you feel reach shorter, you can offset that with 5-10mm bigger stem. Ex.- if you ran a 30mm stem try 35-40mm stem. But who knows, some like a smaller reach as it makes the bike easier to manuever.
@@arturohernandez2055 I'm sure you will love that fork no doubt. I just did a brake video to make your brakes even better if you are interested, check it out... Ride on...

@@MILTONATOR that’s awesome. Did you see the video about the guy that turned a Pivot Phoenix into an enduro bike? It was on VitalMTB. It’s pretty sick.
Hi, I have dvo onyx d1 160mm on my ripmo af , can I increase the travel to 170 or 180mm? how will this affect the geometry? in the case of 170, I suspect it's not much, but 180 is already a 20mm difference... and the damper is only 150mm, and won't that be too big a difference of 10mm or 20mm? thanks in advance for your answer
@@MILTONATOR ok, the shock absorber has this option, but nothing in ripmo ibis says that you can use a 170 or 180 fork. I wonder how it will affect the geo...
Ever thought about putting a cascade components rear linkage? Ups the progression, small bump sensitivity and gives you a bit more travel on the AF model at least
Funny how I’m just now seeing this comment. Funny because I sold the Ripmo 8 months ago to get a bigger enduro (my Meta SX) and today, I’m swapping my SX for another Ripmo
@@MILTONATOR Crazy...hard to beat a Ripmo as an all rounder. My wife and I are both on Ripmos, I'm on an AF and she's on a V2. So good! How come the switch back for you?

Have those handlebars, too. But 38mm rise. Great bars. In general I have to turn my handlebars more forward than other riders because of handpain. No matter if 7 degree or 9 degree back sweep. Did you check the fork off set of both forks? The longer wheel base could come from there.
I have a 2018 YT Capra Aluminum 29er. I am wanting to purchase the new ibis Ripmo V2S frame and throw all my parts onto it. I know I will need a new set of cranks with a 55mm chain line. How much better does the Ripmo V2 feel then your old Capra?
Hell yeah man, I'm running 170mm on my onyx too. Now you have to look into cascade components, they just made a suspension to increase the progression to 31% in the rear. It's well worth it, I'm running it on my Ripmo. 🤘
@@MILTONATOR so for the AF it adds travel to 151mm, but for the V2 I don't believe it adds anymore travel. The characteristics definitely change, the progression is nice and controlled and running less pressure really makes the rear end more plush. I don't notice any downside to climbing ability.
Great review, thank you! For me, it's coming down to the RipMo or the YT Jeffsy, I know the price ranges are not equal but do you have any thoughts on the Jeffsy? Happy trails man!
Interesting that you ask about the Jeffsy as this is my #2 on the list. I’ve not ridden the Jeffsy but I geek out on geo and suspension charts which is why I’m considering it. My thoughts: I big on suspension platforms that are supportive (low to none pedal bob) and progressive, which the Jeffsy checks off. My only hesitation is the 65.5 HTA and 150mm fork. I’m good with 65 and prefer 64.5 and I like to run 170 fork (like the Ripmo) But i have a feeling the Jeffsy will not disappoint
No more Firebird 29? Geo on the Ripmo and FB 29 are almost identical. Why the change? Is there any significant riding characteristics that separate the two bikes? Cheers! Great channel!
Thanks man! Somewhat similar. After one year with my FB wanted to try the “best all around bike” claimed to be the Ripmo. Turned out to be true. It’s much more efficient climber and twice as poppy/playful. I sold it tho because it was a medium and felt a bit small for me. Unfortunately I couldn’t find another great deal on a large so I settled for a Commencal meta TR 🙃
Super curious on the Ripmo vs Firebird. I ended up going with an OG FB 29 when you couldn’t get a Ripmo. I have had my FB on 40 mile epics with no complaints. Curious on how the Ripmo compares.
Sweet rig! Makes me want to try the 170 on my ripmo. Is there anyway to increase travel from 160 to 170 on onyx sc d1 without having to buy a new fork?
I have an XT build and with a Fox 36 and no pedals it was a hair under 30 lbs (DVO Topaz out back and 2.4 tires). With the Fox 38, an X2 and Assegais I'm between 32 and 33lbs. The X2 is heavy (over 600 grams) an older fox float without the piggyback can be as little as say 250 grams.

Great video! $64,000 question and it is okay if nobody wants to answer in print, but does going to 170mm void your frame warranty? I can't imagine that the extra 10mm puts any kid of additional/significant forces on the bike. I have a Fox 38 on my V2 and would love to bump up the BB height a bit, and get a touch of extra slack.
