Nice review! Yes, Ibis make the perfect bike! I just bought the Ripmo V2 and love it. He climbs really well for the category, even in the technique! He is very good at downhill! A little stiff, but it sticks to the ground with great traction! In short, I love the bike with love! The most versatile bike I've ever ridden.
Great review and great riding. Ready for our trails around Denver to thaw out a bit. Taking delivery of my V2 Ripmo on 3/20. Hope it’s not too much bike for my rookie riding skills. Just subbed your channel.
Really great videos, super informative and descriptive. I've watched this video and your SB130 vs Hightower vids a few times. Guy in his 40's buying a new mountain bike for the first time in a long time(coming off motor trail/enduro bikes). Between the V2 and a normal SB130. Live in Colorado and this will be my only bike, mostly trails but might even get the occasional road/paved trail use. Do you think the V2 climbs as efficiently as the regular SB130? Would they be comparably efficient riding on flat flowey stuff or even pavement? Thanks for your time. Super hard to get a ride on either bike with the pandemic shortage going on.
Hi Doug! It’s tough to go wrong with either one. If you’re in colorado you’ve got to do the Yeti to blend in. The Sb130 feels really fast - everywhere. The Ripmo feels more playful and plush. I think they’re pretty similar on climbs and flatter stuff.
This was an XT build. I'm honestly a pretty big fan of the 36 Performance. It lacks adjustability in the damper but I don't feel that it lacks any performance. I'm not much of a tinkerer so the Performance level is fine for me.
Excellent review BE! RipMo V2 vs Hightower V2 if had anytime on at HT2 for “all/any trail riding”? I have the HT2 w/160 fork and MegNeg shock and does pretty well on most “All Mt/DH” terrain. I do miss the high speed pop and carry thru trail sensation a bit of HT1, even though the V2 is an all around better bike. The RipMo looks sounds like it might retain that forward, quick accelerating thru any terrain sensation I miss a bit.
Thanks! I think I miss that quick acceleration sensation when stomping the pedals like the original HT had. Might have to give the V2 Rip a roll. Cheers and keep up the great content!
What you miss "the high speed pop and carry thru trail sensation" of the HT1, the Ripmo 2 has. The numbers are similar to the v.2 Hightower with a little more travel. Somehow, Santa Cruz lost that fun party feeling the HT1 had or HTLT had. HT2 does climb better and is super plush and feels bottomless, it does very well in any aggressive situation you put it into. But when its not so knarly out there and super flowy it seems sort of blah and disinterested. It just doesn't that poppy playful feeling v.1 had. I would suggest you demo a Ripmo, it will feel like someone unleashed you, like it was dark and now it light. The Ripmo makes riding fun even when climbing. While HT2 climbs well, it doesn't climb as well as the Ripmo but the Megneg will have you feeling how plush your HT2 was. This is speaking interms of a Ripmo 2 on a Fox DPX2. IF you go with a fox X2 or a DVO Topaz, you can adjust suspension much more to feel like you HT2. Ride on Jon...
The Ripmo climbs a bit better, but only marginally. They're both really efficient and quick. The Ripmo is a little lighter and I think that will be the biggest difference on the ups. The 130 has a much more firm, supportive suspension feel where the Ripmo is ultra plush and squishy. They're both very versatile bikes that you can ride on a wide variety of terrain.
@Sham Rock, I would say in a short manner. HT2 is going to feel a little more plush in descents that are rocky and technical and the R2 will feel more progressive and not as plush but small bump will feel amazing. I say that based off a R2 with a Fox DPx2 rear shock. If you got one with a Fox X2 or a DVO Topaz, the rear would be able to be tuned to feel like the HT2. In climbing, the HT2 climbs better than the HT1, which is an improvement but it doesn't climb as well as the R2, it just doesn't. If you ever demo them both you'll notice it night and day. The R2 feels like a light party bike that wants to play bmx and be poppy and playful. While the HT2 wants to not be the bmx and doesn't want to attend the party. It's just there to do it all and do it all very good with some bulk. I say that because the HT2 is a much heavier frame than the R2. Top of the line HT2 build in XTR is 29.5 pounds and top of line Ripmo 2 in XTR build is 28 pounds. In most build configurations, there is about a pound difference between both bikes. Hope this helps.
Travel the Narrow Trail Wow thank you for the awesome detailed response of both bikes! Sounds like you can’t go wrong with either isn’t it an amazing world we live in today when there’s a big weight difference of a pound between each bike LOL pound and a half maybe.
@@shamrock4840 Your welcome... Yeah, I should have prefaced my comment by saying if weight is important to you. While it is noticeable in climbing, some people don't care about weight, some do. But yes, you can't go wrong with either bike. Check me out on youtube if wish. Ride on...
Very nice video and really informative! Keep em coming sir. Question: if in between sizes with ibis ripmo v2, lets say 5’9. Whats the best size to get M or L? It sucks i cant find a shop to try then right now. Thanks!
Sizing advice on the internet Is really tough as everyone is different. For the most part I recommend people size up. Most riders will benefit from the added stability of the larger frame vs the increased maneuverability of the smaller frame.
@@regularMattMatt The best way to find out about inventory would be to send an email to info@bebikes.com. They'll be able to sort you out better than I will.
All climbs wear me out faster than I'd like. I used to own an HD4, but it's been a while since I've ridden it. If my memory serves me right, I think the Ripmo climbs better. The seat tube is steeper which helps quite a bit. The bigger wheels hold their momentum better too.
The Ripmo still rides more like a trail bike. The 150 is Enduro through and through. The 150 climbs better than it should but still not as well as the Ripmo. On the DH the Ripmo feels more plush off the top where the Yeti has a "race" feel thats a little more supportive. If I had to choose one as an enduro race bike I'd go 150. If I had to pick one to ride any kind of trail from easy to hard, I'd pick the Ripmo.

Hey thanks! No I haven't noticed any. I'm on an XL frame and can't run my dropper all the way slammed though. With steeper seat tubes these days it's increasingly rare to find a bike that rubs the saddle at bottom out.
No time on the AF. Trying to get my hands on one to do a video. Curious to see how a $3000 bike stack up against the blingy ones I usually end up riding.
I think in terms of DH capability and overall versatility they are very similar. The Ripmo is way more plush and probably a better climber overall. The 130 LR suspension is very firm and supportive. It likes going fast.
@@drek4life It sounds like I'm in the same boat as you. Been really interested in the 130LR for a while after riding the 130 for a week and wanting a bit more travel. But the new Ripmo is a beauty and sounds pretty amazing. Either way will have one of the very best all mountain bikes on the market :).
@@bikersedge I rode the regular SB130 for a week and it made me fall in love with climbing. Super-fast climber and ate up crazy tech climbs like it was nothing... Is the 130LR similar? And how about the new Ripmo? That experience made me realize that I want a bike that climbs really well as well as descends really well. And thank you for all your work you put into these reviews, it shows.
I just ordered a Rimpo V2. I’m over researching these bikes and now I’m confused and wonder if the Ripley would be a better bike for me. I’m 5’10 185lbs. I want a good climber, weekly bike park(nothing extreme) and long trail rides like in your video. Stay with what I ordered or shot for a Ripley. Thoughts?
If you ride bike park I think you’ll be plenty happy on the Ripmo. It pedals well, does normal trail duty well and it’s a little more rugged for those tougher trails in the bike park.
SB130 is faster. The suspension platform is more supportive. The Ripmo is plusher. If I had to ride a nasty DH, I'd probably pick the 130LR. If I wanted to just go have fun on the bike I'd take the Ripmo.
Tough call. They're both similar in capability both up and down. They feel pretty different on the trail though. The Ripmo is more plush and responds better to small bumps. It feels a bit more agile and responds better to rider input. The 130LR feels fast and firm. It means business. It is very supportive and I wouldn't call it plush. I think it responds better to bigger hits at speed, though.
I’ve only ridden the Ripmo out of that group. Working on getting a Sentinel for review. We don’t carry Pivot so that one won’t happen. Sorry I’m not much help there.
Occam feels a little quicker and zippier. More like a traditional trail bike. The Ripmo feels a bit bigger and squishier. The Ripmo is more suited to difficult terrain and the Occam would be ideal for flowier and smoother trails.
@@bikersedge As someone between Ibis's sizing, did that feel like the right size or a little too big? Any interest in trying the large? I am 6'2.5" w/ 35" inseam and can only demo the Lrg, which felt a little short but doable and really fun! I am thinking sticking with the Lrg may help climbing and trail maneuverability overall, while not comprising the downs too much with the increased reach... any of your thoughts are greatly appreciated? thx
SC Hightower and the Yeti SB130 come to mind. All in the same category with some differences in feel between them. I go more into the SC Hightower comparison on our website - www.bebikes.com/the-hub/ibis-ripmo-v2-first-ride-review
Haven't spent enough time on a Reign 29 to make that call yet. I go more into the Ripmo vs HT comparison here www.bebikes.com/the-hub/ibis-ripmo-v2-first-ride-review
What size would you recommend..Im 6'1 195 lbs, 34 inseam. I can't decide between Large and XL. Any insight would be appreciated since I can't demo these bikes.
I’m always hesitant to give out size advice as people can vary so much. I’ll say that I’m 6’2” 180 and 34 inseam and I wouldn’t even consider the large.
It depends on your intentions. The extra progressive rear suspension is what makes the biggest difference for me. The Traction Tune is noticeable but i don't think it makes a huge difference between the two bikes. If you want to ride hard the V2 is better. If you want to ride flowy, smoother trails on a plush bike, the V1 is probably better overall.
By the way, the "traction tuned" suspension is only available in the DPx2 shock. It's basically Ibis' light tune on that shock. So it depends on you as a rider. If you are a heavier rider, you might not like that tune because you'll blow through the travel quicker. It's more for people around 190lbs and lower. It makes the bike a little more plush throughout. I would go with a Fox X2 or a DVO topaz. The Topaz should be available on the bikes soon, as they are available on the Ripmo AF.
Tough call. They're both great bikes. The Ripmo is more plush yet remains really poppy. The 130 has a firmer, more race-like feel to it. Both are versatile and capable bikes.
@@mattmiller7650 Thats a tough one. If you want the best climber out of those three its the Ripmo V1, although the other two will out descend it. The V2 and the 130 LR are fairly similar in terms of how capable they are on the descents. The 130 feels firmer and faster while the Ripmo V2 feels more plush and nimble. If you value the climbs that much and you have east coast style, rocky and twisty trails, the Ripmo V1 might be the best option for you followed by the V2 if you want a little more capability on the DH.
@@mattmiller7650 Its been a while since I've ridden that one, but I'd say it descends closer to a V1, although less capable, but climbs more like a V2.
Thats a good question. I think most average, every day riders that stick to mellower terrain could be better off on a shorter travel bike like the Ripley, Tallboy or Optic. But, in defense of the Ripmo and longer travel bikes in general, they ride smoother and give the rider more confidence. I would bet, most of the average riders on a Ripmo would feel like they could ride harder terrain because of the added confidence. Also, the Ripmo is plush, stable and forgiving. For someone lacking bike handling skills, a more forgiving bike can keep them from crashing. Thats a win in my book.
They are very different on trail. The Mega is an enduro bike through and through where the Ripmo is much more of a do it all bike. It climbs better than the Mega and is more versatile. Where, if all you want to do is charge hard trails, the Mega is the better option.
ruclips.net/video/iK_ghh7Drck/видео.html This video should sum it up. I know it's about the Ripmo V1 vs Ripley, but it is still very relevant for the Ripmo V2. The V1 climbs just a hair better than the V2.
I'm not super familiar with Vegas trails. It depends on your intentions. The extra progressive rear suspension is what makes the biggest difference for me. If you want to ride hard the V2 is better. If you want to ride flowy, smoother trails on a plush bike, the V1 is probably better overall.
Every once in a while I do a trailside exorcism. Pretty standard stuff. Wind will work its way under the windscreen and make the audio sound really bad. Working on a fix.

SB130 is faster. The suspension platform is more supportive. The Ripmo is plusher. If I had to ride a nasty DH, I'd probably pick the 130LR. If I wanted to just go have fun on the bike I'd take the Ripmo.
This vs the yeti Sb130LR ? About to pull the trigger on one of them looking for a little more input.
Do you were a prescription glasses? If so what type of sport glasses are you wearing ?a griffin mountain biking
No prescription. Just regular MTB glasses.
Biker's Edge thanks
Pivot Switchblade, Ibis Ripmo V2, or second gen transition sentinel??
I’ve only ridden the Ripmo out of that group. Working on getting a Sentinel for review. We don’t carry Pivot so that one won’t happen. Sorry I’m not much help there.
Where was this filmed? Stunningly beautiful!
Antelope Island!
Nice review. Great riding.
Thanks! 👍
Thanks for the detailed reviews. How would you compare this to the Orbea Occam?
Occam feels a little quicker and zippier. More like a traditional trail bike. The Ripmo feels a bit bigger and squishier. The Ripmo is more suited to difficult terrain and the Occam would be ideal for flowier and smoother trails.
@@bikersedge sounds good. I was looking for something quick between the Ripmo2 and the Ripley. Thanks for the info!
@@ojh7025 The Occam would fit the bill.
How would you compare this bike to the SB130 Lunch ride? Thanks!
We are currently working on an All-Mountain bike showdown. For the time being, the Ibis is more playful while the Yeti is all about going fast.
what size did you ride and how tall are you? Love the review
Hey thanks. I’m 6’2” and rode an XL.
what trails are these?
Antelope Island in Utah.
The second half of the video is a trail system called Fruit Loops in Fruit Heights/Kaysville area.
Great review. What size did you ride ?
Hey thanks. I rode an XL. I’m 6’2”
Hi , thanks for the great review , can you tell me that size you tested ?
XL. I'm 6'2".
@@bikersedge As someone between Ibis's sizing, did that feel like the right size or a little too big? Any interest in trying the large? I am 6'2.5" w/ 35" inseam and can only demo the Lrg, which felt a little short but doable and really fun! I am thinking sticking with the Lrg may help climbing and trail maneuverability overall, while not comprising the downs too much with the increased reach... any of your thoughts are greatly appreciated? thx
SB130 or Ripmo? And are you wearing Smith Wildcats?
Yes to the Wildcats.
The 130 is all about being fast and efficient. It’s not messing around. The Ripmo is more plush and playful.
Any comparable bikes you'd recommend with similar use cases?
SC Hightower and the Yeti SB130 come to mind. All in the same category with some differences in feel between them. I go more into the SC Hightower comparison on our website - www.bebikes.com/the-hub/ibis-ripmo-v2-first-ride-review
Nice review, how reign 29 compares to ripmo v2 and ht2 ? what do you think ?
Haven't spent enough time on a Reign 29 to make that call yet. I go more into the Ripmo vs HT comparison here www.bebikes.com/the-hub/ibis-ripmo-v2-first-ride-review
@@bikersedge thanks
Thanks for the review! What trail did you ride?
Antelope Island and Fruit Loops.
Biker's Edge thanks so much.
6'1" 170lbs 34" inseam. XL feels best. Larges are too cramped for me. Geo-wise, i like ~500mm reach with 35-40mm stem.
Hope that helps.
7:13 So this bike gets your soul speaking aswell I can hear!
Just a weird fart.
Is the V1 a better trail bike than the V2 if they both had traction tuned suspension?
Which did you enjoy more, sb130 yeti or the ibis ripmo?
Tough call. They're both great bikes. The Ripmo is more plush yet remains really poppy. The 130 has a firmer, more race-like feel to it. Both are versatile and capable bikes.
my fav channel for bike reviews! what tire combo would you suggest that has a good balance of grip and rolling resistance?
Hey thanks for the kind words!
Personally I’m running a Minion DHF front and Dissector rear. It’s a great combo.
@@bikersedge sweet! I can't wait for my Ripmo order. ETA hopefully in December! awesome bike.
Nice. You’re going to dig it.
So, Ripmo V1 or V2 and better than Yeti SB130 LR?? Tempted on both options.
I value the climb as much as the downhill. Lots of roots and rocks in PA. It has to be efficient. Thanks for the advice!!!
Biker's Edge thanks. That helps!
Biker's Edge one more addition, where would you place the Revel Rascal in this mix??? Seems like an awesome bike!!!
@@mattmiller7650 Its been a while since I've ridden that one, but I'd say it descends closer to a V1, although less capable, but climbs more like a V2.
here's the greater question: Why does an everyday, average rider need a bike like a Ripmo and can one unlock the potential of that bike?
Thats a good question. I think most average, every day riders that stick to mellower terrain could be better off on a shorter travel bike like the Ripley, Tallboy or Optic. But, in defense of the Ripmo and longer travel bikes in general, they ride smoother and give the rider more confidence. I would bet, most of the average riders on a Ripmo would feel like they could ride harder terrain because of the added confidence. Also, the Ripmo is plush, stable and forgiving. For someone lacking bike handling skills, a more forgiving bike can keep them from crashing. Thats a win in my book.
Do you know what stem length a XL comes with?
Ibis usually lets you pick your size stem. Average is probably 50mm.
you are fast AF
🤘
This or your megatower?
They are very different on trail. The Mega is an enduro bike through and through where the Ripmo is much more of a do it all bike. It climbs better than the Mega and is more versatile. Where, if all you want to do is charge hard trails, the Mega is the better option.
Hi, how does it climb compared to the Ripley?
ruclips.net/video/iK_ghh7Drck/видео.html
This video should sum it up. I know it's about the Ripmo V1 vs Ripley, but it is still very relevant for the Ripmo V2. The V1 climbs just a hair better than the V2.
v1 or v2 for a quiver killer in vegas?
I'm not super familiar with Vegas trails.
It depends on your intentions. The extra progressive rear suspension is what makes the biggest difference for me. If you want to ride hard the V2 is better. If you want to ride flowy, smoother trails on a plush bike, the V1 is probably better overall.
you mention the bike could benefit from some lighter weight faster rolling tires- what would you recommend for that bike?
It's hard to go wrong with Minions. I like the DHF.DHR combo. Lately I've been running a DHF on the front and the Dissector rear.
what's the trail at 9:00?
The intermediate blue trail at Fruit Loops.
📝
Where are you riding ? looks cool
A combo of two trail networks in Northern Utah. the first is Antelope Island and the second is Fruit Loops.
Need a better mic bro. Good vid.
Just using the internal GoPro mic. Not really much I can do about that.
What's with the demonic voice starting at 7:15?
Every once in a while I do a trailside exorcism. Pretty standard stuff.
Wind will work its way under the windscreen and make the audio sound really bad. Working on a fix.
You heard that too? I was like, what is all that?
What size are you on here?
6'2" on an XL.
@@bikersedge Awesome, was that a good fit for you? I'm 6'1" and ride an XL Ripmo "V1", curious how the fit is with it being a little longer.
@@1eskimo10 It was a great fit for me. It felt long and roomy without being too stretched out and cumbersome.
It fits a lot like the V1 Ripmo. It would be hard to tell the two apart honestly.
@@bikersedge Thanks for the insight. Love your vids by the way, great reviews!
Where is this trail?
Northern Utah. Antelope Island and Fruit Loops.
He said he was on antelope island. Great Salt Lake in Utah.
@@bikersedge Thanks! I am usually pretty good at figuring out where things are but this is a weird landscape. Couldn't figure where in America but Alaska you'd see such terrain by the "ocean". :D
@@chrisfox6065 The scenery out there is next level. It is unlike anything else in Utah really.
I lived in Syracuse. The island has a 7 mile cause way out to the island. You feel like you are in another world for sure. The island has Bison, antelopes and huge rabbits. Lots of horses on the trails too at times. And did I mention mosquitoes!!!!
“This hill....sucks ....” LOOOL
It's the worst.
Great vid! Utah?
Duh, If I watched the whole video before commenting I would have known where you are..lol!
