Wow! The Great Wall looks incredibly majestic even just from watching your videos. Can't imagine how amazing it must be to see it in person! Thank you for making this video - it's very professional and heartwarming, even better than some films company
I visited china in 1994 and looking back, it reminds me of my old memories back in the day, today I was fascinated of how much china has changed throughout the years.
I lived in Beijing from 2017 for 2 years it was amazing, I miss it so much.. Badaling was the first part of the wall I visited too, but I visited 3 another parts too and camped out to watch the sun rise ❤
I had the same emotional experience on the Great Wall. At first I was sceptical. What was so great about just some bricks stacked upon each other. But when I stepped on the wall, I felt the thousands years of history right beneath my feet, that realization humbled me and send goosebumps down my spine in amazement
This brings back such great memories of when I took my daughter Monica to the Great Wall on our way back to San Francisco from Chiang Mai in 2018! I had a broken foot when we visited, but I still climbed quite a bit and it was amazing!
Personally for me the best time to go to the great wall is in the winter because it's the cold offset your body heat walking and climbing the stairs. Imagine doing it on a hot day, probably can't cover much ground with a lot of sweating and heat.

I want to say it is only in China, that if someone takes your phone, they are trying to take a photo for you, and you won't be scared or think you are being robbed. Enjoy your time in China. If you want to understand China 2,000 years ago, you must come to Xi'an.
Not really. Only the terracotta warriors are 2000 years old - there's nothing else in Xi'an that's that old. And Xi'an doesn't have many ancient buildings in the city. It's not an attractive city for history buffs.
@@lingfengge6666 Besides the Terracotta Warriors, there is the Banpo matriarchal clan, and even further back, the Lantian ancients. Of course, too many ancient relics no longer exist. But to understand the rich history of a country or a civilization, it is not just about what you can see now. More importantly, it is the way that the cultural and historical heritage of thousands of years has brought to this city and the people living there, and the subtle historical accumulation, which is not available in other cities. So let me ask you a question, except for Xi'an, the ancient capital of 13 dynasties in ancient China, which other city is more suitable for understanding the culture and history of China at its most glorious time?

This is so much fun to watch. Beijing is even more beautiful in late summer and fall, the Fragrant Hill, the Summer Palace, Beihai Park, and tons of museums. Flag raising ceremony in the square is also a must see in Beijing.
If the people in the world were all similar to you guys, positive, fair, loving and most importantly truthful, I can't imagine how beautiful the world would have been!!!
You two are so cute! The only thing is maybe don't munch on the ice of the Great Wall (or whatever attraction it is) next time, because the maker of the ice might be that kitty lol! This video is making me homesick in the UK. Also, I really recommend going to Hangzhou, my hometown, for a visit if you have time, it is absolutely beautiful, extremely green, very modern and you will love it.
The Greatwall has been renovated to suits tourist and elderly. My 1st visit during 1999 the staicase is very high/steep and my 2nd visit was in 2017 whereby they have change it to tourist and elderly friendly staircase. The non-renovated strech is the ancient original brick which have the ancient achitecture feeling to it. ❤

Nice video! I went to the forbidden city recently, brought my big Olympus camera, rode videomic pro and a Joby tripod. No big issues. One guard didn't like my tripod, but once I argued that everyone else brought umbrellas without issues it was fine. The umbrellas were after all quite a bit larger than my small tripod 😀

Peking and Beijing are the same name written in Chinese 北京 ( mean Northern capital) The reason why name change in english is Mandarin became the official language in China during the 1950's. Peking is probably the cantonese pronounciation of the city.
Mandarin can play an important role in facilitating rapid communication and understanding among Chinese people from different regions. Beijing is not only pronounced as Peking and Beijing, but also as Baqin in Hubei
@@cktango3951 Beijing used to be called Beiping, and Chinese people called it Jingcheng. British people were ignorant and uncivilized, and they called it Beijing. They drew maps blindly and called place names randomly. Chinese people nowadays don't care about these things, just call them convenient, this is the personality of Chinese people.
Most of China's early engagement and trade was done in the south eastern parts of China, ie Guangzhou( Canton ) and Macau. The language barrier was mostly translated by the Cantonese. So early years of all things China was in phonetic tonal Cantonese spelling in English, pinyin. Like OP said, until Mandarin became the official Chinese language the change didn't take place. All were just phonetic pronunciation adjustments, names are the same.
For foreign friends who haven't been to the Great Wall: skip Badaling and go to Mutianyu instead. It's less crowded, has beautiful scenery, and is much more interesting.

I had a Chinese friend in Australia who also encountered this problem. The hotel could not accommodate him. The reason was: the Chinese government believed that only hotels that met certain comfort standards could accommodate foreign guests. Therefore, hotels needed to obtain certification, just like the standards of 3-star and 4-star hotels.
Beijing (literally north capital) became the capital in 1421 under the order of Ming dynasty's third Emperor Zhu Di, also known as Yongle, before that the capital was in Nanjing (literally south capital), Zhu di built the capital in Beijing closely to the great wall to defend the northern border, where the mongols were frequently invading and causing havoc in the north. Zhu Di was famously quoted "The Emperor shall defend the border himself"
Beijing was the capital of the Yuan dynasty (1271-1368), a Chinese dynasty led by Mongols, too. The city was literally the center of the world at that time.
@@directxxxx71 yuan was not widely regarded a “Chinese” dynasty by most Chinese, both due to its cultural differences and its short-lived 80 years reign
That’s not true. Yuan is recognized as a Chinese dynasty by all Chinese governments. Only radical nationalists did not recognize it, which can not represent the authentic opinion and mainstream views.
Some more highly recommended cities in China: Chengdu (famous for their famous spicy hot pot and peppers also home to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda breeding, where all of the Pandas you see in the world are from) which is close to Chongqing, Guangzhou (famous for dim sum and one of the biggest wildlife theme parks in the world local to Guangzhou), Xi’an (it is just as historically rich as Beijing as it has Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s grave and the famous Terracotta Army) Also maybe Shenzhen but I don’t really know any really cool places you could visit there
Fantastic show as always! I think my wife and I are both very jealous normally it is me who has travelled the most! You didn't include much food in this show!
In minute 7:46, what you all said together is a Chinese New Year wish in Cantonese. So, I am assuming this video was filmed around Chinese New Year this year?
Fantastic to see the Great Wall through your eyes guys, thank you. Finally some videoing that shows the height of the steps and the steepness of the wall in places. I did it in my late 60's and my legs were like jelly on downward walk. Yes, loved the railings..lol Well done taking the taboggan !
Before visiting Beijing, you even researched some background of traditional Chinese architecture, the Forbidden City, and the Great Wall, that's so cool! Because Beijing is not so easy to understand for a little knowledge visitor. By the way, the Great Wall is indeed stunning.

Welcome.
Have fun and stay safe
It will be different vibe if you visit in winter (Snow White. But very cold) and autumn (beautiful leaves).
Wow. China is beautiful, modern and safe. Thanks for showing us
Some more highly recommended cities in China:
Chengdu (famous for their famous spicy hot pot and peppers also home to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda breeding, where all of the Pandas you see in the world are from) which is close to Chongqing,
Guangzhou (famous for dim sum and one of the biggest wildlife theme parks in the world local to Guangzhou),
Xi’an (it is just as historically rich as Beijing as it has Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s grave and the famous Terracotta Army)
Also maybe Shenzhen but I don’t really know any really cool places you could visit there

Looks that you'd gone to Beijing during the May Golden Week, one of the busiest travel seasons in China. But you kept up a good spirit! Subscribed!
不是5月的北京,是冬天。5月的北京已经比较温暖了,树已经很绿了。
Love the way you two show respect to new countries and cultures!
Those drone-like videos taken from the Great Wall of China were awesome! Simply wow! 👍🏼
In minute 7:46, what you all said together is a Chinese New Year wish in Cantonese. So, I am assuming this video was filmed around Chinese New Year this year?
I also think so as 恭喜发财 is one of many wishes used during the lunar new year.
people are so friendly and nice there
As a Chinese, truly hoping you guys have a chill time in china .love it
Fantastic to see the Great Wall through your eyes guys, thank you.
