Never heard of an RV inspection, but then I’ve never bought an RV. Planning on a truck camper within the next year, so was wondering how you go about getting it inspected? Are there “RV Inspection” companies out there? Really good info, thanks for calling bullsh*t on some of these money grabbing “services” that dealers encourage. ✌🏼
Any recommendations for 3rd party extended RV(Motor home) warranties? I know that there are a lot of them out there for regular cars like "Car Shield" that will quickly take your money but will deny every repair and never pay for anything. How & where do you get a 3rd party RV inspection done? I'm looking to buy my 1st RV. Thank you for your help.
Try to rent the model you are interested in buying. My wife and I thought the 16 foot Airstream Basecamp would be perfect for us. We decided to rent one and take it to a local State Park and spend a weekend living in it. We quickly realized it was too small for the two of us. Our thinking was on a rainy day we would be walking all over each other. This lead us to buying a 25 foot version and we have been very happy with our decision. It isn't too small or too big for use.
Learn to walk away. Years ago I had a salesman say “ you going to walk away from this deal for $250.00”. Yes, then. A week later I noticed they had the same exact vehicle listed for the price I said I would pay, I saved $2000.00 by walking away.
What I always say is, "I am only inquiring about the price for the ____. I don't discuss financing or trading in until we settle on the price." I have walked out of a dealerships who persistently kept asking. I had one sales manager say to me, "well, that's how we do business." I replied, " it's not how I do business and I'm not doing it that way." I have allegedly paid more, but not when you figure in financing.
I recently walked out of a Toyota dealer because they insisted on negotiating payments instead of the out the door price. HUGE red flag that they want to hide unnecessary fees and pad the price!
Thank you so much for this video. We opted for our "Semi Retirement home" begining of Covid. Now we are back to looking at RVs and your video has been invaluable for our new search for our retirement vacation home. Though we really want a motor home, we looked at travel trailers t get a feel of all our options. So we will continue to look at motor homes. definitely, Diesel, now if it is a C class or A...
If you buy a motorized RV, the RV portion and the motorized portion usually have different warranties respectively. Not all dealerships can service both. Great video!
I made the mistake of buying a new Thor Outlaw 37’ Class A Toy Hauler. That thing was a lemon, constantly in the shop, the roof leaked, even after sealing every possible place it could be, the door hinges rusted, every hinge inside popped out of the cabinets, elevator bed got stuck, and when I pulled the bedroom drawers out there was saw dust all over the electronics. Trim pieces kept falling off. If I had to do it all over again, I’d get the 3rd party inspection and skip Thor Class A products.
I almost bought a Thor Outlaw C toy hauler earlier this year. "Bells" in my head wouldn't let me commit. Your comment and, my further reviewing online reviews of other RVs by Thor, convince me that I was lucky to have not purchased.
Very good video and tips. In 2016 we bought a brand new Open Range Light 297RLS. We were newbies but got very lucky with this RV. We go on multiple regional trips every year and have been on 3 cross country trips. It has yet to go to the shop for repairs. Just to a local, non-dealer to replace and lube the wheel bearings just in case, before last fall's desert SW trip. You never know when an RV will need repair though. So there are SOME well made RVs out there.
I picked up my brand new camper once and the compressor line on the fridge was frozen solid during the walk through. The manufacturer claimed there needed to be a baffle installed in the wall. I was back 2 days later for it to sit for three months waiting on a new compressor (pre-covid at that). The hour and a half drive one way was the icing on the cake.
Be ready to lose money on your RV because you will. Be ready for down time in the dealership for repairs, more times than not for months. RVing is fun but expensive. Most salespeople are not RVers and know little about what they're talking about real life. I'm on my 4th RV in 15 years.
keep in mind selling your RV or trading it remember your TAX saving when trading SO if you sell make sure to make enough to cove the taxes on your new RV.
If you purchase an rv on. F53 chassis plan on spending an additional 3-5 thousand dollars to get a decent (not great) but decent upgraded steering suspension. E-trailer had all the parts for our 2019 Winnebago intent that had been field testing and were a breeze to install. As you stated it’s hard to find rv shops to do repairs, just try to find one to install upgrades to your suspension. All the suspension upgrades we have done have been able to be installed by me. E-trailer has videos on how to install and an experienced team to answer questions when or if they should come up. No I do not work for E-trailer but there customer service is over the moon. Really enjoy your channel.
Great advice and insight. Thank You. It is folks like you, experienced and willing to speak on the subject, that are a major plus to the RV Community. Again thank you.
Excellent tips.....great info guys! Can't stress enough about getting your own private inspector. The dealer might say that they do a very thorough inspection. I say, I understand, but I'd like everything verified since your tech works for you, and my inspector is working for me. As Izzy and MJ said, if the dealer is opposed to a private inspector....walk! My RV that I'm buying was inspected this past Wednesday. It was a 6 1/2 hour inspection complete with a thorough report and pictures. Also with that, I had a Fluid Analysis Report done. If you are buying a pre-owned unit....GET THE FLUID ANANLYSIS! Yes it is extra, but worth it. The inspector takes a sample of the Coolant, Engine Oil, Transmission Oil, and Generator Oil. These samples are then sent out to a lab to be analyzed. This type of testing will give you a true understanding of what's happening in the engine, finding corrosion, seizing, or something that could be potentially very costly down the road. The cost of my inspection was $600 + $129 for the fluid analysis report. Not cheap, but worth the piece of mind. My report is supposed to come back emailed to me on Monday. If all checks out, I'll take delivery probably Tuesday or Wednesday next week....Keep ya posted.
@@leeamm1 Since I was a few hundred miles away from my area, I just relied on Google and read the reviews. The gentleman I used had 5 star reviews... nothing less than 5 stars and every person that made a comment mention how thorough and nice and accommodating that he was. Can't go wrong with that right?
Jud Rose thank you! I did read further down in the comments. There is a site--NRVIA.org -- which is an excellent site to find RV inspectors across the nation.
We are looking to buy our first Motorhome to live in full time. We came across this from Matt’s RV Reviews. Really good info. We also have been very impressed with Matt and General RV Center. Thanks again for your channel. Mike D.
Excellent advice which I will follow to the latter. I wouldn’t buy any motorhome without having an independent inspection. If I found the perfect rig for the perfect price it would be subject to an independent inspection. Any issues that were unknown or hidden would either have to be repaired to the inspector’s complete satisfaction and at the dealerships costs or I would walk away no matter what. Great advice which will save people potentially $ thousands $$$👌✌️💫
In your case of trading in vs selling your old rv privately? Remember that if your old rv is traded in, the new purchase price is lowered by that amount, and you may save $7500 or more because there is no sales tax on the value of the trade in. Dealers are all aware kf this and often use it to make their lowball offer seem like a better bargain overall.
Finding a dealership is the hardest part. U Tube is a great place also. I didn’t test drive a Super C before I bought mine either, but I have driven big trucks a lot and that wasn’t a big deal for me. But Do Your Research that is Key !! Thanks Guys Great Tips For Sure !
Yes, finding a dealership is the toughest part. I’m interested in getting a Newmar; however, there aren’t many dealerships from which to choose. The nearest to me is Dylan’s RV and it’s over 100 miles away.
We intended to purchase a class A RV the spring/summer of 2021. We had been looking at RV trader to get an idea of what was available and at what cost. An RV showed up early January for sale by the current owner that we decided to purchase. We talked with the current owner and scheduled a shared expense RVIA inspection. Three weeks later we flew down to South Carolina, did an in person walk thru and test drive, and then bought the RV. The inspection put both of us at ease. I knew what the owner had said was true. Both of us knew that there were no "Hidden" issues that needed to be dealt with. Always have the RV inspected.
Thank you for the helpful tips. I am in the early stages of the buying process, including researching and understanding the do's and don'ts process for my first Class A RV. This RV purchase will be a temporary home for a new assignment job away from my home-base and these are valuable tips for the newbie buyer as myself.
Fantastic tips and information guys. I hadn’t thought about observing the dealerships repair shop. That was a great point to bring up. These tips are perfect for any newbie or seasoned RVer. Thanks for sharing.
We learned one of your lessons the hard way. The place we bought our rv takes months to get an appointment. So if you have an emergency repair you're out of luck.
💰💰💰. 😇. Even if you’re going to rent an RV make sure they give you some kind of documentation that they’ve checked the coach out thoroughly and checked out the propane system to make sure there’s no leaks and there’s no leaks of carbon monoxide in the couch when you run the furnace.
BOY! If I'd watched this before tonight's Travels With Delaney live chat wouldn't have messed with you. Great video. Remember all that stuff from when we bought our current hybrid TT. We are now looking to upgrade to TT in 27-30' range. Another tip is not to finance any upgrades you want if you can avoid it. Either pay cash now or slowly add after purchase if you can wait. Thanks again!
I’ve watched hundreds of hours of RV videos on RUclips in preparation to buy my first one. Several talked about, as you did, third-party inspection. None got in any details on HOW. So how does a novice like me even know where/how to find an inspector and the mechanics of getting the inspector to go to a private seller from whom I want to buy the RV. Would really appreciate a video on step-by-step instructions on how to go about finding an inspector to do the job. Thanks.
This is where you would find an inspector. nrvia.org/locate/ We also do phone consultations where we could discuss more in depth the buying process, if you wish to email us for more information.
I actually have been to 3 places almost buying one but what did I know about buying a RV.This video is definitely a big plus, thank you going back to watch it again and take notes
It is normal for finance companies to pay a "commission" back to dealers. So if you finance through the dealer, they can sell you the vehicle for less, because they are getting that kickback from the financer. That's not a red flag, that's the industry. If there is no prepayment penalty, you can even get a better deal by taking the dealer financing and paying the loan off in full shortly afterward. (And refinancing with a better loan source if you prefer.)
I got financing before I went to buy. I knew what I could afford so I knew it would not be new the second time around. I went to El Monte RV and bought a used Class C. Paid it off in a year and 3 months.
James-How are things going with your RV? I'm considering visiting El Monte RV. Can you recommend them? This will be my first time buying an RV. Thanks:)
Excellent information! I love all of this!! We were selling ours privately but we live in it and were planning to work around the build timing. And then a few flags arose...we believe it's not the right time either. We will deal with this timing and wait it out. We heard about cracks in the frame of 2 models we were talking about on the groups. I'm not comfortable with that. We're back looking at Grand Design again. And we definitely believe in 3rd party inspection! You gave so much complete and accurate information here for anyone just getting into this. Anyone going into this should definitely take notes and follow these steps. We're lucky enough to have been in this 5+ years and know exactly what you are trying to teach. Also a little piece of information about the lack of RVs, there's lack of inventory of things going into the building of RVs that's causing problems. You said it right...not a good time to buy.
Another suggestion. If you can when you find the RV you will probably get, go the factory and do their tour and see how it's made. As far PDI I went into a dealer and looked at a new RV, I pulled open a drawer in the kitchen to see how smooth they operate, the slide for the drawer on one side wasn't even attached so check drawers and doors.
One little note on trading in vs selling privately. I'm not a current Rv'er, just exploring the idea, however I would assume Rvs are just like cars, you pay sales tax based on net sale. If you are buying a 100k unit and they are giving you 20k on your trade, your sales tax is based on 80k. If you decide to sell yourself, your sales tax is based on 100k. So now you need to subtract the additional taxes you paid from the additional you received from your private sales. Add in hassle, decide if you actually did better.
You guys are the bomb! That's why we love watching you. Everything you have talked about in your last few videos; Don't Do It!, Do It!, and The Secret, are everything Dee and I have thought about, talked about, and considered before we make our purchase next year. One thing you might want to add to your list of of things is... "If you don't own a home or have a permanent address financing will be difficult and more expensive." We learned this straight from a salesperson AND a finance manager from a well known large dealership. By the time I'm done I'm sure you will get the general idea. Our plan was to sell our sticks and bricks, take the proceeds from the sale and purchase our RV with 50%+ down, and have enough left over to start traveling. The salesperson informed us it would be harder to get it financed because we didn't have a permanent residence. Just fyi, when we go to a dealership we tell the salesperson right up front "we are not buying today" you would be surprised at the difference in the service we get. Anyway, wanting to get on the road as soon as possible I called the same dealership that we went to and asked to talk to "someone in finance". I ended up leaving a voicemail, but my call was returned within 24 hours. I explained our plan and asked about financing. He was very up front and gave me the name of an institution that would finance us and the difference between having a residence and not. The finance interest would jump 1-1.5%. That may not sound like a lot but over 15-20 years on...to use your example of 100k dollars, that's a lot of money. We also agree on the extended warranty, and DEFINITELY spend the money on a professional RV inspector. We have been researching and reviewing things for five years. May seem like a long time, but Dee was still working until last December. Although we have done our homework thoroughly, we still appreciate your input and respect your experience and expertise. Izzy, if you can't trust a cop, who can you trust. We love you guys and wish you could be in Richmond on Tuesday would love to meet you. Chief, Dee and Lucy🐾 4EverLand RV
Thanks for sharing your experience. Good stuff. We won't be at the meetup unfortunately- a little far for us during a workweek. :/ Thanks guys for watching! - MJ
Nice video, we purchased our first MH site unseen from Dallas TX, same as the second one, but, we ordered that one. Being from NJ we learned our lesson and know they will service it (but, yet we always go to Nappanee anyway) and bought from So. Jersey even though we’re from No. Jersey. Dealer was not NEARlY as good as the Dallas one, but we settled due to being able to store at their dealership in the winder due to the fact we purchased from them. You have some great advise for others in hear. Thanks for sharing! BTW. We love our Newmar and love going to their factory service and BS’ing with all of the other great folks there
Gave you a thumbs up and havent even watched the entire video.Ive watched a lot of videos and you put a lot of information,it would take 3 videos combined to equal this one
Absolutely fabulous information! Thanks so much. I am looking for an RV for business and for family (2 units) and the information you guys put out is invaluable! With the information I have from your videos the dealer is going to have to work for this one!!!
I’m new to your channel. We are currently saving for our first motor home purchase. We have so far landed on a Jayco Redhawk 22c SE. From what I see and have learned so far I want a gently used 1 year old or less with 10,000km or less and some time on the generator etc. as we hope to avoid that initial off the lot depreciation as well we hope some of the warrantied kinks have been worked out. I really appreciate this direct and straight shooting video. I just finished ready several reviews about the dealership we think we want to deal with, the salesman spent an hour with us even though we told him straight away we are still saving and looking to narrow down our ideal coach. I think the amount of research was appreciated by the salesman who remained attentive and invested in providing us a great first time experience. I am hesitant now that I see a pattern in post purchase service so we may ask him a bunch of questions in this area or start to look elsewhere. Thank you for all the great things to consider and save extra for our first RV purchase. We are excited to keep learning with you until we pull the trigger on our new adventure. Cheers
Thank you guys SO MUCH for this awesome advice, this part is the most hated and dreaded process of getting litter screwed out of thousands of hard earned money and driving away happy with the deal .
Great video. If you buy a new Rv and U get water or damage and dealer will not help U. Lawyer free of charge will take dealer to court and will have to buy back ur rv. Its the law called buy back.
I really appreciate your no nonsense, objective insight that you provide from actual experience! I have a pop-up camper right now, but my goal is to upgrade eventually. Your advice reaffirms my reluctance to settle for a substandard RV.
You guys are not "bashing" dealers or salesmen---you are educating the buyers. Don't forget to add storage fees (if needed) to the calculations. I am looking for my first coach. I have been researching for months and have visited countless dealerships and have been in dozens of different coaches but none of them was "the one" for me. Three days ago I was driving to Walmart and I saw "the one"!!! It is a 2013 King Aire. She is the most beautiful coach I have ever seen. It dwarfed the 2012, 43-foot Discovery parked next to her. Tonight I will do the research on insurance and call the dealership this week to find out more details.
Pulled the trigger on a used 2020 Winnebago Outlook 22c - only 4,000 miles - great price - feeling lucky??? We will soon find out - after months of research we feel lucky we found one near us!
I’m researching my first RV purchase. Ive bought homes and vehicles; yet , none of those purchases were as complicated as buying an RV. It seems there are many more variables and pitfalls involved. I REALLY enjoy your videos. Although I live in PA, I grew up in Hudson County and your “NJ” sense speaks to me!.
2nd purchase of lance TT. I use third party surveyor to purchase used boats. If I want the boat I offer asking price then have survey and then the negotiation process really begins.
Good morning MJ and Izzy! I hope all is well with you and Jason. Thank you very much for the tremendous tips! Yes...these are very important recommendations! A pre purchase inspection can definitely help curb the risk of having an undetected slow cancer eating away at your new rig. Safe travels!!
Hi this is the second video of yours my husband and I have watched and we want to thank you for being there for the consumers. In 2021 or 2022 we want to buy our first RV. It’s scary out there of what, how to do things, especially in our late 50s & early 60s. Thank so very much for helping us out. We will watch all your videos. 👍🇨🇦
I just subscribed to your channel. I finally found a channel that gives very useful information and just doesn't take you to view the trips they took. When I buy my 1st RV I'm taking you 2 with me lol. This is an amazing channel that I will share with alot of friends. Thank you so much for "Leveling the playing field". P.S. izzy do I detect a N.Y. accent? Hey bro I'm from Queens, N.Y.
Winnebago, Tiffin & Newmar RV Dealers are required to service any customer, regardless of where they bought the RV. Now, with that said... probably will not get the priority service. Great Video!
My wife and I bought our first class A motorhome about 2 months ago. We included a warranty and paid for a PDI (not sure this is the norm). In our "excitement", something about the warranty didn't feel right; nonetheless, we got it. We kept asking questions about it, but the finance guy was a "smooth talker". But, we did ask if we could cancel it at anytime and he said yes. To make a long story short, we canceled the warranty which resulted in over $7000 coming off the loan and got our own warranty for about $4000. In order to get the warranty, they had to do an inspection. They found a leak in one of the leveling jacks, and a light up front wouldn't come on. As I said, I don't know if paying for a PDI is the norm, but it came with a 30-day period where they would fix major issues/components. Under the PDI, the dealership fixed the jack, the electrical issue, and a generator issue we noticed where it would shut off after a short period of time. Thanks for sharing your experiences...stay safe!!
Thanks for sharing. You should it have to pay for a PDI that is normally done by the dealership. You also confirmed the reason why we always suggest a 3rd party inspection prior to purchase. Thanks for sharing.
Very helpful video! Being a first-time buyer, I'm a little nervous now -- so much to worry about! But I really appreciate the wisdom you've shared from your experiences.
Years ago, I was considering buying stock in a known RV maker business. After hearing all of the “imperfections” and how RVs are made and problems that RVs have, I am glad I did not buy stock in any of those companies. I am pleased to learn that cargo vans are much better choices and have decided to target used Ford Transits in my search. I have had it suggested to me to consider an already converted van to cut down on the costs of building the interior. My question now, is, how can you tell how well the interior is prepared and insulated, wired , plumbed and free of rust?
I have an infrared camera ( like the kind they used to find the Boston bomber. He showed his body heat as red and white while hiding under a boat) while I purchased it to detect problem areas in horses we were also taught that it shows insulation and i.perfections in the walls, floors, ceiling etc. I have never tried it for that application. I will take that along with me when I go to purchase.
I bought a 1993 diesel pusher made by Fleetwood at 80,000 miles on it so it had been used every year it’s 36 foot and it’s delightful and there are some repairs I had to make but so what it was like $170,000 vehicle in 1993 and I paid less than that considerably less I said I paid in the one digit segment so I got an opportunity to work on the motorhome I put complete solar on it I live in it’s just delightful I suggest everybody stays away from a brand spanking new one because they think that it’s gonna work perfect. They don’t work perfect it may be new and shiny but it’s not perfect. I heard somewhere or somebody say that taking a motorhome down the highway is like taking a house through a hurricane and earthquake all at the same time. Enjoy your journey boys and girls listen to these people when they talk to you about buying a vehicle they’re giving it one step further than buying an automobile and that one step further will save you lots and lots of headaches so pay close attention
Outstanding video, thanks for all the tips. Izzy, have and MJ ever thought of doing factory tours, you two have a lot of viewers, and I am sure, like me, we enjoy your honest opinions on the factory’s.
GREAT video, first bought new, 2nd bought from individual. First dealer same manuf would do nothing to help on second bought from individual, but they were not that helpful/responsive anyway :)
All very good tips just wish I had seen this video before my wife and I made most of those mistakes. My theory though is with cars, or RVs is no matter how good a deal you get, and it may be great ,you still got the shaft. Before I retired I had a very dedicated Christian lady in my carpool who quit her job at a car dealership because she could not stand to see the way they stole from and cheated their customers.
Thank you, great video; lots of good info presented well. I had already thought about 3rd party inspection, nice to have you affirm this idea. Haven’t owned rv yet, gathering info.
great video... on first mh , a coachmen, from large mid georgia dealer... we bought the tire warranty... later found out that dealer , cancelled it a few weeks after sale!! and did not tell us... they kept the $$ and there were some initial things that were wrong. dealer promised to fix them before final sale. didn't. so we left. went back, dealer still hadn't fixed... at closing table at bottom line, i said deduct 1000. for unrepaired items... they got upset. showed out.. i told them that when repairs made, we'd pay the extra 1000. they never completed repairs... by cj
Great points. I found the best price on a Rockwood Roo 235s from a dealer 6 miles from the factory in Indiana. It's a 10hr drive from our home near Philadelphia. I will check to make sure the local Rockwood dealers will service it. I'm not sure how they can refuse if they carry the brand. Thanks for the heads up.
Certainly check if they will service. They may not refuse but you may go to the back of the line and that line can be weeks or months long. We know from experience. Congrats on your purchase. Izzy
I bought an RV several years ago and had the exact situation happen as described in this video. the sealant around the roof was not completed thoroughly. We had severe rot in the roof and side walls. For this reason I said I would never buy another RV ! This video helps. I MIGHT ??
Thank you! Really helpful info. I've finally found my "sweet spot" 35 foot toyhauler 5th (1 to 3 years old). This is other peoples sweet spot too because when ever I find one it sells pretty quickly. Then I have to decide if i'm going to drive 600 to 800 miles to get it. I had one here in fort worth but it sold too fast. I thought after labor day things would slow down.
Bought my first one two years ago. From a dealer. Got a good base price but I got nailed in the finance department with over-inflated warranty and junk fees. I thought I did good because of the base price. End result was just okay. Planning to buy my next one early next year after the market settles out some

Good decision thanks for sharing.
Izzy
Learn to walk away. Years ago I had a salesman say “ you going to walk away from this deal for $250.00”. Yes, then. A week later I noticed they had the same exact vehicle listed for the price I said I would pay, I saved $2000.00 by walking away.
Thanks for sharing.
There ya go, Roy People always have to be willing to walk away and go elsewhere. Thanks for your experience. 👍 - MJ
Yes that is true and you are correct on who will honor the warranty. Thanks for sharing.
Izzy
You guys are thorough, knowledgeable, and truthfully, pleasant to listen to. Very good audio and video. All around wonderful job. Thanks.
Wow, thank you! We appreciate your kind words. :) - MJ
I made the mistake of buying a new Thor Outlaw 37’ Class A Toy Hauler. Trim pieces kept falling off. If I had to do it all over again, I’d get the 3rd party inspection and skip Thor Class A products.
Sorry to hear that but not surprised. Thor has not made a good name for itself in the industry. Hopefully you can get it worked out.
I almost bought a Thor Outlaw C toy hauler earlier this year. "Bells" in my head wouldn't let me commit. Your comment and, my further reviewing online reviews of other RVs by Thor, convince me that I was lucky to have not purchased.
Thank you for your support and service to our country. I see more people standing up for our freedom!
I picked up my brand new camper once and the compressor line on the fridge was frozen solid during the walk through. The manufacturer claimed there needed to be a baffle installed in the wall. Be ready to lose money on your RV because you will. Be ready for down time in the dealership for repairs, more times than not for months. RVing is fun but expensive. Most salespeople are not RVers and know little about what they're talking about real life. I'm on my 4th RV in 15 years.
Thanks for your thoughts, Steve. - MJ
What types Of RVs have you owned?
keep in mind selling your RV or trading it remember your TAX saving when trading SO if you sell make sure to make enough to cove the taxes on your new RV.
We agree. Thanks for sharing
I'm buying next year. Thank you for the great advice
Great advice and insight. Thank You. It is folks like you, experienced and willing to speak on the subject, that are a major plus to the RV Community. Again thank you.
Thanks so much, Tom. We appreciate you and your support. - MJ
Very exciting. Good luck! - MJ

Jud Rose how do you find a reparable RV inspector?
Mike D.
Glad to have you here!
Right, so you had that truck driving experience already so knew what to expect. I hear ya. Thanks for your thoughts Don! - MJ
Thanks for sharing
Thank you for the helpful tips. I am in the early stages of the buying process, including researching and understanding the do's and don'ts process for my first Class A RV. This RV purchase will be a temporary home for a new assignment job away from my home-base and these are valuable tips for the newbie buyer as myself.
Great, glad it helped. Go in knowledgable. Thanks for watching, James. - MJ
Fantastic tips and information guys. I hadn’t thought about observing the dealerships repair shop. That was a great point to bring up. These tips are perfect for any newbie or seasoned RVer. Thanks for sharing.

I never thought about checking out that area before purchasing until watching this video.
I'll be sure and check before purchasing one now though.

Really great information. I have to watch this again. 3am is not a good time to watch such an important video.
someguyonLI yes you want to know the material. Thanks for watching and the comment.

We learned one of your lessons the hard way. The place we bought our rv takes months to get an appointment. So if you have an emergency repair you're out of luck.
Yep. That is the sad truth no dealer will tell you. Thanks for watching and the comment
💰💰💰. 😇. Even if you’re going to rent an RV make sure they give you some kind of documentation that they’ve checked the coach out thoroughly and checked out the propane system to make sure there’s no leaks and there’s no leaks of carbon monoxide in the couch when you run the furnace.
We are exploring the RV possibility. A great useful vid.
Glad it was helpful!
I hadn't thought about a 3rd party inspection on delivery/PDI. Thanks for the tip!

How do find a 3rd party inspector ❓
@@jasonbailey1166 See the link in a prior comment
LOL No worries. Thanks for watching and your thoughts Wayne! - MJ

We also do phone consultations where we could discuss more in depth the buying process, if you wish to email us for more information.

Right on the spot with info! I will never again by a new RV from a dealer knowing what I know now. And the inspection is vital. Thomyt
You got it. Always get that inspection. Thanks Thomas. 👍 - MJ
Thanks for sharing James.
Izzy
James-How are things going with your RV? I'm considering visiting El Monte RV. Can you recommend them? This will be my first time buying an RV. Thanks:)
@@kimyarger4506 The prices are a bit higher now. But the RVs available are newer. You have to check them out and decide for yourself.
Thanks for sharing Mary Lou. :) Hope this can help buyers get the most out of the process- MJ
We have been to numerous factories and yes take your time with PDI. Thanks for sharing.
Izzy
So much useful information for first time RV buyers. Thank you.
Thank you Michael.
Izzy
One little note on trading in vs selling privately. I'm not a current Rv'er, just exploring the idea, however I would assume Rvs are just like cars, you pay sales tax based on net sale. If you are buying a 100k unit and they are giving you 20k on your trade, your sales tax is based on 80k. If you decide to sell yourself, your sales tax is based on 100k. So now you need to subtract the additional taxes you paid from the additional you received from your private sales. Add in hassle, decide if you actually did better.
Thanks for your input. 👍
"If you don't own a home or have a permanent address financing will be difficult and more expensive."
We learned this straight from a salesperson AND a finance manager from a well known large dealership.

Thanks for the information. I'm considering buying one RV for 2 to 4 or even 6 persons....
BTW. We love our Newmar and love going to their factory service and BS’ing with all of the other great folks there
Yes, the Newmar Factory is a blast! Thanks and glad you liked the video. Happy travels. :) - MJ

Thanks for the info. One of the few upside to trading in your RV is that it will reduce the sales tax on the purchase of the new RV.

Cheers
Best of luck to you Will. Thanks for being here!

King Aire is a fine coach, good luck on your purchase.

Amazing sound advice! Thank you both for your honesty and sharing your knowledge and experiences to help others have realistic expectations.

Factory tour will answer a lot of your questions.
Izzy
I have an infrared camera ( like the kind they used to find the Boston bomber. He showed his body heat as red and white while hiding under a boat) while I purchased it to detect problem areas in horses we were also taught that it shows insulation and i.perfections in the walls, floors, ceiling etc. I have never tried it for that application. I will take that along with me when I go to purchase.
Great info. Keep up the great work. And for sure 3rd party inspection !!!!!!!
