- Krazy Glue and Super Glue are a couple of "CA" glue adhesive I use frequently in the workshop for permanent and temporary uses like clamping wood, metal, plastic or fixing and repairing wood and even creating new woodworking projects and jigs. We also show you how to use super glue and baking soda.

I love how your examples are all spalted beautifully
Your tips are great! I've watched other woodworking how to videos and people filling wood knots with "something" that I can never identify. This is exactly what I needed to see! Thank you so much now I know the trick! 😉
I like the fact that I see you trying to pull it apart, I thought it wouldn't hold under pressure like that. Thats awesome, I buying it now.
Thanks for the video. I was at rockler and was looking at the CA glues but was a bit confused and didn't want to spend that much on glue since I was not sure about it. You cleared it all up now... Thanks again
Good my uncle super video superman my grandfather 💖💖💖💖👌👌🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
Thanks Colin, I can use that/ those ideas especially for knotted wood.
Thank you for this video, it answered my question as to why my hardware stores were selling accelerator but not selling the specific glues that go with the accelerator!
Lesson learned: I used to have a shop with poor air circulation. But even using lacquer and other volatile materials, I could put up with the odors to a certain degree. I bought a large-size amount of CA to glue some turning material together. Yes, I could smell the strong odor. But for the first time in my 40+ years of tinkering around in the woodworking shop, I actually started to be overcome by the effects of that CA! Fortunately, I got outside as quick as I could, but it took about 20 minutes for me to begin to feel better. These days, I still breath probably too much lacquer and other types of fumes, but when I use CA, I make sure I've got air circulation and a fresh air supply! For me, those fine print warnings on the container of CA really are the truth!
Stay safe! Thanks for watching.
The main ingredient is cyanide. www.ncbe.reading.ac.uk/SAFETY/SDS/Superglue.pdf warns that is an irritant and some people are more sensitive to the vapours.
Wow thank you! This will make so many projects easier! I’ve never heard of accelerator, never considered super glue could be used for working with wood. Dry aniline wood stain! never heard of that! Great tips thank you!
For filling knot holes, coffee grounds and CA or epoxy glue work very well.
I must get some of that accelerater. I use super glue as a sort of clamp to hold a piece while the main glue sets. Most recently on the ceiling of a boat cabin, to hold sections of wood with a the main glue being epoxy which takes a while to set in cold conditions. I put the superglue in the corners of the wood and the bulk of epoxy in the centre. The super glue sets but still needs me to hold it for a few minutes. This accelerater would help me move along with the jobs. I also use super glue to hold parts together for wood turning as it can be brittle and a tap in the right place gets them apart. I am really enjoying alll of your videos, and your presentation is just right for me. Thank you Colin.
I just subscribed to your channel for the simple reason your down to earth . Got to get me a bottle of CA accelerator.
Your videos are filled with great information. I am a pen turner and and use CA glue several times a day, and you have taught me one more time something new. thank you
Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching!
fantastic and down to earth video
Love your great videos for newbies.
Colin - there are huge differences in the quality of CA glue and you get what you pay for. The best I’ve found by far is FastCap’s 2P-10. I buy their kit that has 4 viscosities from one that is as thin as water... to a thick gel.. some accelerator and a de-bonder for $30. The thinnest one will suck itself into all kinds of hairline cracks in stringed instruments that would be impossible to glue any other way. I also use it all the time to repair de-bonded face veneers, loose binding, and damaged plywood edges. Re: baking soda - we use CA plus baking soda to rebuild damaged guitar nuts- fill the top-deep slot w soda.. hit it with CA and you have something hard as a rock that can then be re-slotted.
Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching!
Where do you get the kit for $30.00? I paid almost that for a small bottle and a small can of activator.
Tip: you have temporarily glued two or more pieces of wood together with CA, and now you want to get them apart.
You can smite the joint against a surface such as the top of a table saw, or give it a good whack with a hammer.
CA glue does not handle shock, or temperature changes very well. Therefore, if you can fit your assembly into your freezer, a bit of hand pressure might get it apart, but certainly a light rap on a table will do the trick.
This is why I personally never use it for anything that I intend to stay together permanently.
Or use debonder...
If you do that, you may not want to use the pieces again. If you don't use the accelerator, you may be able to soak the wood to get them apart. I have fixed things with Super Glue, and as soon as what got fixed gets wet, it falls back apart. That usually happens with glass , ceramic or porcelain items.
Awesome tips an tricks with super glue. Thanks for showing me an giving me the knowledge Sir.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Good tips there Colin. I use CA a lot in wood turning, great for filling cracks and small voids and rubbing in sawdust
Great video as always, Bram
Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching, Bram!
Good information and the comments are helpful too.
I have had great luck filling knots with CA glue and coffee grounds. Works well. Great video, thanks!
Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching!
Excellent video! I like the bolt trick, and also adhering hinges in order to drill the holes without movement.
Hope it helps! Thanks for watching!
Having used CA glues in building remote controller airplanes from balsa wood for the past 22 years. In my experience, all CA glues I've used darken over time to a dark brown if not black color. It seems to take 10 years to start, but all CA I've used darkens steadily after that.
You always explain things so clearly
Thank You!
great ideas here. thank you.
Very informative, but the cool part of this video is your WOOD WATCH !
Great tips, Colin. Thanks.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
thank you I learned something new
Great video Colin and a lot of fantastic reviews from your followers that I will try their ideas too. Thanks and stay safe. tim
You're welcome, Tim! Thanks for watching.
Thanks Colin!
Hi Colin, great vid,s love them ! You really have a Dutch familyname it means ,,Helper or employee,, it,s not so much used nowadays till the 1950,s or so ! Greetings Piet Puck from Holland !!
I use a lot of CA in woodturning and one of the maxims it "Never glue yourself to anything you can't lift...
Har.!
LOL
😆
I also use ca as a fast drying sealer/finish. I have used it to impregnate layers of leather, it turns them into a hard wood like substance that can be carved, great for arrow rests and handles. I use it in the kitchen sometimes too, great for little nicks and cuts, also helps with hang nails.
It's funny you say that it takes thirty seconds but really it's five seconds thumbs up my friend
A decent 'quickie' filler is baking soda & CA... it cures up harder than Chinese algebra. Have heard the method is use to fill composite propeller blade dings. Cool videos, Thanks!
Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching!
Great tips. I really enjoy your videos. You have an excellent style of teaching.
Thank You!
Good tips as always Colin!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!
have a blessed day thanks for sharing the video
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Very helpful video for me. Thank you so much. Love your watch by the way. Beautiful
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Very helpful. Thanks.
Thank you. Great ideas and demos. Good starting point for CA glue use. One of the comments below suggested using finger nail polish remover for clearing stuck fingers. The polish remover is diluted acetone. My experience in fiberglass work is that acetone is superior to finger nail polish remover although ventilation is key. A long time ago, decades, I used finger nail polish to correct a problem with CA glue, not on wood, and was less than enthused with results. Acetone is my go to for many situations in which, now this is the chemist speaking, in which the molecules are non polar. Thank you again.

ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO!...ITS NECESARY TO KNOW THIS THINGS. THANKS FOR SHARING..
When he said “stick around” 🤣
Very Good Tip's here. I've never used these "Super Glues" on wood before. I've always used Old Faithful "Mr. Elmer" since I was in high school wood shop. I just never gave it a thought to use this stuff. And, I Never knew they had this Accelerator stuff either....Now,,, off to the lumber yard AGAIN❕ Thanks for this info Sir.
Hope it helps! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for that. I found it very helpful. Happy Turkey day!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you sir!
Some good ideas here
I've never seen the expression "stick around" being so well used hahahah
That was very helpful thanks!!
You're Welcome!
Great SG ideas. Thank you
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
I've never had much luck using the super glues. I need to get some of that spritzer product you used. That may help!!! Thanks for posting.

"It takes about 30 seconds" (5 seconds later) "That should be it" ;) nice video, and good tips on different uses for glue. :)
The time machine factor is the Super of the glue.
Great tips, thanks!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Interesting as always. And you are funny as always. Good video.
thank you
Nice presentation, you've restored my faith in CA glues. wasn't having much luck but was not using accelerators of any kind so now I will thanks again for your videos always enjoy the tips and knowledge you put forth.
Hope it helps! Thanks for watching!
Thank you
I’ll try that
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Nice video Colin and informative as usual. I've used CA adhesives and accelerator mainly for tacking, particularly handy when positioning 1/8" or 1/4" panels and then adhere the rest of the seam with a traditional wood glue. I wonder if CA is a permanent bond alone for wood or whether the seam will break down over time? Although the accelerator seems to dry and disappear from the wood surface in 5 or 10 minutes, I wonder if it effects the woods ability to accept a stain or finish? CA adhesives certainly do glue skin as mentioned -- CA adhesive was developed in the labs of Eastman Kodak about 60 years ago, sold under the trade name of "EASTMAN 910 ADHESIVE" and sold commercially only at that time to the funeral industry -- You guessed it! ...a great little product for sealing orifices from leakage after embalming. It was many years later before the product became available to the consumer as "Crazy Glue" after the Eastman patent expired.
This bring to my mind a laugh about some guys in NYC that used to glue people against glass windows and give them a hold up and left them there glued down till they got away, cops came and unglued them LOL.
I just love your channel Colin! I'm a newbie but I've been following you since I started learning. I always appreciate all your tips and tricks. Thank you for the effort you put in! Cheri 💕
You're welcome, Cheri! Thanks for watching.
Cool watch
That's Krazy!
Nice Video
I like Your videos Sir
Thanks a lot Colin. Nice informations... Have a Nice day
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Nice watch
Nice! I never had much luck with those glues. The accelerator looks like quite the thing!
Thanks for watching!
There are a number of 2-part superglues around such as mitrebond, Soudal, etc. They come with an aerosol of activator. Amazing stuff. UV resin can be good for somethings too.
Great tips.
Thank You!
I like all his videos
Thank You, Gary!
During winter my fingers gets so dry and it cracked so bad so I had to use CA glue just to get it glued back . It works for me but the only thing it gets hard but I got no sore fingers anymore.
Just great. 🇸🇪
One thing to never do is apply CA to a part that's been blasted with accelerator by dragging the CA's spout on the surface. The accelerant will kick (catalyze) the CA in the bottle and it will be wasted.
Really enjoy your tutorials ..very informative..Thanks. I must say, you make the art of gluing seem easy, I always end up gluing my fingers and anything else that is not to be glued.
Hi Colin...been watching your videos and enjoy them and I’ve used some of your tips. I just noticed your wooden watch....very nice, I just happen to have one to. It gets a lot of comments 😁 they’re unique....
They sure are. I'm really liking mine!
Nice tip
Thank You!
Nice watch!!!
Thank You!
Good rule of thumb when working with CA is to keep acetone within an arm's length. Gluing self to metal surfaces can be embarrassing otherwise.
Also, two other knot fillers are worth mentioning. For dark patching, consider yesterday's well dried coffee grounds. For lighter patching, grab a piece of nice, light maple and sand enough to fill the hole. I keep some in a pill bottle. Same could work with walnut dust. Good video.
Works really well for sticking your fingers together..😁
It sure does! Thanks for watching.
i got that it in my eyes when i was 4 and it sure sticked good
There are different viscosities so will have some different properties depending on the porosity of the wood.
As activator you can use rubbing alcohol. I would check strength before using - i found information that only titebond ca glue offers over 4000psi shear strenght in gluing wood (titebond 3 offers 4000psi, titebond 1 ca. 3600). Also thin ca glue is not recommended because it soaks into wood fibers and connection is weak. Better is medium or thick. Thanks for your observations sharing!
Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching!
Thin CA is often used by wood turners because of those properties to stabilize cracks and also as a finish
Hello Colin, wondering what you think about Dap Weldwood Urea Formaldehyde Resin glue. Thanks so much for your excellent videos! 😊
For the knot holes, you can use cinnamon and super glue. It works like baking soda but the color blends perfectly with the knots. But be careful if the hole it's too big because the CA reacts with the cellulose and generates a lot of heat
Thanks
You're Welcome!
Off to WalMart to git me some Krazy Glue!
I know this is an old video but I just watched it, thanks for all your tips. Question: Once you mix the powder and the glue can you still use the accelerator to harden it?
Good video, Karl. I have hear that ammonia also works as an activator.
Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching!
CA works really well for sealing deep cuts together to, Stings a bit though, but it works
Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching!
Doctors us it in heart and artery surgery.
@@RPSchonherr , I believe the CA glue used for medical purposes is formulated differently. Regular CA glue, and especially the water thin formulations, get really really hot when they hit skin or other organic materials, and could probly burn skin or cause tissue damage.
Wozza, it generates significant heat however, could cause skin or tissue damage.
@@goodun2974 yes medical glue is a different formula but the base is still cyanurate.
I use it with my table saw to joint pieces...i just apply painters tape to piece and flat edge in my case a long level. Then apply glue to tape and temporarily glue those pieces together to go thru table saw. At the end just pull them apart they will rip right along the tape.
Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching!
Hot melt is less messy, less wasteful (try using a tube of super glue a month later) for temporary tacking. Combine it with 100% silicon for permanent bond.
Thanks for this! I've seen SO many videos where people talk about CA glue. I've always thought it was a brand but haven't bought any yet. Then while at Woodcraft over the weekend I realized it's more of a "type" than a brand. Even Tightbond has a CA glue. Glad to see this video to educate myself more.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
LOL!!!! "Temporarily" sticking things together. :)
I love your watch. Did you make it?
I used CA Glue with accelerant yesterday for the first time to glue a piano hinge on to plywood. It stuck quickly as designed with a strong bond. I went into garage to check on it today and it had completely come lose. Any idea what might have happened?
