Some of his imaginative landscape paintings remind me of the beautiful matte paintings on display at Industrial Light and Magic in San Francisco (before Disney took over). I appreciate his sense of exploration and curiosity.

Love this podcast! If an artist is truly creative, how can you expect the same thing out of them on a regular basis? Creation is different every time because it is different circumstances like mood, interest, and the passage of time. I would like to hear about the subject of galleries expecting the same to make the sale easy and prepackaged. I would like artists to take back the reigns and tap into true creativity again. This should reflect in the gallery and is representational of real life. I hear from the average viewer of art now that I do many different styles and they are surprised to see it. I believe it is the gallery that is conditioning the viewer. I feel it is important that I continue to do many forms to keep growing as an artist and help me see clearly on my path. Thank you both for talking about this subject! Types I do are plein air, Sumi-e, Zen, still life, figure, Chinese painting, silversmith, and now some digital art.

Hold on, but what's so great about realism? It's nice that ppl can show off skills, but there's no freedom in that. Maybe that's why Michelangelo wasn't satisfied even at his skill level - because realism restricts soul, the play that we have when we are children. I believe that realism appeared so we could document surroundings, but it's not necessary anymore since the development of photography. Now we can roam free. I've always felt that "being right" kills creativity. And it becomes a machine were creativity has no place.

I obviously strongly disagree. You are listening to the right podcast. Perhaps more exposure to great realists would open up your mind a bit. Realism is so much more than documenting nature.
