    Hi,
Just to let you know, according to Classic Ford magazine, significant changes would mean an engine that was not available on the range when the model of car was new. So your ST170 would be classed as a significant change.

    • @performanceclassics1986

I’m no expert, hence me asking the question but all the mods the car has are very light. All bolt on Mainly Ford items and many of which were upgrades back in the 70’s and 80’s but I think for peace of mind, I’m going to continue to have an MOT done 👍

What a truly beautiful car. My parents owned a Ford Escort Mark 1 'Mexico' from 1973 to 1984 and I loved the bones of that car but it had to be sold for not much money sadly as at the time it needed too much doing to get it through it's M.O.T but growing up I had some adventures in it including going to Cornwall and the radiator caught fire and pre-kids Mum and Dad drove it all the way to Spain on holiday. The colour of your escort is so vibrant the one my parents had was copper with four big spot lamps on the front which are a no-no according to the Harris Family who build engines for fast Ford's.

I have been following your build, enjoyed the progress and have weathered the ups and downs from a distance of 1000km ;-)
Several things to remember I think...
Firstly you have low profile tyres and quite a hard, fairly front high ride height front suspension setting. This seems to be excessive for road use if the springs and or ARB are too stiff ? I know little about Escorts so it would be useful to ask about.
Secondly, as mentioned below by several people, it makes sense to keep an eye on stoichiometrics with an AFR gauge.
Lastly, MoTs are a very good idea for many reasons. One is to make sure that you car is safe (an independent viewpoint is always useful), secondly to have paperwork for your insurer (we all know why....) and lastly, should you take your car to Europe, you will need it...

    • @performanceclassics1986

Thanks Andrew. I think possibly the front springs are too stiff and that won’t help. I totally agree regarding the MOT and I don’t really agree with the whole mot exemption rule. I think all cars should have an mot regardless of age. It’s good peace of mind really.

That engine sound took me right back to my Astra 2 16V GpN rally car mid 90s.

The 1994 Fiesta Calypso is not finally on the road, and it handles almost like it just came from factory, which means that I can start working on my 1993 now.

I was on an Oldtimer/Youngtimer car meet on Friday, and on the way back home I got stuck in 4th gear.
It was quite a hassle to get back home as soon as I got of the Autobahn, since I had to bee lucky with traffic lights, and had to try and avoid them.
There was one light, that I wasn't that lucky with, but my clutch should survive a single 4th gear launch...
