Those were some awesome shots Red. The Kate Shelley story is something everyone should know about, the girl was a hero, so cool they honored her by naming a bridge after her. 70mph with double mains, 2 trains at once would be something to see! Great video dude, have a great day my friend 👍🏻😁🇺🇲
Hey red that’s a great UP double stack and a UP mixed freight in Missouri valley Iowa I’m not sure what happened of the double stack train on Boone Iowa the Kate Shelly bridge red 👍🤔😄
I enjoyed watching this video, Red! The drone footage of the Union Pacific double stack train coming off the Omaha Subdivision onto the Boone Subdivision in Missouri Valley, Iowa gave us a wonderful view of that junction point. The drone footage of the two Kate Shelley bridges west of Boone, Iowa over the Des Moines Eiver gave us an extraordinary view of both bridges. The two trains crossing the newer Kate Shelley bridge were impressive. Thank you for stopping to captures the Kate Shelley bridges!
You're welcome Thomas! Glad you liked it. Missouri Valley is confusing to figure out on the ground. The drone explains a lot on how the subs connect. The Kate Shelley bridge has been one of my favorite drone spots👍
Many fond memories of the Kate Shelly high bridge both the old and new. My late mom and I would go train watching there. I remember when the new bridge was being built. Thanks Red for the memories!
Yep lots of yellow and green but no digital camera or "Drone Time!" Where you parked while filming the High Bridge was the same as where my mom and I would stop to watch the trains. Thanks again my friend.@@redsiowatrainvideos6645
Hi red it is nice to see the Long trains again with a couple of engines and I hope they keep the old bridge up alongside the new one and seeing the forest in the background thanks red and the dogs
I highrailed across the old bridge in the early 1980's. I worked for Electro Pneumatic Corp. at the time. Replcaced pole lines with coded track circuits for wayside signalling. Enjoyed the video. Thanks, Dean
I spent some time in Missouri Valley before the CNW. Merger. There were still cuts of cars for Block swapping at that time and I must say the Drone picture put the layout back in perspective. Truly a megatrain there and again out of the Kate Shelley Bridge both had lots of containers. It looks strange to still see the rails on the old bridge yet pulled out on the approaches. You need to replace a lot of ties and do some serious checks on the steel. Those supports on the new bridge look a bit like a large parking structure it was funny that the covered Hopper next to the BN car is.a Real Deal CNW car! I forget the name of the video but some people hoboing shot footage at Missouri Valley recently as I noticed the dumpsters and storage containers plus the string of TYOX gondolas for old ties. Thanks for keeping us up-to-date
You're welcome Paul! My grandparents lived in Missouri Valley. I remember staying there in the 80s during the summer and listening to the railroad. I remember hearing the cars slam together as the CNW worked the yard. Definitely a lot has changed there since. Great place for train action, too bad it's 250 miles from my home in Cedar Falls.
Nice coverage on the 2 Kate Shelley's, Red! Good idea to enclose I beams in concrete. I'm sure there's steel inside and it won't rust like the old ones did. Imagine filming that new bridge from start to finish. A lot of video 🤓🥸😎
Thank you for posting this and for being so enthusiastic! Great video and coverage. Unbelievable how humans can create structures like this that tale beatings all day long. Great catch.
Great drone video!! Can you get still pictures from your video? The pictures of the Kate Shelly bridge and the new bridge are awesome.. Keep making videos!!
Great drone shots of the bridges! I always wondered when the new one was built. Pretty uncommon to see a Z-train sitting there too. I'm thinking of going again there soon
those high bridges are just a few miles north of our home on the dm river. we can see the high trestle bridge from our house @ night when they turn the blue lights on
Several years ago the UP had a number of locomotives stored in the Mo Valley yard. If I remember right they were there for over a year or more. Neat to see the yard and Y from the air. I’ve been through there on US 30 many times but just had to guess on how things were laid out and how trains moved through town. Couldn’t see the locomotive numbers but I’d almost swear the train at the beginning of the video in Mo Valley was the same one stopped on the Kate Shelly bridge.
Yes Sandy the drone really helps explain how all the subdivisions connect in MO Valley. That may have been the same train. We stopped for lunch which would have given it time to get caught up to us by the Kate Shelley bridge👍
Good Morning Red. That's a cool drone shot of that stack train going around the curve. "Drone time!" - never gets old buddy so keep the cameos coming! Man oh Man that stack train was massive! Great shots to see just how long that train was, great camera work! That's a fair size yard that's there...yup and that stack train keeps going and going and going...oh now I see the end. Any idea how many axles that first stack train was? I mean, we have big train tressels where I live but no where near as long as that bridge. I would have loved to see that bridge being built, I'd say there would have been some massive cranes working on it! What a production that would have been 110 years ago to build that steel tressle. Again, drone work top notch! So question...how come there was 2 buffer cars after the engines on that mixed freight? Thanks for the video and commentary Red. Cheers! 🇨🇦
Yo Phantom, you're welcome! I'd guess 600 or so axles. Yes to witness the way they assembled that bridge back in the day would have been stellar! Not sure on the two buffer cars. Probly headed for an ethanol train at some point. Have a good one👍😃
Actually this new concrete bridge uses the old steel girders from that Milwaukee road bridge between Madrid and Woodward IA. You're right, very similar span and double track. The Milwaukee bridge was odd being brand new in the 70's for the bankrupt MILW because of the Saylorville dam construction
I know you probably get tired of being asked, but what's the average height your drone flies at? Great scenes, the Iowa countryside never looked so good.
Well, i posted a few videos of two of my many hobbies, maybe they might accidently get a few views, but more than likely not. I dont know why i post them and just get ignored 🤔😔😤😲😱❗
@redsiowatrainvideos6645 yes. There used to be an old metal bridge with wood plank floor we could cross the river and go into boone. It got wiped out by a flood several years ago. Not sure how to share a photo with you.
@redsiowatrainvideos6645 there is another similar bridge down stream between Madrid and Woodward. They turned it into a bike path. Very impressive if you ever get down there. It's pretty cool looking and lights up at night.

Thanks STRETCH LIMO! Yes Kate Shelley was no chicken😀 Thankfully the old bridge is on the historical list and won't be removed. Have a good one👍

@@Diegoiowatrains Yo Diego! That bridge is impressive for sure. I think there was a door open on one of the containers.
Nice drone work. Thanks for the video.
You're welcome JOC!
Thanks Red thoses bridges are impressive great spot
You're welcome Ronald!

Good shots all around Red. The plate girder spans on the new Kate Shelly bridge are probably Corten and are weathering nicely.
The plate girders on this new bridge were removed from the 1977 built Milwaukee Road bridge that ran between Madrid and Woodward.
Thanks Fred!
Excellent video Red. What a magnificent double bridge. Very nice👍
Thanks Mike! Yes very impressive👍
Many fond memories of the Kate Shelly high bridge both the old and new. My late mom and I would go train watching there. I remember when the new bridge was being built. Thanks Red for the memories!
You're welcome Michael! Wish I would have been into this hobby In the CNW days. I would have a lot of yellow and green In my videos😃

You're welcome Elaine! The old bridge will stay. It's on the historical list👍
Awesome video today Red, but that bridge just scares the bejeebers out of me! 😮 😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
Thanks Gary! I'll bet some of those crews get nervous over it. Especially if it's windy😆
Nice catches!
Thats what i call a real train video. very good
Thanks John!
Fantastic footage.
Thanks nw-by-n!

You're welcome Dean! That would be quite the view driving over that bridge. My Dad used to highrail over the bridge for CNW and the UP.

Thanks Nancy! Great place to fly that drone👍
@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 you’re welcome Red, and yes definitely.
Great video Red, the drone footage of the bridges was awesome.
Thanks Dan! It's an awesome spot👍
I rode over the new Kate Shelley bridge on a stack train once and my train stopped there too. Maybe it has to do with activities in Boone.
Sounded like a hatch or door was open somewhere on the train. I overheard it on the scanner.
Great vidieo thanks red
You're welcome William!
Amazing. Thank you!
I hope that was a cow bawling and not the bridge creaking! 😮😊😊

Thanks Bekleidung! Its nice to know the old bridge will stand since it's on the historical list😀👍
Your camerawork and editing is as impressive as the length of the trains 👍
Thanks Vincent!
Thank you for posting this and for being so enthusiastic! Great video and coverage. Unbelievable how humans can create structures like this that tale beatings all day long. Great catch.
You're welcome Johnny! Sounds like the old bridge could still carry traffic just not up to UP'S speed standard for two trains at once.
Wonderful video and drone footage. It's a shame they quit using that train bridge, but it was probably time.
Thanks TIK! The bridge can most likely still carry trains. It would be a back up bridge if anything happens to the newer one👍
Great drone video!! Can you get still pictures from your video? The pictures of the Kate Shelly bridge and the new bridge are awesome.. Keep making videos!!
Thanks Jeanne! I should have put some stills at the end. I think you can capture parts of the video for stills if you want👍

Thanks fallingup90! I was surprised to see the train stopped on the bridge. Sounded like a door or hatch was open on the scanner.
those high bridges are just a few miles north of our home on the dm river. we can see the high trestle bridge from our house @ night when they turn the blue lights on
If that iron bridge was 110 years old you wouldn't catch me taking a train that heavy across it! No siree. 😊😊

thanks or the overhead of the kate/shelly bridge,me and my wife stopped to see that accouple weeks ago.ausom drone videos, thanks
You're welcome Stephen!
Good job, Red. And people think Iowa is all flat.
Thanks Randy! Tell the people in RAGBRAI how flat it is😀
Great drone work. I wonder if UP is planning to scrap the old Kate Shelley bridge. The steel must be valuable, but the demolition costs would be high.
Thanks Steve! Nope, the bridge is on the historical list. It would also still be a good back up bridge.
What will happen to the old bridge?
It will stay since it's on the historical list👍
wonderful views of Kate Shelley bridge -do they use the old one for bikes? looks like a path (though narrow) between tracks
Thanks Franz! Nope the old bridge isn't used for anything.
🇺🇸😎👍🇺🇸
Somewhere in Iowa can't recall where shortly before their demise! Milwaukee road, unsure right now. Bridge with a similar span
There's an old CGW bridge in Fort Dodge that's similar to this one. It's a single track. I did a video of it a couple months ago.
I know you probably get tired of being asked, but what's the average height your drone flies at? Great scenes, the Iowa countryside never looked so good.
I usually vary my altitude between 30 and 200 feet. I can legally fly up to 400 feet.
Is this bridge north of Hwy 30? And what about the Booen RR
Yes it is. The Boone Scenic railroad is further North from the Kate Shelley bridge.
Well, i posted a few videos of two of my many hobbies, maybe they might accidently get a few views, but more than likely not. I dont know why i post them and just get ignored 🤔😔😤😲😱❗
You had to see the wooden humpback bridge on your way out from Kate Shelly high bridge. That's where I usually film from
Yes, I did see it David! It's all dead end roads down to the Kate Shelley base now.
@redsiowatrainvideos6645 yes. There used to be an old metal bridge with wood plank floor we could cross the river and go into boone. It got wiped out by a flood several years ago. Not sure how to share a photo with you.
@@davidsnider1703 Too bad that bridge didn't get repaired. You can email a picture to me. dgearhart72@cfu.net
Are 15000 foot trains being run on UP these days?
I'm pretty sure. Some of those double coal trains are very long!
hello ok one question if you see someone raiding in one of the train cars are you going to call the railroad police?
Probably call the number on the crossing sign.
The old high bridge had gotten down to like 15 or so mph so it was really restricting travel
Good for a back up bridge maybe.
@redsiowatrainvideos6645 there is another similar bridge down stream between Madrid and Woodward. They turned it into a bike path. Very impressive if you ever get down there. It's pretty cool looking and lights up at night.
