  • Ricoh have released a new firmware for the GRiii, GRiiix and all of the special editions. The firmware adds an film simulation/image control profile, and a simple way to read the camera’s shutter count.

It’s high time Ricoh made the firmware updatable via the camera app and a mobile phone… happy new year 🎉

Hi, just wondering if you can help me - I have a GRiiix and I’ve set up the U1/U2/U3 settings, which I find very useful, but how do I set up & recall “Box 4, Box 5 & Box 6”??? - really confused by this - thanks in anticipation - Peter.

Hi Peter, you just use 4,5 and 6 the same as you did for 1,2 and 3. You can then assign them to U1, 2 and 3 in the same way. They’re just settings you can save, but also assign to the dial as needed. I guess there just wasn’t room on the dial to hold all 6 ;)

@@photostuff - Many thanks for your quick response. I want to retain what I’ve saved in U1,2 & 3, so assuming I can also save in 4,5 & 6 as well, how do I select 4,5 & 6 when I want to shoot in those?

@@WatchDSSID let’s say you’ve saved settings in box6 and called it “travel”. To use it you would assign it to u1,2 or 3 on the dial, replacing whatever was there before, but not deleting the previous selection. To do this, in the C custom menu, first page, choose recall. Then choose User1,2 or 3 and in the next menu select one of the six box settings to assign. Ok?

@@photostuff - Thanks - I THINK I know what you mean…..I’ll get my camera out and try it…. and report back. :- )

@@photostuff - Sorry, but I’m just not getting it - if I save new settings in Box 6 then assign it to U3, my old U3 settings disappear :- (

With the latest firmware, it shows the total shutter count.

I have had a couple of camera freezes (never happened before), since updating my firmware yesterday to this latest version. Anyone else had freeze issues?

Yikes, what do you do to resolve it… take the battery out?

@@photostuff yes took the battery out. It happened twice today.

@@ZenoWatson then we can probably expect a minor update soon. I’ll be taking mine out for a longer test tomorrow.

@@photostuff Keep me posted on how you get on. I am going to try a different battery, just in case it is that. My SD card is more than fast enough, so I know it cannot be the card.
