HI Jessica...I had NO idea that steaming the pom pom would make such a difference...wow ..just wow!!!!
I often put a flat button underneath the hat ( inside) to tie the pom to and it doesn't flop. This is so you can remove the pom if you wash your hat. This is mostly for a fur pom though...thank you for this tutorial....got to love chicken poo...lol!!!!

I'm glad you found this tutorial useful! Hopefully all your pom pom are fat and glorious from now on. 😄The button idea is excellent! I'll have to try that someday.

Didn't know about steaming the pompom either. What a great tip as well as how to secure it so it's not floppy. Will definitely follow this method on my next one. November was my Christmas Day cast on and I'm really enjoying it. Working on the lower body and sleeves now. Can't wait to be able to wear it!

Hi Jessica. Thanks for a great tutorial. I make my pompoms just like your method but didn't know about the steaming afterwards! Works a treat! Need to try this on my next one! Thanks for the tip. X

The hat is beautiful and I can’t wait to make Pom poms for my hats how. What type of yarn did you use to a fix the Pom Pom to the hat?

I have found after making many of these that either a felt button if it is tight hat or a regular plastic button it loose…. Thread the ends into the hat and then through the holes of the button, pull tight and then tie your bow. The button keeps the Pom tight.
