got an Oiz TR, 780mm 40mm rise bar and short stem, and I'm doing jumps everywhere I can 🤪 this bike is so fun. improving my tables and whips atm for style. weird thing is I tend to land with both wheels or back wheel slightly first, I got a bmx street background so... need to try landing the front wheel first.
My jumping isn't bad - won't qualify for frequent air mile's like you blokes, but I do fairly well. :-) And yes, I'm on an XC bike (though with 10mm less travel). Do note: I don't have XC wheels and tires however (if it wasn't for geometry and short travel suspension, my bike has more parts in common to an AM bike).
Is the frame of XC bikes as strong or will it be prone to breaking doing jumps and drops? That feels like a crucial caveat for why xc bikes are not suitable.
@@wangelite5279 Geometry would be the primary thing. But on big jumps, the short suspension does mean the frame (and rider) would be punished more (far easier to run out of suspension travel). On a specifically race bred XC bike were lightness is paramount, it might be more prone to breakage of all sorts. But on XC styled trail bike, na.
I ride a 100mm travel XC bike which I use for everything. XC, bike parks, down hill even going to the shops. All I changed was I put a short stem and riser bars on it, oh and meatier tyres
I did the same, dropper as well I feel is a hide upgrade. Now I need to learn jumps/drops, I'm still a newbie but hopefully one day I'll get the hang of it.
My 2018 Cannondale Scaple se received a more capable rear shock ,shorter stem and rise bars making it capable for most of what the trail can offer . May list a bit of it's xc capabilities but not allot . I also use maxxis minions 2.3 with exo casing to go with lower pressures . The thing about today's xc bikes is you can make them very trail capable with a few changes it's more difficult to take a Enduro bike and make it more xc compatible
Back in the good ol' days (he says like a proper old man) my first mountain bike was a Hardtail with rigid straight forks, you get a jump wrong on that you knew about it!
video idea: xc fully vs enduro/trail hardtail price may differ, of course the fully wil be more expensive. but the bikes must be the same: same shifters same brakes, same frame material, etc
i ride cube aim sl 2022 xc bike with 100mm fork and default stem and bars and all i do on it is jumping, i never had any problems and i dont see how an enduro bike could be so much better as people say
@@gmbn I find my xc bike is very easy and happy to get off the ground and easier to handle in the air too. Smaller jumps are more fun on it. so its arguably better in ways.
Lower tyre pressures learn the hard way; or more precisely, land the hard way can end in death......... only a few weeks before a Covid delayed overseas vacation, a broken bone would have resulted in death by wife.
How is your jumping? Do you have any tips for someone who is learning or wanting to improve?

i jump all the time on a scott spark, but haven't hit the massive ones yet.
Perfect timing. I videoed myself jumping on my XC (my only) bike morning. I’ve concluded that I need all the tips I can get!
Good to hear it. Hopefully this video helps you, remember practice, practice, practice!
Why did you name your bike morning ?
🙄🙄
@@K.V.P14 obviously I need tips on writing as well lol

That’s exactly what i did

Really enjoy the 'Don's' solo tip videos , love his simple yet thorough explanation, and as always , great technique 👏
Yes, 100mm fork with big dropper and chunky firm tubeless setup, 👌🏼
The Don lays it down- this is what *real* skills look like!😊

I have an XC Bike but I treat it like it's a Hardtail Enduro Bike, love it! 😁❤️
Using XC/DC type 120 travel need this type of content ❤

Any bike can jump ! Just ask Sam Pilgrim!!!
TO THE SKY
Hell yeah!
litreally tha DREAM.
Neal is the Best :)
I've got a 1998 Gary Fisher Joshua full suspension XC bike and it actually jumps alright after raising the cockpit shorter stem wide bars etc
As a beginner, XC bike has very much gone 130/130 "Downcountry" bike, and used as such, I need all the help I can

Please can you make more xc hardtail videos??? Thanks
Great video 😃 Can you also show me how to jump over that very high one 😱😱 it's a little scary
pads.... back in my day we didn't wear pads, or have suspension... or a dropper post. Did we have more scars, heck yeah.

What jacket is that?
I think I just started hating my XC bike based on these allowed jumps.
For old farts like me that is a downhill bike you have.
Exactly
Amen !!
Yes indeed!!
Give it a bit more travel and send it 💪🏾
I jump my down country bike and it’s a 26 er off anything I can get air off of .
You can jump ANYTHING that has wheels , just REMEMBER it doesn't always go to plan 😂
I don't use droppers so whenever I jump, getting my balls smacked by the seat happens sometimes... sometimes. 😂
XC bikes can jump, but the rider should be very precise and smooth. Harsh landings will disassemble the flimsy components at a noticeable rate :)
So i guess if you're not perfect technique, theres no reason to even try jumping on XC bike in races.
Have you seen the XC courses these days... "A" lines have drops like Enduro and Jumps waaaahaaaayeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
Ofcourse you can jump with XC's!

The real question, SHOULD XC bikes jump? Every second in the air is the second you don't pedal
and for each second not pedaling, it’s less speed
No just no
