I've been at fort Hood for a year and some change. Been through a training cycle and a half (military members can elaborate in the replies). I haven't been in very long but I came in when a lot of guys were getting back from syria. They were obviously happy to be back, but I know that the dudes in my platoon would do it over again without a question if they had to. It's a good cause that civilians don't understand and can't understand. The dudes in my platoon and especially my squad have become my brothers. I genuinely feel more love for my friend Tom than I do my own brothers. It's a bond and an experience that you can't get any other way. If you're questioning whether to do it or not, then do it. If you don't make it then at least you tried. As military you're part of 1% of Americans. If you join as combat arms, you've at least got the fucking cajones to offer that possibility of your life for your country. That takes a lot and deserves a lot of respect. Any veterans reading this, just know you're supported and loved by a lot of people.
