- In this video you can enjoy the cab ride - train driver's view on Drava Valley Railway between Lienz - Sillian - Lienz on Drautalbahn in 4K/60 frames per second.
This journey leads us along the Drava Valley Railway. The Drava Valley Railway (German: Drautalbahn) is an east-west railway running along the Drava. It runs from Maribor (where it connects with the Spielfeld-Straß-Trieste railway, formerly part of the old Southern Railway-Südbahn) to Innichen, where it merges into the Puster Valley Railway (German: Pustertalbahn; Italian: Ferrovia della Val Pusteria) to Franzensfeste (Fortezza). It starts in northern Slovenia, crosses Carinthia and East Tyrol and ends in South Tyrol. The Klagenfurt-Bleiburg section has been rebuilt as part of the Koralm Railway, which follows the Jaun Valley Railway (Jauntalbahn) from Bleiburg. Like the rest of the line in Slovenia, this section of the line has one track and is unelectrified.
The line now called the Drava Valley Railway consists of the Carinthian Railway (Maribor-Villach), the original Drava Valley Railway (Villach-Lienz) and the eastern part of the original Puster Valley Railway (which extended from Lienz to Franzensfeste). It received its current name as a result of the division of the Puster Valley Railway into an Austrian and an Italian part after 1918.

The beautiful alpine scenery reminds me of the Remarkables on the South Island of New Zealand. I had the pleasure of a train trip from the west coast , through Arthur’s Pass to Christchurch. that long tunnel was a real test for my claustrophobia. I hope to return to NZ for a train trip on the North Island.

Thank you for this video showing a ride unknown. Nice and intetesting cab ride with some beautiful landscapes seen with or whithout snow. The same train ETR 170 has Been seen between Fortezza and San Cándido in a Italian.cab ride. So the OBB has traffic management Lienz/Fortezza (Line Brennero/Verona.

Einen schönen guten Morgen und ein schönes Wochenende gewünscht aus Brandenburg an der Havel. Ich bin vor gut 20 Jahren mit dem Lkw über diese Strecke von Kaprun, Lienz, Sillian nach Südtirol (Italien)zur Brennerautobahn. Eine sehr schöne Region und jederzeit wieder.

Thank you for sharing. Even on a gloomy cloudy day it is still a beautiful route even if few people know the route. It has become popular with cyclists who do a day trip Lienz-Sillian/Innichen or the other way around. In summer trains have many special wagons for bicycles.

Eine interessante Eisenbahnstrecke, die als Teil der Drautalbahn (ursprünglich "Kärntner Bahn" von Marburg an der Drau bis Innichen) durch den westlichen Teil von Osttirol führt. Zur Zeit des Baus (ab 1856) lag sie noch zur Gänze auf österreichischem Staatsgebiet; wie auch die weiter nach Westen bis Franzensfeste führende anschließende Pustertalbahn, die dort in die 1867 eröffnete Brennerbahn nach Bozen (Richtung Süden) und über den Brenner nach Norden bis Innsbruck führende Brennerbahn mündet. In Innsbruck trifft die Brennerbahn dann an die Inntal-, Arlberg- und Karwendelbahn. Sie war bis 1875, als die Giselabahn von Salzburg und Selzthal nach Wörgl führende Giselabahn eröffnet wurde, die einzige Eisenbahnverbindung innerhalb Österreichs in die westlichen Gebiete der k.u.k.-österreichisch-ungarischen Monarchie. Ich freue mich schon auf die Reise von Lienz in die andere Richtung nach Spittal-Millstättersee (auch Spittal an der Drau genannt), wo dann der Anschluß an die Tauernbahn erfolgt. Alle die genannten Eisenbahnstrecken (Giselabahn, Tauernbahn, Brennerbahn, Arlbergbahn und auch die Nordtiroler Ober- und Unterinntalbahn sowie die Stubaitalbahn und die Mittelgebirgsbahn) sind auf diesem Kanal von RailRelaxation bereits verfügbar. - An interesting railway line that runs as part of the Drautalbahn (originally the "Kärntner Bahn" from Marburg an der Drau to Innichen) through the western part of East Tyrol. At the time of construction (from 1856) it was still entirely within Austrian territory; as was the subsequent Pustertalbahn leads further west to Franzensfeste, where it flows into the Brennerbahn to Bozen-Bolzano (towards the south), which opened in 1867, and then over the Brenner to the north to Innsbruck. In Innsbruck the Brennerbahn then meets the Inntal-, Arlberg- and Karwendelbahn. It was the only railway connection within Austria to the western areas of the Imperial and Royal (k.u.k.) Austro-Hungarian Empire until 1875, when the Giselabahn from Salzburg and Selzthal to Wörgl was opened. I'm already looking forward to the journey from Lienz in the other direction to Spittal-Millstättersee (also called Spittal an der Drau), where the connection to the Tauernbahn takes place. All of the railway routes mentioned (Giselabahn, Tauernbahn, Brennerbahn, Arlbergbahn and also the North Tyrolean Upper and Lower Inntalbahn as well as the Stubaitalbahn and the Mittelgebirgsbahn) are already available on this RailRelaxation channel.

What did surprise me is that Drau/Drava/Drave begins in Italy, I didn't think it goes so deep into Alps, and that there is a river in Italy that is part of Danube river basin.
@ZvonimirZelenika Yes, this is amazing. I did not know that either. It runs from the Puster valley and passes various countries until it reaches the Danube river.

@@RailRelaxationAlas, the Dolomitenbahn (Toblach - Cortina - Calazo) was closed 60 years ago, in 1962/64. That would certainly be an excellent video for this channel 🙄. At least the bus from Toblach takes almost the same route. I fondly remember my travels to Dreizinnen and Cortina...

@@fredpalmer260 nochmal die Züge im Video haben absolut nix mit der Trenitalia zu tun. Die sind von der Provinz Bozen gekauft worden und werden von der SAD betrieben. Zwischen Innichen und Lienz fährt damit ÖBB Personal, in Italien Personal der SAD.
Thank you for your comments, with those comments we all can learn new things and discuss. As far as I know, those trains are operated by both companies, SAD and ÖBB. It is a cooperation between them. But I am not an expert on that matter so if anyone knows better, please correct me. In that way, we can all grow. Thank you all.
