The vampire diaries has a lot of problems, especially as the show progresses further and further, but I really do think these two not becoming end game was one of the biggest mistakes they could have made.
Damon x Elena was forced, toxic as hell, and overall just not enjoyable after like s3 or 4.
Damon and Bonnie had a genuinely fun relationship. Unlike Elena Bonnie doesn’t have to try to trip over herself to “change” him. She just gives him back as much sass and he gives her until they actually become friends and it’s awesome, and a lot better than the toxic old “I can save him” trope that Elena and Damon REPEATEDLY went through.
Damon x Bonnie was so superior in so many ways
I understand why everyone is #Bamon, but with the way the writers wrote the story for the show it wouldn’t work.
2 scenarios why:

If Damon and Bonnie were romantically in love with each other they would never say anything. Damon loves Elena. Bonnie loves Elena. Bonnie is loyal, she would never betray Elena’s trust, even if they somehow did a mind-dream thing and communicated with her to ask for her blessing. Bonnie would feel guilty about it.

Damon is waiting to see Elena in 80 years. If somehow they both ended up in love and decided to be together. Elena would probably wake up without Damon by her side, because let’s be real, he’d probably want to be human with Bonnie. Bonnie is the better choice, their relationship is not toxic and I’m sure Damon would realise that. And even if he did decide to remain a vampire and live out a short life with Bonnie, would he truly still be in love with Elena after Bonnie dies and Elena wakes up?
Now, the writers did not write the story to make #Bamon romantically involved. Yes, it’s true that Damon is in love with Bonnie, since Ian (the actor who played Damon) revealed that Damon loves Bonnie more than anyone. So, it’s safe to say that he probably is in love with her, but has never acted on those feelings.
If Julie Plec wasn’t racist towards the actress who played Bonnie (Kat Graham), maybe they would of made space for that relationship. And it only would work if they made Elena end up with Stefan, not Damon.
So, as much as we would of liked to see romance between the two, there are many factors as to why it wouldn’t work. The book and the show are two different things. They are basically two different stories, but I understand the #bamon fans.
These shows made all the platonic friends way more interesting imo. Bonnie/ Damon and Klaus/ Hayley have some amazing chemistry.

Out of all the clearly great potential romances that the writers of this show burned to the ground before they ever happened, this one made me feel the most robbed. I thought Damon would fall for Bonnie while Elena was sealed and be with her until she passed away fromo old age. In his mourning, he is reunited with a reawoken Elena.

Especially the Servants of Nature! And my all time fave, We Could’ve Had it All Bamon AU series! 😭❤️These newer fans don’t know what we had to deal with! Lol. But I always find myself coming back to watch bamon videos. I miss them so much.

I came back to TVD while in school of 2017 sophomore year. I usually watched it every day after school and it often rained while I watched the show. So now when it rains all it reminds of is TVD. Very bitter feeling.
Nooo you forget the most wholesome scene where when elena and damon used liv to go to the prison world to rescue bonnie, at one scene someone called the phone and damon answered saying that if kai touched her annoying head of hers, he would kill him. And bonnie reponded with "aww i knew you cared about me (or smth) but you had to ruin it with annoying"

I get the thrill with Delena and the genuine, sweet side of Steroline but common. Stelena was epic and kept us on our toes! Klaroline is the most heart pounding and the most perfect couple, and Bamon? they made sense. Enemies to lovers?? They could've carried the whole show without Elena in the picture (them together).
Plus, i don't condone the Elena hate, watch the early seasons and you'll see how much she's done just to get everyone to get along. Her patience. her protectiveness over her friends, her wanting life to be normal, her compassion and her ability to forgive Damon's early stages of stupidity during the 1st and 2nd season. Give her some slack.

Platonic friendships between a straight man and straight woman can be just as loving, cherished and close.
Bonnie and Damon were an amazing depiction of that.
But they ended up together in the books and considering the history behind the scenes as it pertains to Kat/Bonnie, it all makes sense why they didn't end up together.
