Came across a Neo Geo MVS last year on FB marketplace for $800. Came with 4 games but it would only work on one slot and the monitor was weak. Bought it anyways, cleaned everything and it works like a charm. Had the monitor rebuilt and happy times. Added uni-bios 4.0 and the 181 in 1 v3 cartridge and even HAPPIER TIMES. I love that machine although it doesn't get as much play as it deserves.

Between my AES and my MVS cabinet, I own most of the Neo Geo library. I'd dare say that most Neo Geo games are still fun. Super Baseball 2020 is my favorite sports game on the console, but Windjammers and Street Hoops are awesome as well. I still love the three Sengoku beat 'em ups a lot, and the Shock Troopers games are great, though I'm a weirdo that prefers 2nd Squad. I do like Metal Slug, but I actually like Top Hunter and Spin Master both a little better, and Cyber Lip is pretty fun with its Terminator knock-off theme. Magician Lord is always awesome, and I'd rather play 'Nam 1975 than Wild Guns. Twinkle Star Sprites is a must, though, and Pulstar, Blazing Star, and Prehistoric Isle 2 are a great time.

I got into NeoGeo collecting maybe 6-7 years ago.
As a kid, nobody had one, but we would marvel at the boxes of the consoles and Encyclopedia Britanica sized cart boxes.
Nobody actually owned one that we knew, but we would play these games at the arcade 3 stores over and just dream of owning a console that played actual arcade games and how cool that would be. We would rent the SNES and Genesis ports of Neo Geo games and it would be the closest we get to having it at home.
I was maybe 13 when this all happened… but I always wanted to own one. By 1995… 5 years later, everyone had PS1’s that had perfect ports to the best Neo Geo games and I kinda lost the fire to own one.
Maybe 20 years later I really got into collecting retro video games and I looked into what it would cost to get one and it was about (at the time) the cost of a new Nintendo Switch… so I got one.
I started getting the most affordable AES games and eventually found JPN versions worked and cost a lot less.
Eventually I looked into getting a CBOX and ended up getting lucky on an auction for a JammaNation X that came with a NeoSD rom cart.
I still picked up MVS games because they were cheep and the titles were of the variety that the AES equivalents were Unobtaninium.
Right now I have about 80 different NeoGeo games between AES and MVS but if slowed down on them quite a bit.
I hope one day to get a BigRed cabinet.

Analogue Interactive made Wooden Consolized 1-slot units for a number of years (around 2013-2015 or something like that). I saved up for a few months to get one, and managed to order one close to when they stopped making them. Back then, MVS carts could be found for decent prices if you were patient and there were about 6-7 games I had in mind. So, I just took my time and hunted down each of them. I grabbed a 161-in-1 cart to cover the rest as I felt having the individual carts of my personal "must have" games to be sufficient.

I personally couldn't afford one when they were current-gen and nowadays choose not to buy one because of worries about their age affecting what works and what doesn't. The fact you never saw one is probably because they cost $650 at launch... in 1990 money. Thats $1500 adjusted for inflation! We all experienced the games in arcade cabinets, no-one could afford the home console version. 😅 (and no stores stocked it, it was basically mail order only) Because so few were sold, they are still ridiculously expensive to this day - most people (including Retro Bird in this video) convert the old arcade boards to play on TVs and collect the arcade cartridges instead of the home versions as they are far more common and affordable.

Love the video, NeoGeo was way ahead of it’s time graphically and price-wise. While I enjoy Baseball Stars, for this list I would switch it out with Neo Turf Masters. Easily my favorite golf game of all time!

I remember back in the days when I read about video game news in different magazines about video games that Neo Geo is coming and also that it was superior by hardware/performance but also MUCH more expensive than Nintendo and Sega. I never saw Neo Geo IRL in stores and at friends. Only seen and read about it in magazines. Now with youtube I've seen some gameplay and compared to SNES/Genesis it's so nice to watch! But it's as always ONE THING how impressive the graphic is and ANOTHER THING how the games actually are. Rather better games with worse graphics than worse games with better graphics. It's also about money. Back then as a kid you were lucky just to have SNES - or - Genesis and get the few games that you wanted so crazy much. Now as a non-kid when you got your own economy you can have multiple consoles. Older people in the 90s could buy both Neo Geo and SNES/Genesis - lucky guys

I've played all but Neo Drift Out. I love them all! Metal Slug and Bust-A-Move are also personal favorites on the Neo Geo.
There are so many Neo Geo games I still love!
*Blazing Star* is probably my favorite shmup on the Neo Geo. It looks fantastic and is incredibly intense (even if some of the voice clips can get annoying after awhile).
*Magical Drop II (&III)* are probably my favorite puzzlers outside of Bust-A-Move on the Neo Geo. They are both colorful, fun, and can get really intense!
*League Bowling* is a fun, simple bowling game that anyone can pick up and enjoy (like Baseball Stars)!
Lastly, if you're a huge Bomberman fan like myself you can't go wrong with *Neo Bomberman* !

I was just playing Shock Troopers 2 on my Neo Geo mini (with the 8bitdo clicky controller) - definitely a fun game - with some challenge, and great graphics of course.
Sadly I’ve never had original hardware - probably never will - but there are some options to play some of these games on the Switch (and the mini systems aren’t a terrible option, even with the flaws). The Neo Geo sits in such a weird niche, I’m almost always amazed that it exists - and I wish it had a much larger availability and footprint!

I play the Neo Geo CD game collection on a Nintendo Wii. I use a GameCube controller for it. This is a great Video, as I’m trying to find some fun ones that aren’t fighters. Are the CD games and game library much different from the AES games? I didn’t get to play any of these when I was young so I don’t know.

I bought an aes from a garage sale for $50 several years ago, so I used that as justification to pony up the dough for a neo SD pro
