Banana Hobby V22 Osprey - Post-crash testing, flight controller issue

  • I had several successful flights with the plane this week. It is a blast to fly and the transitions have been very stable. Unfortunately during my second flight Saturday, the transition to forward flight resulted in a hard left roll that sent it nose straight into the ground. Surprisingly the damage was minimal considering the velocity of the craft as it impacted. I was planning on ordering a new body, nacelle rods, and a few other parts, but wanted to test the function of the flight systems to be sure all was well. Each test has shown the exact same outcome as is in this video. During a transition to forward flight, the nacelles pitch to an offset position for several seconds before popping back to the correct alignment. I'm not sure what caused this to start happening. I'm assuming something in the flight controller has shorted. I'm going to keep testing to see what I can figure out.

Check the screws & allen heads for tightness on the coupling between the nacelle rod and the servo. When the screws come loose, you are toast if you are flying.

Are you still flying this plane? Has it crashed again? Mine crashed on the second flight because either the Flight Controller malfunctioned or one of the nacelle servos stalled and flipped the plane over and made it drop like a rock. This plane will crash if you don't put much stronger rotation servos in it. The stock rotation servos will stall because they don't have enough torque.

@John Gabriel I would stay as far away from this plane as possible. It has to be the worse plane I have ever owned. The plane has so many manufacturing defects and design flaws that it is a very unsafe and an accident waiting to happen. Don't expect Banana Hobby to stand behind this plane with any kind of support, as a matter of fact they will lie and tell you there is nothing wrong with the plane. I will not ever buy anything from them again.

Did you do the transition cycle about 12 times before intializing?

That was before they started suggesting that; and I worked with their team on diagnosing what had happened. They ended up having me ship back my electronics so they could determine the cause, and after that released the updated video suggested the 12 cycles before each flight. My 2nd Osprey has not had any issues, so I think this was truly a defect in the original flight controller.

@John Gabriel I am afraid I found the model frustrating so I bought the Elite this worked straight out of the box but I have so many irons in the fire I am always building or messing with something but like I said the the C22 worked fine when I received this there are many videos of this model on the tube. I have stopped buying from the states as import tax as got very expensive now.
