If the script is good, the directing is good, the acting is good, we know what we are supposed to feel. So often background music exists to tell us how to feel - excited, sad, happy, scared etc. This movie was so beautifully constructed that the viewers knew exactly what Celine wanted to say. And she said it all so magnificently.
The point about music was so interesting! I didn't notice there wasn't a score until now. But I did notice myself listening to their breathing a lot. Maybe the filmmaker relied on breathing pitches to indicate emotion in place of music? Also thinking about how the lack of music made the scene with the piano playing (mirrored at the opera) that much more impactful at the end. Maybe a cheesy metaphor about the early memories deepening over time ? Idk?
Really good interview! Interesting, specific questions which got some new insights from Céline. There's typically a lot of the same kinda stuff in these press interviews, but this was quite a refreshing one. Wish it was longer though!
This woman. This woman created a masterpiece, a true work of art.
One of many amazing womans who worked on this film 😂
Oui, elle a fait une oeuvre d'art
literal, una obra de arte. The way that she captured the idea, the gaze beyond the words, the fire, it was an unbelievable experience.
"There's no music because I strongly believe in music."
She created an immortal piece of art.
So she wrote the script having Adele in mind . . . MY HEARTTTT
What an unbelievable movie - beautifully made . . . . very soon you feel you "know" the characters . . . . . thank you so much

I feel deeply inspired by the work of Celine.
"It's like love. You have to show it and you have to hold it" 😭 Ain't that the truth
Genius director, Celine Sciamma you are in a class all your own 💖🏆💖
"Everyone is, basically -- fainting" Sure thing! :D Thank you Lady Celine :)

The absence of music enhanced the brilliance of this film. The pacing which was conducted via footsteps and breathing and swallowing - just brilliant!
I always believed that movies didn’t have the ability to actually change the world. Until I saw this film.
Music in cinema is really powerful 👏 Yes Queen
Celine Sciamma is a Genius of art ! Masterpiece! I love this movie ! Portrait of a lady on fire 🔥 thank you
