They were a great team. Their songs were beautiful and soulful. They wrote good songs for others but their songs took on a much deeper meaning when they performed them themselves. You could hear the love in their voices. Amber and Jay should listen to "Is It Still Good To You," next. Then they will hear what we are trying to get them to understand.❤❤❤

J/A, they wrote: "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "You're All I Need to Get By," "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" by Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell; "Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand)" by Diana Ross and Chaka Khan's "I'm Every Woman" !!! and many more.
Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson, songwriters supreme.. Aint no mountain high enough, too many Motown classics to name.. decided to perform their own material and had a spectacular career as performers.
The Supremes did not sing Ain't No Mountain High Enough that is Diana Ross's second solo single they are so wrote and produced Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell version of Ain't No Mountain High Enough
My absolute top favorite song by Peaches & Herb. Such a beautiful song. "Reunited"came out just as I had reunited with a guy I was soooo crazy about...I broke the relationship off telling myself I would be fine without him ...but every day was torture without him....two months later I broke down and called him crying and apologizing and he was so glad and we reunited and we happy once again. This song came out the very same week and to this day many, many decades later this reminds me of our time together. Growing old together wasn't meant to be but it was great in the time we had together and we made some fabulous and wonderful memories.😊
This duet were the biggest songwriter s for Motown's artists and soul groups like The Temptations....The Four Tops....The Supremes....Dianna Ross....a long string of number ones. They were so huge, Ashford & Simpson had their own variety TV Show. R.I.P. Ashford.
So finally you check out the legends Ashford & Simpson, legendary husband and wife duo, and legendary songwrighters , they wrote some of the most legendary hits in music history ….
A real love story, married in 1974, together for 37 years until Nick Ashford's death in 2011. These 2 were successful performers but were undoubtably more successful behind the scenes as song writers and producers. This duo was one of the powerhouse production teams at Motown during Motown's glory days where they were responsible for numerous hits over the years.
Ashford and Simpson were a married power house songwriting duo for many other artist/hits. Every now and then they would do their own songs/hits. They wrote the Marvin Gaye/Tammy Terrell hit "Aint no mountain high enough".
The story of this couple reads almost like a fairy tale. You are looking at LEGENDS here. From writing hits for Ray Charles to writing and producing 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' for Motown, plus hundreds of other hits for themselves and other singers, they ascended from struggling artists to musical icons - LITERALLY. Got to see them perform in 1977 (or 78) at Crampton Hall on Howard University's campus when I was a student there. They were really young then and they turned it out. Rest In Peace Nick Ashford. And carry on Valerie Simpson. You guys set the night on fiyah back in the day. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥♥️
Nick Ashmore and Valerie Simpson. They spent much more time writing for the Motown greats: “Ain’t Nothin’ Like the Real Thing” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell along with “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Martin & Tammi, then also Diana Ross. They also wrote “Reach Out and Touch Somebody’s Hand” and “Remember Me” for Miss Ross. They were songwriting royalty. A lovely couple. Nick passed away just a few years ago.
The woman is Valerie Simpson and so he is Nick Ashford! The best writers of the 70/80’s. He has passed away many years, she is still around, was on a Jazz cruise in 2017 where she was in the lineup. Was great seeing this great legend! She owns a club here in Harlem/NY the Sugar Bar.
I'm one of the many who suggested this song. When homeless Nick Ashford went to a church mission for a meal, and heard Valerie Simpson singing gospel, the universe forged a connection that resulted in one of the greatest R&B duos ever. They were also great songwriters, creating hits for Aretha, Ray Charles, Diana Ross and many others.
Nick Ashford/Valerie Simpson, super talented duo. They could do it all. Not only did they write their own songs, but they wrote and produced for other artist. Diana Ross, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, 5th Dimension, Ray Charles, and of course Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. And the list goes on. Nick and Val worked at Motown back in the 60s writing and producing. We miss them, they definitely left their mark on popular music. RIP Nick.
Suggest Nick Ashford & Valerie Simpson as singers - "Is It Still Good To Ya" showcases Nick's falsetto & "Send It" are both ballads with their magical harmonies. "Found a Cure" is upbeat & dance at the disco. "Street Corner" has the beat and I love the bass. Thanks for the reaction. 💜 Ashford & Simpson as songwriters are an essential part of music education & music history.
I believe both of you are born after the 80s. Appreciate you enjoyed a 80s CLASSIC . The late Nick Ashford would have approved and give ya LOTS of Thumbs UP
Shot in Central Park, in 1984, this is pretty much what life was like, in Central Park, in 1984 There best performing single, reaching #12 in October of 1984. It was their only Gold record and only song to reach the Top 20 Nick Ashford passed away in 2011, at 70 years old
Such a great husband and wife team - Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson! This was their biggest hit as a duo, but as composers, they wrote a bunch of hit songs for other artists. They wrote, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough and I’m Every Woman among other classic songs. RIP Nick
Solid is a true testament and tribute to their love! ♥ They met at Harlem's White Rock Baptist Church in 1964. They got married in 1974. Yes, Ashford & Simpson's love and bond...."Sold" as a rock indeed!
They started as house writers for Motown in the 60s. Released a lot of their own amazing material in the 70s and finally got wider recognition in the 80s with this song. One of the great songwriting teams of all time.

In 1985, I was a sophomore in high school and one of my classes flew to Greece for a week. On the flight over I must have listened to this song on the inflight radio station countless times. The song had just been released the year prior (1984) and was still getting a lot of play on the radio. I loved it then and I still love it now.

Great song and reaction! For a jam give their "It Seems To Hang On" a try. Another Duo you would also enjoy would be Peaches & Herb. Start with their 1978 hit "Shake Your Groove Thing" for some definite chair dancing and then their 1978 hit "Reunited" for that romantic chill. Their 1980 hit "I Pledge My Love" is also a definite Romantic Chill vibe. There, another new duo for you. I have to throw in two other songs. One by Cherrelle & Alexander O'Neal. It's called "Saturday Love" and the other is "Don't Look Any Further" by Dennis Edwards & Siedah Garret. You both would enjoy these two also. "With You I'm Born Again" by Billy Preston & Syreeta also. How could I forget to add this Beautiful love song. It's another must.
This couple are more than just singers. They wrote and produced some of the greatest songs for some of the greatest stars in the world. Amazing people who gave me the sound track to my life. For ever thankful to them x

Nicholas Ashford and Valerie Simpson have sooo many hits as writers and performers! They finally decided to record their own songs and were very successful.
Yes Ashford & Simpson is a husband/wife duo that their biggest heyday was the late 70’s and early 80’s although they had many songs “Solid” is their biggest hit and their signature song, growing up as a kid this song was all over the radio and it’s a great song too, I’m with you Jay, my favorite part was on the chorus when they say “h-h-h-h-hot!” 😂
@@ghostlee6434Respectfully bro, that’s a damn lie. Once you’ve been in Rob Squad for awhile, you’d know Jay is VERY honest compared to other reactors. He & Amber focus on positives, but there’s a ton of songs, artists, & styles Jay can’t stand. Amber lightens the mood when he gets pissy.
There is another song Ashford and Simpson sang. It's rare footage from 1978 released in honor of Nick Ashford when he passed away. The song is "Is It Still Good To Ya". They sang it so beautifully! It's a slow love song but you guys will love it. And yes, Jay, you get to hear Nick Ashford's falsetto.
Married until Ashford's death at age 70 in 2011, this couple were very successful songwriters as well as performers. They wrote hits for many stars before and after joining Motown. Among their Motown hits were 4 of the great Marvin Gaye-Tammi Terrell hits, including Ain't No Mountain High Enough and You're All I Need To Get By, and I'm Gonna Make You Love Me for the Supremes and Temptations together.
This song was my intro to Ashford & Simpson as a young teenager. Big hit on the radio in 1984. As I've aged I've learned of the absolute impact this duo had on r&b/soul music. Not only through their performances but as prolific songwriters for other artists. My favorite of theirs "It Seems to Hang On" from their 1978 LP Is It Still Good to Ya.
This was their most successful song, but my favorite of theirs was "Is it Still Good to Ya" They use to write music at Motown for many of their stars and especially for Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.
Yes! 😍 Not only were these two magnificent, legendary songwriters, they literally glowed on stage with love for each other and their Mutual love of music. Incredibly spiritual couple. You'd probably resonate with, "Let Love Use Me", and "Send It." Those two songs are really in line with the sentiment of your Channel - love and sharing it. 👍💕
Finally, Finally. You are giving us the duo I fondly called Ash and Sim way back when. What an endearing Love story they had. You chose one of my very favorites. Thank you for their love songs and beautiful groove. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
I always loved Ashford and Simpson for their writing skills and their singing skills. Their marriage stood the test of time. Nick Ashford. Valerie Simpson. I saw them in concert. I was surprised at how entertaining they were!
Awesome, now you need to do another Huge husband and wife 70's act: Peaches And Herb. Their 2 biggest hits were "Shake Your Groove Thing" and "Reunited" (4 weeks at #1!).
They've been artists since the '60s they wrote songs for many Motown artists. Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson, husband and wife duo, have had their own hits since the '70s, please check out: "It Seems To Hang On" by them.
Finally! An Ashford and Simpso n reaction!❤ i believe it's the first reaction to them that I've seen on RUclips. 🤔 Dig deep...they got real LOVE hits. 'It Don't Cost You Nothin', 'So So Satisfied'...(a definite baby maker)... 'Send It', 'By Way of Love's Express', 'Gonna Let Love Use Me', 'Is It Still Good To You', 'On Any Street Corner', and definite disco BANGER, 'Found a Cure' Live 1979 video. They will show real chemistry between them, they dance real disco moves and sing their booties off! Y'all will LOVE it! sorry so long...I got excited 😅
Ashford and Simpson were BEAST MODE as songwriters DECADES before they became actual recording artists. They have a long list of hits that they have written for multiple hit artists.
Super hit songwriters, notably for Motown, who also had a great recording career of their own! Try one of my favorites "It Seems To Hang On"! You'll love it!
They wrote dozens of big hits.Their music is a good intro into Tammi Terrell who was great .She only lived to 25.She sang duets with Marvin Gaye.”Ain’t no mountain high enough “ “Nothing like the real thing” and “ You’re all I need to get by”.
Another Duo you would enjoy would be Yarbrough & Peoples that most forget about. Three wonderful songs by them to hear would be "Don't Stop The Music" (1980), "Don't Waste Your Time" (1984) and "Heartbeats" (1982). They were married in the middle of their music career and are still married. "Don't Waste Your Time" is my personal favorite and then "Heartbeats". Both songs are Gems to hear. Another Gem of a song that I feel you both would enjoy is "Who Do You Love" by Bernard Wright. Maria Adler does vocals with him. They sound great together and the back and forth between the two match so well. Not considered an official duo song but to me they sound great together and like I stated earlier a wonderful musical gem for the ears.
This was always our make-up song after my boyfriend and I would go through a relationship problem or a short break-up. It always brings a smile to my face! 😊
B.T. EXPRESS - Do It (Till You're Satisfied) 1970s SOUL / FUNK / R&B an amazing classic JAMM! with lots of Groovy vocals and musical arrangements from Cool Horns to other super creative instruments, the entire song gets you moving 🎸
Wow, my cousin Wade was in that band and they used to practice in my Aunts basement before they made it big. My cousin left the band before they became famous. I was too young so I don't remember them but I grew up knowing the song and the story.
Two of the best songwriters of any generation. Together so many years, creating great music so many years, living a wonderful/endearing marriage so many years! We were lucky to experience their musical talents and their joyous union! ❤ Nicholas Ashford, Valerie Simpson
Thank You. Thank You for reacting to this great song from this great duo. This is absolutely one of my favorite songs from the 80s and from when I was in high school. Like others have mentioned they have written some great songs for other artists... great songwriters. I love how much love they have for each other too. They don't write R&B like this anymore. I miss these times. This is a song that still today I can set it on repeat and enjoy every play I get out of it until it is time for me to play the next song. Love it! ♡RIP Nick♡
This song and Jermaine Jackson"s "Do What You Do" was in rotation allllllll the time when VH1 started. VH1 was a music tv channel, then sister to MTV, which targeted a different audience. Jermaine Jackson is another Jackson that went solo.

It was so excited that you reacted to this song. It's such a happy memory of my childhood. Their songs that they wrote throughout the decades have been such a moment builder in people's lives. This was one of those you had to crank up either in the car or in the shower. It just made you feel so good. The only thing is I wish you had listened all the way to the end for that last As a Rock at the very end of the video. I am positive you guys will be cranking this up around your house from now on. I can see how HaHaHaHahappy it made you guys.
You guys should definitely do more Patrice Rushen. She's [literally] a musical genius, just like Prince was. She plays multiple instruments, and has produced/composed many, many memorable songs for both herself and various artists in all kinds of genres. She's a BEAST!!!

You'd probably resonate with, "Let Love Use Me", and "Send It." Those two songs are really in line with the sentiment of your Channel - love and sharing it. 👍💕
Their love was solid as a rock, why don't they make music like this anymore...
Billy Ocean with long hair and a perm. YES!!!
Finally, Finally. You are giving us the duo I fondly called Ash and Sim way back when. What an endearing Love story they had. You chose one of my very favorites. Thank you for their love songs and beautiful groove. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
Blast from the past!!! I forgot about this song! Thank you!❤
Ashford&Simpson wrote some great song!! “Ain’t no Mountain High Enough” is an all time favorite❤❤❤❤❤
I always loved Ashford and Simpson for their writing skills and their singing skills. Their marriage stood the test of time. Nick Ashford. Valerie Simpson. I saw them in concert. I was surprised at how entertaining they were!
Awesome, now you need to do another Huge husband and wife 70's act:
Peaches And Herb.
The 80s never fail. I loved hearing them, thank you so much! Their sound is pure.
this song is so original the intro is acapella and they go straight to the chorus... when the band kicks in❤ what a brilliant move!
One of the greatest songwriting teams in the history of American pop music.
Such an awesome banger, loved seeing your surprise reaction!!!!
Among the best in the world , singing, composition, lyrics , arrangements ,interpretation... geniuses
They were phenomenal together, iconic. So many hits. RIP Nick.
I love them still after all these years .
They wrote dozens of big hits.Their music is a good intro into Tammi Terrell who was great .She only lived to 25.She sang duets with Marvin Gaye.”Ain’t no mountain high enough “ “Nothing like the real thing” and “ You’re all I need to get by”.
Oh my gosh, I remember this song!! Never saw a video , though! ❤❤❤❤
That was fun to watch you two enjoy something that has been one of my jams for almost 40 years. Keep it up
This song was SOO HUGE!!! Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson wrote for many artists since the 60's, but they had great success in the 80's.
Danced many, MANY times to this song way back when!!!!!
This was always our make-up song after my boyfriend and I would go through a relationship problem or a short break-up. It always brings a smile to my face! 😊
They are Legendary, so many hits over the years, and they wrote I'm every woman for the iconic Chaka Khan, great choice.
Awesome cool song, we use to dance to this, memories high School 🕺💃👍😎👏🎶

😮😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Such a lovely positively rocking tune!
Finally! Ashford and Simpson...yes!
Watching g your eyes pop right open when 😮Nick first came in With It was no time to play!! This is exactly why this song is iconic!
Hi, you two! It's Andrew Erroch fae Paisley in Scotland here. I don’t know much about this duo, to be honest. I only know this song, which was a big hit in the UK, getting to No.3 in the Official Singles Chart. No other of theirs came close. Their song 'Stuff Like That' got to No.34, but I don’t remember it at all, even though it included Quincy Jones and Chaka Khan... So, I'm going to check that out right now! Æx 🙏
Can't get music like this anymore.. this was my era of Music, nothing today compares to what we had.
"It Seems to Hang On" is another song you should check out 🥠
Ahhhh, love it. This song was huge the year it came out, reminds me of good times from my childhood. One of the best duets of the 80s!
